Don't get me wrong. More 40K is always welcome. But this isn't real Gladius!

I still have my oXbox copy, but no access to my oXbox.

Still have my oXbox copy in my oXbox hooked up to a TV in front of my treadmill. It is the only way I can stay on a treadmill for more than five minutes.

Why would anybody accept a mission and take a vehicle that only seats two people?

Because I keep forgetting? I thought that was pretty clear. It's also the best damn vehicle I have... super maneuverable, fast as hell, takes off in a hurry from a standstill, and has 6 cargo slots. And it's super rare I need a 3rd seat.

I don't know about SoD2, but the full-cab pick-up in SoD1 was the optimal vehicle. No speed, per se, but durable and can seat six. It would just seem to me that speed and maneuverability would be more important for a solo jaunt. If you take somebody with you, why not take a bigger vehicle instead?

  • Options
Pixelated PixiePixelated Pixie They/Them Registered User regular
The pickup is sluggish af and offers no advantage over the jeep except the extra passenger space... which I've needed exactly twice (and didn't REALLY need then anyway), versus needing "get up and go" a whole lot. With the spawn rates in this game, I very often find myself having to jump into the vehicle and GO NOW before it can get overwhelmed by zombies tearing it apart.

There are other cars that get up and go even better but they don't have 6 cargo slots, so the jeep remains my favorite.

This is how I like to play, and ... I haven't had anyone die yet either, so it works for me.

(and to be fair, I haven't tested every vehicle. And this map I got seems extraordinarily light on vehicles, so the pickings are slim... so far I've found several jeeps, tons of pickups, one sports car, a luxury car, and a delivery van that I didn't bother with)

I took a flyer on Mechanicus and just through the tutorial it's been fun. I forgot how much everyone talks about random shit in the 40K universe. For, like, ever. They would put Churchill to shame.

And my starter units have less stuff than the tutorial units, which stinks.

    (Previous post)

Just a small update today, and early, as it is D&D night for me and I have players to kill a game to run.

We start up with Karoz getting ready to go see about clearing out that container fort to make a new base. She loads up her favorite jeep with gas and ... oh. A radio distress call. For Pixie. Seems one of our ally groups (the Headstompers) are in some sort of emergency and need help now. Like, there's a 12 minute timer on this. Okay, fine. Karoz sighs and hands the jeep keys to Pixie.

Pixie grabs Rubycat and down the road they go. Right over a fucking bloater. Goddammit. I swear we missed it, but we got gassed anyway.

Now sick and fatigued, they continue on, arriving at the Headstompers' base just in time to save them from a bandit raid. Yay, it wasn't a juggernaut or something. Bandits we can handle with ease. And we do. The Headstompers are all alive and grateful, so we return home, stopping along the way to loot a supply stash for food and materials. We also passed a nice pickup truck along the road, which we've been watching for since we acquired an upgrade kit for one. In a fair world, Rubycat could have jumped out of the jeep and grabbed the truck and we could have convoyed home. In video game land, no such luck. So we go home, drop all our loot and -- since we were bloater'd -- decide to send someone else out to go get that truck. We choose Jazz. Nice easy first job for her. And we send Madican with her.

They get to the truck just fine and decide to have a look around the shop where it was sitting. Madican takes a moment to be a condescending twit but Jazz is having none of that and shoves him out of the way to search the area. They get more supplies, which they stash in a nearby outpost of ours, and while there they decide to load up some of the trade goods we've been stockpiling* and go sell it to the Headstompers. Because who could turn down this shit?

*Video game trickery: from any outpost, anywhere on the map, we can access our base storage.

So, stuff traded, a few hordes run over along the way, the truck returned to base and upgraded by Rubycat and now it's a pretty badass truck (that I forgot to get a pic of).

Maybe now Karoz can go -- oh right. Mal is determined to go find another drug stash. Just look at that trustworthy face. So fine, Mal (and Madican, who isn't thrilled about it) head off to the far side of the map (of course) to find the stash... in a fucking barn? Seriously?

