A weird number of 5-color cards and effects in this set.
Too many IMO. I predict we're gonna run into the exact same shit that we did with Omnath: high power shit that green just plays anyway because the drawback of "specific colors" and "mana" become nonissues.

It's for the cleric commander they just released. It's like, perfect for it.

looks like I'm at a crossroads where I either build a lurrus rogue deck or I don't climb

I cannot get over how big of a bomb that god card is
I would be very surprised if Lurrus wanted a five mana card
There will be plenty of people using that with Lurrus. I wouldn't expect a tournament deck to come out of it, but they will absolutely get used together.

Not with Lurrus as a companion.

I prefer to not use Lurrus as companion anyway; you can't even have the other three copies in the main.

i mean the ultimate point is also just that firja is an intensely bad card
It's a fun thing for standard brawl but otherwise hard pass.

Ah ok, they're trying the "Cast your second spell" thing again as a tie in with foretell, which makes it easier to cast multiple spells in a given turn.
as an aside, obviously it's a bit early to be talking about strixhaven, but something that interests me about it and Battlebond is that they seem to be interested in experimenting with fantasy tropes that don't translate into a whole World. "the great gladiator arena" and "wizard school" are classic tropes that people love visiting in their fiction but if you're operating on the thought process "magic sets have to represent a WORLD" they don't fit. you can't have a world that is just a school. so it's interesting to see them start to toy with sets that zoom in closer on a world, even if it's not a world we've been to

Oh, like Ixalan! Which is just the name of one island!
With Kylem, I feel like they used two tricks to really make it work.
First, make the location where the set takes place a sort of cultural axis that the rest of the plane's civilization revolves around. The people of Kylem aren't just into sports, they're super into sports. So the stadium is technically just a place, but in actuality it's the place.
The second trick is to make the location a microcosm of the larger world. No one lives at the stadium, but everyone goes there. Every race and nation has representatives. It's the melting pot of its world.
Strixhaven will likely use the same two tricks, only instead of everyone being sports fanatics, they're hardcore academics instead.

Although that's interesting cos obvs he is not a native God, he's a planeswalker imposter
A lot of the native gods so far seem to be largely bant, which feels actually somewhat appropriate to me; more the colours of fate, order and nature
Clerics support, neat
EDIT: Oh, this is totally for Lurrus

Lurrus companion is one of the if not the top tier deck with dimir rogues
He's got a good role in either position.

Cragplate Baloth, Cunning Nightbonder, Destiny Spinner, and Thryx be all…

I could definitely see them doing a Battlebond/Stryxhaven style set about a plane that has a big, important prison.

That Infinite dont seem constructed good but it does seem "make everyone at the for fun table hate you" good.
vroom vrooooom these cats will drive right the fuck over you
I really hate that this could say "when this attacks, populate" although I understand why it doesn't.
EDIT: actually I take that back. This can copy, say, Treasure so isn't precisely populate. (Also populate doesn't target.)
Is that a reprint of this or an entirely new card?
That's a pretty nice foretell reward. Gets some time to play with adventures too.
