Don't you already have all the DLC?

No idea. Not the point. The remaster is apparently really good.

Played some more D:OS2 and I'm liking it a lot, I see why it's highly rated. It's basically if Pathfinder didn't have the slavish adherence to the tabletop rulebook to the point where it bordered into disrespecting the player's time and instead focused on the fun parts of CRPG gameplay. Being able to use a bed roll anywhere is great just by itself.

Played a bit of the starter island for a little while in classic difficulty with the standard 4-man party stuff for a while, and once I got the hang of the game I brought it down one notch to explorer and created a new game with Fane as Lone Wolf skeleton and it has been a lot of fun - challenging at times with just one character but not overbearing. Scoundrel+Warfare is kind of insanely synergistic, so much mobility you can just blitz around the field murderstabbing from target to target.

My only real issue is how the AI automagically always knows Fane is undead for the purposes of targeting him with offensive healing spells when the whole point of his schtick is that they aren't supposed to know he's undead. But at the same time they also still freely use poison on him even though it heals him.
Does anyone honestly actually want all the convoluted character sheet porn in games like Pathfinder in 2020? Its really bad in particular in that one.

I played Baldur's Gate and liked it, I love CRPGs but I would be lying if I said I understood how the actual mechanics work most of the time.

Divinity is really easy to get your head around which is why I think its turned out to be the crazy popular one out of the CRPG renaisance awhile back.

Also Wasteland 2. Fucking love that one.

You can still bring another companion and benefit from Lone Wolf, if you want. Some of the characters have pretty cool stories that are worth checking out. Also, playing solo and rogue greatly reduces the odds of electrocuting a blood pool your melee unit was standing in or detonating an entire section of the map after missing some spell interaction, and if you're not experiencing that regularly, are you really even playing Divinity?

Everyone definitely benefits from having one or more mobility skills, though. If you use any ranged attacks, two points in Huntsman is enough to get Tactical Retreat, which is a teleport that also hastes you for one turn, so you get the 1 AP you spent back the following turn and have extra movement after teleporting.

    Ok @Talus9952 VS @an_alt
What a rocky start to this concrete challenge.
Both Talus and An_Alt started off with scissors on the brain.
After a lot of questionable scissoring image searches that also for some reason kept showing me c-section images, I had their followup answers.
They both sent the same thing again; paper. In fact they both said Papers Please. I think maybe like the great mentalist Lior Suchard, I've begun subtlely influence my competitors answers.
So now I'm gonna have to request a third response. So we may not have a stone cold winner for this battle just yet.
Like being stuck being a hard place, and something else that's really dense and heavy.

But then you lose the MIND games.
Now they both know they picked the same thing twice in a row...what are they gonna pick next?
I mean An_alt is gonna pick rock of course, but Talus9952 will go scissors. Just as I planned. But don't tell them that. BWAHHHH
I should probably state that any players are free to pick whatever they would like to. In fact you should not be worried about what I think you're gonna pick, but what your opponent thinks you're gonna pick....

I decided I'm done with Dragon Age: Origins. I finished all campaigns but the last one, Golems of Amgarrak. I feel that one is just stupid, and a sad ending to my time with Dragon Age 1. I enjoyed the main campaign as well as the Awakenings DLC. Other than that, Dragon Age Origins was pretty good, and holds up well. I also finished Strider last weekend, and Battle Chef Brigade a couple days ago. Strider was an alright game, nothing special about it. Battle Chef Brigade was pretty damn good though. Short but very good game. I haven't tried the daily cook offs yet, or any other mode other than the single player story content. It just feels so well done. I'll probably play a bunch of other games before tackling my next CRPG.

Started a new State of Decay 2 game. Something something pink SMG with hearts

Anyway, since there's a character editor for it that lets me rename characters and change their nicknames... anyone wanna sign on to be a survivor as this progresses? I can't guarantee gender or skills or anything so you could end up being anyone!

PM me if interested... I'll throw people in as I recruit them in game in the order I get messages.

Okay so we start off with me, Mal, and Karoz.

Mal is a lichenologist and former paintballer, so we have high hopes here... and for the delightful garden we look forward to having.

Karoz is a former security guard who eats too much but has proven to be pretty handy with a baseball bat, so far killing 37 zombies before we've even really settled in to our new home. A keeper!

And Pixie is just someone with good taste in colors, but also possessing a metric shitload of hit points (high pain tolerance), so that's useful.

The remaster is apparently really good.

Consoles are barely hitting 30fps on a port of a ten year old game. That is wild.

Cat Quest 2 was fun. On the one hand now there are dogs in it so twice as many puns become available. On the other hand the travel power isn't flight this time so you don't get to see your character flapping its arms to stay aloft.

    Overall recommend.

Given what they've changed in terms of eyecandy, it doesn't really count as a "port of a ten year old game" though, I don't think. (edit: that said, they seem to be doing quite a bit better than barely hitting 30?)

I finally acquired a Nintendo Switch yesterday (the rather spiffy and sought-after Animal Crossing edition). Trawling through its game selection, especially downloadable-only indies, I have found myself, multiple times already, weighing up "do I get this on Steam or Switch?".

Let's be honest, sometimes that answer is going to be "both". Not for the first time, I long for the day when we have easy cross-platform save sharing.

I mean, I've already picked up 2064: Read Only Memories and Phantom Doctrine for it. This is probably not going to end well. (In my defense, they were on Steam-esque sales of 86% and 90% off respectively. Combined they cost about as much as a sandwich... this really is not going to end well...)

Their regular pricing is typically horrendous, absolutely. The Switch tax is real (Edit: jinx!). But they can have colossal discounts too. I'm using DekuDeals to track stuff on a wishlist and get notifications when they go on sale.

I'm keeping an eye out. Hollow Knight I'm not sure about (I know it's quality, it just sounds a bit not my kind of game) but I've got it on Steam - of course - so I can try it out there and see. BotW is one of those things I'm definitely looking out for a used cart - big Ninty first-party games like that never get actually cheap, but getting one for sane money isn't impossible. (ShopTo had a stomach-able price for Mario Kart digital, so that'll be tiding me over too.)

Funnily enough, Amazon UK keeps selling out of the big games on carts. It was postulated in the Switch thread that they're being camped by bots. Entirely possible.

Hollow KNight on steam was awful for me, I would die and rage quite. But on the Switch it is a completely different game for me. I've almost completed it. The ability to just put the switch down and walk away is great and playing it anywhere is super helpful.

I keep hitting the wall that is the Watcher Knights, and by the time I come back to the game I've forgotten where everything is and just start over again. Which is fine, because I love the game, but I understand I'm totally being Sisyphus.

Its weird how older games didnt have current steam features when I played them.

For instance Ive beated both Half-life 2 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent but up until today didnt have achievements for either. The time recorded for HL2 is wrong* and up until I booted it last month steam was insisting that I hadn't played Amnesia at all despite recording 7 hours.

Also I was about to throw a fit last night for lack of controller support for one of Valve's "big" games but I found the option this morning :rotate:

*I just relised its probably from idling cards, since I had already beaten the game back when I got the orange box.
