People on my slack are talking about this superstition where you say rabbit rabbit rabbit on the first of the month

apparently its British? Or are they just insane?

    Not from my experience

The traditional first month activity is to say "Pinch, punch, first of the month, no returns forever"

The traditional response is "Pinch and a kick for being so quick, no returns forever"

Pinches, punches and kicks varied in strength depending on whether adults were watching

most of what we're listening to is a little more modern, some recos if you're looking for new tunes

Earth - Full Upon Her Burning Lips: instrumental psychedelic doom, this would be the perfect soundtrack to a western. Side note, their album Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull inspired one of my tattoos.

Kikagaku Moyo - House in the Tall Grass: Psych rock from Japan. These guys are master of it, mixing American hard rock, funk, and folk with eastern styles as well. Really can't go wrong with any of their albums but this is the one I go back to the most. Bonus points for seeing these guys with @Casual Eddy and @Shazkar Shadowstorm on a rooftop in Brooklyn in what was a favorite show from last year.

Oh Sees - Smote Reverser: psych rock for the apocalypse, Oh Sees are masters of the quiet-loud dynamic and and can pull off some pretty gnarly guitar freakouts.

idk how to make this not sound callus but this whole thing has been a boon for my social life. more and more of my friends are now getting their primary social energies through texting, voice chat etc. that’s how i exist in general, but my friends not being at bars and parks and etc means they have more time to spend with me. that, plus my job is unchanged so i have normal divisions of time and things aren’t blending together- the whole situation is suited to my circumstances.

of course, that job i go to forty hours a week exposes me to sick people and is insanely stressful and abusive and i get paid half or a third or a quarter of what my friends do, and many of them admit to an extremely low workload right now- so there are trade offs

they were also my fav band the other year

i miss just, lying on my bed and listening to music with my eyes closed)

Yeah, I'm normally pretty cool with being relatively isolated, but, like

In the Before Times I could actually go see a friend if I wanted to? I could go to the cinema or pub? It makes a big difference psychologically!

i haven’t had my friends try and invalidate my experience, but there is a certain amount of alienation that comes with being an extreme minority. not only do all my friends discuss the strangeness and undesirability of the situation like it’s a given- it’s infused small talk, too. all my customers are like crazy times, huh, can’t wait till this is over, what a bizarre time to be alive! It feels like this large, shared cultural phenomenon- like Americans remembering the Cold War and hiding under desks. Except I am not experiencing it so I just have this big historical commonality going over my head. It’s intrinsically weird for me, even when people aren’t being unkind. Also because I am performing mild emotional labor affirming sympathy and consideration for my friends when they are upset (even though a certain read of what they’re experiencing could be ‘it sucks, I just have to spend time with my internet friends like you’. Yeah sorry man, that sounds hard..)

A month or two ago, Ben Prunty, the composer of the FTL and Into the Breach soundtracks, made some of his stuff free for a few days to give people some more music to listen to during the pandemic. So, been listening to these two albums a bit:

Playing with Matt/Pony over the last ten years, but particularly the last four or five, has really helped me get over that, because pace is one of his strengths as a GM. When the point of a scene is resolved, he yells CUT like a movie director and we move on, unless a player has one more thing they want to say or clarify or insert a cool final line or whatever. Borrowing that technique, and setting targets for myself ("tonight I want the players to explore the space station, discover the diplomat's treachery and end on the cliffhanger of the enemy ships decloaking") has really transformed my narratives. They've tightened up like they've hit the gym.

    @Jacobkosh

This is an interesting post to read. I know Matt got a lot of his RPG experience from City of Heroes....since we used to do stuff there together back in the day.

The reason I bring this up, is because in a lot of the RP things I've done with the CoH community, there's one thing they all universally do that I wasn't used to.

Once RP has progressed to a point where things are mostly resolved, someone (usually whoever initiated the RP or who had a significant role in it) will literally say "End Scene", and people move on to something new.

It was jarring at first because I wasn't used to it, but I've definitely grown to love it.

@Arch yeah! That really thre me the first time it happened, too! But getting used to it has definitely opened some doors.

Which neatly segues into what I came to post, which is that my actress (who I met in CoH) and I have graduated to trading pictures and it turns out that she is a beautiful goth queen and I am the most absurdly lucky dude on the planet.

Remove coffee from under direct light, the refractivity is unattractive
    Orange cloth isn’t folded attractively
Fork tines should be facing down or otherwise away from the camera to lessen aggressiveness
Clothing wasn’t folded with aesthetic contrast in mind
