Keep in mind the following
- legacy of the void does not compete just against new normal void form but also the other two talents on that row
- ignoring that, if with the legacy talent you can stay in void form for at least the same duration as in the cooldown version, it's a dps gain because of the 5%, and got that same reason may be a dps gain even if you stay in it slightly less. And the more you can stay in it beyond the regular length the more of a gain. That ability to stay in will also vary fight to fight (if you have to move you can't maintain) and go up a the expansion progresses and you get more haste.
If we really want to get down to it though the real problem with Legacy of the Void is that is competes with Devouring Plague for your resource. Devouring plague is currently is tuned to like 30-40% of one's damage from what I saw peeking in at some raid encounters today. It's a significant part.
If you can't cast your best spell during your cooldown and all you get in return is... 5% bonus damage + some amount of extra time on your cooldown... that's a rough trade. You might think that Void Bolt would extend devouring plague but it does not. You lose out on plague during LotV almost entirely.
It's beta early beta though and the changes just came out. Things will be broken. A semblance of parity is yet to be achieved.
I mean, the new top row of shadow talents will be situation based; legacy will be good on fights where a longer burst/cooldown window is desirable, and the bonus crit one will be used when it isn't (i.e. dungeons)
still don't really see a great usage case for surrender, but oh well
Surrender seems better than ever. If there's any add in a boss fight that will die in under 25 seconds you just cast it while having them targeted. You can get up to twice as many void forms and half of them let you cast all spells while moving.
Yeah, I need to check it out, but I think the fun thing with S2M will be some sort of execute/SWD build. With the boosted insanity generation you can just keep on throwing Devouring Plagues on all the targets.
Something I’m curious with the new bottom-row talent (the decaying crit buff) is it it’ll give your Void Eruption the full 30% crit when you cast it. That could be a interesting crit-based build with Spirits.

Huh, if you're running War Mode Void Shield just completely removes Disc from the solo priest competition.
Not that Shadow's really competitive with the other classes for soloing even with that, but it's a lot better than I expected it to feel.
Guess I can't complain too much that I can't pull a dozen mobs at once without worry or solo Suggested Players 5 quests, even if most classes can.

I’m actually kind of digging the new shadow priest. I don’t know if I will make yet another alt but might need to try it at some point

Fucking Rextroy still figured out how to break corruptions. This time simply because void ritual stays on you when you remove the gear. So he just got a proc and swapped out the corruptions. Whoops, 1 million damage chaos bolts.

Phial starting to seem pretty strong. Maybe Blizzard can actually make this unique choice balance thing work at least a little? That would be impressive.

I don't think it working on necrotic and grievous is new information. I think people are just finally realising how specious the door of shadows hype reasoning was, now that they've seen enough actual dungeons to know that it won't live up to the hype.
I quit BfA before corruptions came out (8.2 I think? Maybe 8.1). What really killed it for me was the resetting of azerite armor. You would grind your ass off in mythics and raid to get the perfect Azerite traits and then only have a few weeks/1 month before the next patch would come out and literally reset your progress, forcing you to grind the exact same traits again (and in the case of heroics, literally the exact same item; just higher ilvl).
Are they addressing this in Shadowlands? It just completely killed my satisfaction in the game and made it feel like I was never making any progress at all.

SL doesn't have Azerite armor, the closest equivalent is a set of 3 NPCs you level up on your covenant that come with that sort of trait and stay leveled up.

Also they sort of fixed azerite by not needing to get neck levels for it anymore, though you still would replace pieces in a new tier and possibly get worse traits.

I mean, there are also tons and tons of raid encounters where an on-demand teleport would be killer, especially on low-mobility classes
The removal of the instant cast soulbind hurts it a lot, though
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat

Honestly all of them have a place. People are not even really commenting on the tricks that may be possible with necro shield and the cc immunity soulbind trait for it. I can imagine there are some encounters where ignoring a cc will be huge.

Didn't that just get nerfed?

It did but it still exists. If anything might be a bit better as damage can’t stop the immunity now. Well unless it kills you.
Really playing the beta I feel they learned nothing from people's complaints about BFA
I made a priest and got harassed if I was going to be holy and what realm would I be playing on which is basically why I hid all my healers when BFA went live and healers became rare
Is the Nightfae gardening zone thing in the beta yet? Right now for my Mistweaver Monk, I am strongly considering Nigthfae as my covenant, based on how fun and powerful Faeline Stomp looks. Plus having a persistent fox form will help make an already very mobile class even more mobile.
But so far I haven't seen any coverage of their weekly zone even, the garden thing. Taliesin did a pretty good summary of the Venthyr one, and Preach did a pretty good summary of the Kyrian battle arena one, but I haven't seen coverage for the Nightfae one yet. (Or Necrolord Abomination Workshop either).

Yes it's Blizzard's fault your friends and guildmates are harasser geese.

