Is there any way to check how much longer the Mastery Pass lasts? I bought into it last week after it persisted through the Season, thinking it would be around at least until the next new expansion, but I realize now it may be on a quicker turnaround due to the frequency of interstitial releases like Amonkhet.

It will last until Zenkar is released on Arena. I don't know if they've official announced the release date but last i heard it sometime around the end of September so you have another 2 months or so. I would expect spoilers to be starting in a few weeks and the set to come out when they're done.

It'll last until the rotation don't worry, each pass is tied to a Standard set release so the Amonkhet stuff doesn't matter.

I severely doubt there will ever be a pass that is affected by Historic-only content unless it is a specifically Historic pass and running 2 season passes at once seems like a bad idea.

When it is close to ending there is a yellow "X days remaining" note on the main track page, next to the mastery orbs button, which I think shows up with ~3 weeks or so to go

    Thanks, folks.

Pretty annoying that the duration isn't just listed at all times, but I suppose they don't always know the exact expected duration, or they just want people to foolishly buy in at inopportune times.

IIRC Prerelease was scheduled to be 9/18. M21 pass should end on the 16th.

    Knight of the Ebon Legion
    Thieves Guild Enforcer
    Vampire of The Dire Moon
    Agonizing Remorse
    Heartless Act
    Orzhov Enforcer
    Call of the Death-Dweller
    Hooded Brightfang

    3x of
    Vraska, Swarm’s Eminence
    Demonic Embrace

    Lands
    4x Castle Locthwain
    18xSwamp

Edit: the idea is the you keep swinging fast and often since literally everything here trades due to deathtouch, and people don’t expect Thieves Guild enforcer when the swing with their 1/1 innkeepers. Once you get out blightfangs, the game is often over. Swing with three deathtouch guys with two blightfangs out and it’s six damage before combat damage is assessed. Call and Demonic Embrace ensure that you trade well and maintain threats even into the late game.

The one thing that really fucks this deck is Ugin. There is literally nothing you can do if Ugin hits the board.

It is delightfully evil when you see someone scry, put one on top, then cast the flash rogue to mill them, making them lose two lands of the top.

And then have them stuck on two lands until the end of the game.

    So evil.

Looks like it isn't that bad against Ugin either, what with Agonizing Remorse.
Just need to hold it for when Rampy McRampface hits seven lands.

Just had the sillliest fucking game against a lurrus life gain/enchantment deck.

By the end of it he had a 9/9 vigilance healer hawk and a 4/8 healer hawk.

But I had three hooded brightfangs

Nothing like swinging with 7 guys with 1 power each and doing 21 damage / 21 lifegain

I skipped Theros and Ikoria and recently came back. Everytime I guess how mutate might interact with some uncommon effect I'm wrong....

Lots of janky brews post bans, its cool. But I'll be in a world of hurt when rotation happens.

How long have I got before my Amass deck is gone from standard? For something I threw together based on an interesting sounding keyword it reliably takes me to Gold/Platinum any time I feel the need for some Arena and need to grind up some currency from quests.

I think the surprise value helps! I pretty much never see anyone else playing a similar deck so people don’t know what key components to deal with.

Amass is gonna leave standard during upcoming rotation, when Zendikar releases. So... September, I think.

Do you think they'll bring amass back for something like another return to innistrad? It's just such a solid flavorful mechanic.

I'm sure amass will return at some point. Its an easy, functional mechanic which noone hated and lots of people liked.

If they ever do another Krosan-focused set, would be a good fit for Squirrels (in some sense).

The Amass templating seems sufficiently open-ended in its intent, prioritizing language about an "army" rather than "zombies", such that WotC could make it about Wombats, Burble-whatzits, or Oblomancers. Maybe that would demand retroactively adjusting Amonkhet's Amass as Amass Zombies, but that's not such a huge hurdle to overcome.

Regardless, I was mostly just being a goober and suggesting something as far-fetched as a Squirrel-centric Krosan set.

Yeah the Zombie thing is what will hold Amass back from returning as-is, but I can see them working around that if the need arises.

They dont need to change anything other than the type of army created to match what they want, since the counter goes on an army you control, instead of on a [subtype] army you control.

It only gets weird with tribal affinity and even then, would still be okay.

The type of army created is defined in the rules for Amass. They could errata it to be "[TYPE] Amass", but that'd look clunky.

Amass's text has two parts. First, there's "put X +1/+1 counters on an Army you control." Then there's "If you don't control one create a 0/0 black Zombie Army creature token." So that second part could be changed on a card-by-card basis to "green Squirrel Army" or "white Human Army" or whatever and the first sentence would still apply.

They may build something that looks and behaves similarly to amass but I think itd either need to be simpler or make a bigger meta splash than Amass did to come back

@Munkus Beaver I'm messing around in the Play queue to get a handle on the deck after getting curb stomped in ranked last night.

I underestimated the mill effects of the rogues. I managed to deck 2 different players who had various draw effects active.

Not without changing the actual rules for Amass. As written in the CR, Amass always makes a black 0/0 Zombie Army token when it needs to.
701.44a: To amass N means "If you don't control an Army creature, create a 0/0 black Zombie Army creature token. Choose an Army creature you control. Put N +1/+1 counters on that creature."

That is hilarious. The only issue I have with the mill effect is against decks that run Uro, where it ends up fueling their bullshit.

But I have certainly won a lot of games off of waiting on turn 1 for my opponent to drop a scryland, and flashing in the rogue after they keep 1 top.

I tossed together a RDW deck for FNM Pauper. It's holding its own so far but I'm debating dropping the Spellgorger Weirds for a different creature since they either die right away or never make it onto the board.