Fortunately, this time things go smoother than the last, and the drugs are quickly found. The stash is smaller than Mal hoped.

    Which makes Iolo happy.

Mal sums up her opinion of Iolo's concerns and they return to base, where Iolo confronts Mal and Mal says what she thinks.

Meanwhile, Karoz is getting antsy. And has run out of Snickers bars. Definitely going to have to send her on the next mission.

For now, though, that's all we got. Not a very exciting session.

You know how a particularly unpleasant man can get shot in the town square? Broad daylight, in full view of his wife, his mistress, the sherrif, priest, mayor, six urchins, their minder, the paperboy and a doctor from the next county over, only nobody saw a thing?

Isy is the other way that story goes.

I want to take a moment and blame this thread for getting me to answer the question “I have a spare few hours, what do I play?” with “Better check out Fallout 76 again, even if I resent that it apparently has NPC’s now.”

Also, looks like the System Shock remaster has a demo out.

Well, D&D ended early tonight, so I played some more State of Decay 2, so here's yer brief update. Sorry it's so close to the last one.

    (Previous post)

We started off with Karoz and Rubycat setting out to destroy a plague heart. They load up with fuckloads of weapons, ammo, and explosives and head over ready for war. And... well... I dunno if that was just an anemic plague heart or what but it went down easily. Karoz is actually disappointed. But she ate a bag of Doritos she found on the floor, so she was happy about that. Meanwhile, Rubycat made contact with some potential new trade partners, so the two of them zipped over and checked that out. They didn't really have anything interesting to offer, though. To prevent the trip from being a complete waste of time, they cleared out the police station a block down the road and turned it into another outpost, one that generates a steady ammo supply for us. Can't complain about that.

And just as they finish that up, they get a radio call from another new enclave near the police station. These folks want help taking out a Plague Heart. Naturally, Karoz jumps right on that opportunity. We drive over, pick up a couple helping hands, and all four of us (in our badass modified pickup*) go to the storage facility where the Plague Heart is. This one is more of a challenge, with several hordes and screamers in the vicinity that complicate things. But four people can handle a lot of shit, so the Plague Heart goes down (and Karoz gets credit for killing it with an assault weapon, which is important for a bounty we're working on). Rubycat gets a case of blood plague in the course of the fight but this time we brought cures with us (thanks, Dirk!), so that's taken care of. But now, they need rest, so it's back to base... where Rubycat starts complaining about the accommodations. Again.

*Screenie of truck is from later mission

Pixie gets a call from one of our allies that they want to help with the Plague Heart situation, but they want some help from us first. We agree to help them out but not before Karoz has a hissy fit about it. Of course, just about this time, Mal gets the bright idea that we should go find T-Dog's house. Sure, Mal, we'll come back to that idea. Later. First let's go and -- well shit where did that come from?? Open the front door of base and there was a juggernaut just fucking standing there, waiting, silently. Eep!

We kill the jugg in pretty short order and off we go. We help our allies move to a new base (which involves clearing out several infestations) and they promise help with Plague Hearts.

And now it's time to move. We need a bigger base. So Pixie and Mal go out to the container fort that Karoz had scouted out. They clear the place out and we all move in. Holy shit, this place is ginormous. It has storage for days (it's literally a fort made out of storage containers), a barracks with 8 beds, and enough room to build tons of facilities. We get to work and soon we have a kitchen, an infirmary, a garden, a generator, water collection system, a watch tower, and ... a lounge. With an xbox. Installed and maintained by Madican. This place is amazing.

Next we send Mal and Madican out to scout out more of the area and see what kind of supplies we can get around here. And Madican has an interesting idea...

They don't get far before a member of the Red Talons radios for help with looting a military installation, so they go do that... and in the process load up with guns and ammo and some C-4. With the truck loaded, they return home... and start fighting over the xbox, while Pixie considers our next move. There's a nearby power station and a water facility, and taking over either of those could be super useful to our base. But we also could use a stronger food supply, especially with Karoz to feed. And of course... there's still 8 more Plague Hearts out there...

    ---

    Kill counts!

    Karoz - 613
    Pixie - 542