Apparently the prepatch ptr is going up soon? Seemed out of nowhere but when you think about it, kind of has to by now. If they test it a month then it goes live mid September which gives a few months before a novemberish launch.
Also does suspiciously coincide with the final corruption resist of the cloak being September 8th, which people thought would be right before prepatch.

It does seem fast compared to when Beta started, but this was also the most polished Alpha we've had in terms of how much work they put in.

They definitely took a long time to call it a beta. I feel like bfa was in beta when the questing zones weren’t even done yet.
I mean at this point all the content seems to be in the game. Both leveling and endgame. Minus a few things here and there. It is pretty much 3 months of making sure it all works, numbers tuning and getting around to implementing the actual rogue changes announced with alpha...
Edit : spoke too soon. The balancing is already happening. Some solid fixes for arcane and mage in general. Finally replaced totem mastery so rip. Elemental had the aoe vs st issue resolved. Rogues finally... don’t have the weapon damage version of shiv. Good start for them I guess.

They also got rid of that terrible "give resources to other players" Priest Night Fae Covenant Ability since hey, being there just to buff the Frost DK feels bad. The replacement:
The ability is now named “Fae Guardians,” to better represent the new design, and to differentiate it from Blessing of the Seasons.
Fae Guardians (1.5 minute cooldown) – Call forth three faerie guardians to attend your targets for 20 seconds.
Wrathful Faerie: Your direct attacks against the target restore 1% Mana or 6 Insanity. Follows your Shadow Word: Pain.
Guardian Faerie: Reduces damage taken by 10%. Follows your Power Word: Shield.
Benevolent Faerie: Increases the cooldown recovery rate of a major ability by 100%. Follows your Shadow Mend / Flash Heal.
Rather than using up charges, you can now manage 3 persistent Faerie buffs. Each Faerie can only exist on 1 target at a time. When you cast Fae Guardians, the Guardian and Benevolent Faerie will be summoned immediately on yourself. You can then cast Power Word: Shield to move the Guardian Faerie to your desired target, Shadow Mend to move the Benevolent Faerie, and Shadow Word: Pain to apply the Wrathful Faerie. Note that the Wrathful Faerie only restores mana or Insanity for the Priest, not their allies.
Also does suspiciously coincide with the final corruption resist of the cloak being September 8th, which people thought would be right before prepatch.
Oh there's a cap?
Officially the unluckiest CCG player ever.

Yeah the cap was announced when the patch first came out and people sort of figured that was around when we'd get prepatch.
Open PTR is such a shitshow right now lol, brings me right back to those Wrath days.
There's lots of little changes to poke at with Enhancement, looks like that could be fun - it's not 'maelstrom healing rain ancestral guidance' levels of support like Mists, but it does have Windfury Totem back, which ... honestly, kind of makes up for it.
Windwalker Monk, though seems like it hasn't changed. Like, at all. Guess we'll see what the covenants add, here.
Kai_SanCommonly known as Klineshrike!Registered Userregular
Heals on Enhance seem bonkers strong. It LOOKS like the bonus to damage and healing stacks up to 10, even though you can only use 5 stacks for an instant cast. That means the effect is strongest if you let it max stack, then only use it at max (even though you can double cast)
I have 23k health and I was able to crit Healing Surge for 11k then 7.5k. So like 80% of my health in 1.5 seconds. Before the pvp talent that duplicates it 3 seconds later. Also, without Earth Shield (which I think becomes quite worth it to increase that much healing by 10%)
Oh and with the new SS talent, you can build to basically spam SS and get maelstrom like fucking crazy. You could just spew lightning bolts and instant heals. I remember in BFA I could tell Enh self healing would be broken and indeed, they nerfed it in PVP 3 individual times and never reverted one. I think this is worse. This healing is CHUNKY and plentiful. Only real limitation is it costs over 1/4 your mana, which is significant. Chain heal is like 30%. But chain heal is about as much healing as Surge before the chains.
If these numbers stay the same, Vesper totem procs on top of the double healing surge is going to be toasty.
I think Shaman survivability issues become significantly less if healing is this good. Depends on if burst comes back to the levels it hit in BFA with broken azerite traits, then broken essences, then corruptions. Shaman still succumb to burst.
This is a dumb question as I noped out of leveling in BFA because I was not feeling it
My brother got his mage to 120 and talked about he got the blood elf armor look? from a quest? hitting 120?
I was power leveling my priests doing time walking dungeons as I am NOT going to level in bfa as a healer with the lack of attacks and other reasons

As long as you don't use a boost to get to 120, you are eligible for the heirloom armour quests. Once you hit 120 you can go start them.

The embassy in Org or SW. You also have to have rep maxed out for that race before the quest well show up, so like for Blood Elves it would be Silvermoon rep and for Gnomes it would be Gnomeregan, etc...

Unless by play together you only mean kill each other, then that's in yea.

Shadowmeld Soulbind trait removed, no great surprise there.
On Shaman, Seismic Thunder is gone, now everything is on Fulmination. Thank God. Oh, and they got rid of Totem Mastery entirely since their new version was even worse, if such a thing is possible.
