Final game Zimone stuck. She's pretty good.
Also got to Double Major a Bookworm.
Which was good, because I had to mulligan the second Wurm to the bottom of my deck.
i won my first two games and didn't look back, but the format is definitely interesting.
edit: mulligan for a counterspell in hand, that's my advice, it works every time.
Lumimancer/Lightscribe is definitely the Rogues of this year, seems like 60% of what I face is this deck and it's just a slog
That deck is so much easier to deal with than Rogues though. It's explosive, but lacking in removal and counterspells.
If it doesn't win on turn 4 it probably isn't going to win. That said, I've tried W, WG, WR, and WU versions of the deck and most of them have been able to win off of double mulligans. The decks mostly just fold to early removal, so I'm not that worried about post-rotation when we've got access to Bloodchief's Thirst, Shock, and Spikefield Hazard.
They do end up crushing durdley plays (T2 Wolfwillow T3 Binding), low/no interaction decks, and awkward draws. I've trashed a lot of Winota decks that swung on curve, left me at 3 life, and then couldn't block three 8/8s.
aggro seems to be in a rough spot now, and with that, my cue to exit standard has arrived.
also about 20 rares away from completing STX so i don't feel like it's worth it to continue drafting it...
maybe i'm done until forgotten realms is out? what a relief.

Just play during weekdays.
Everyone plays aggro then.
Saw someone on reddit wanting Tainted Remedy in Arena and damn if they weren't right. Feels good crushing them with my janky as hell all Praetor deck, but zzzzz for the nth time a day.
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
It might be a little off theme but the doge deck seems like it'd work really well in a Winota shell. All your dogs trigger her which would pull more houndmasters which gives you more dogs.
Add in some Blademasters and you've got a massive killing blow.
Didn't get any of the Planeswalkers packs during last year's Jumpstart, but this time I got Liliana's when I entered this year's event for the first time.
I'm not sure if that's a good sign or if I've used up all my luck for this Jumpstart already. :P
Well-Read Dogs: Not bad. Surprisingly OK at just having a bunch of weenies and then drawing into the right cards.
Liliana Dragons: Extremely good. Dragons has multiple cheap token cards and big reanimator payoffs, which synergize with Liliana's flash knight to draw again and the couple of reanimation spells in the deck.
Garruk Basri: Efficient threats.dek is very good, and you reload super hard with creature based draw.
Unicorn Mill: Unicorns are very good as a delay + rebuy ETB tribe and this allows mill to do its thing. Sometimes I punched through but mostly I just drew games out and then got autowins. Reanimator decks are the easiest prey since they self mill a lot... but the reanimator payoffs aren't *that* good and the removal I have is pretty solid.

I wasn't a fan of Dinos - the dinosaurs themselves just aren't great. It didn't feel like a pack that was balanced well against some of the others.
Goblins is dirty against most decks though regardless of what it's paired with. I was killing people with Predatory Goblins, while rarely ever using the Predatory cards at all.
Still early days.
But just played mill.
And double humiliated their opening two Into the Stories.
And then stuck Tergrid with Doom Foretold out.
And then stole their two Crabs and Tutelage.
And their two Fabled Passages.
Cause mill is worth it.
The Dogs half-deck was very cute, as was to be expected. I also had the option to take Cats in that exact same pick, so I was forced to choose between them. Shame, really. I would've liked to see how the Cats & Dogs deck worked out.
Also, the Minions deck left me wondering what an Azra is. Magic's version of Tieflings, maybe?
Played two games of Jumpstart and my first game of Well-Read/Enchanted was terrible. It was slow and I always seemed to draw the worst half of the deck. Having auras or creatures you can't cast sucks. Those two wins we're a slog.
Anyways...
My second attempt with Tree Hugging Pirates was amazing! It has tempo. Card draw. Ramp. Aggro. Evasive creatures. I just slaughter with that deck. Had a lot of fun.

I have learned nothing from Premier and will draft cards again.
50+ cards is the way to play
Or maybe silver player drafts are not cutthroat enough?

Can't get card advantage without doing things in the opponent's turn.
Course, Anointed Procession + tokens/learn is almost card advantage.

Playing it out isn’t that much slower than scooping.

if its not a t2 robber of the rich they have a suboptimal hand
their ability to reset makes for such a better long game than most aggro decks

I am justified.
Also I don't have any Winotas in my collection anyway.
Get in nerds, we're going:
I'm not sure if that's a good sign or if I've used up all my luck for this Jumpstart already. :P
Not that it’s helped a ton; it took 7 matches before I got to 2 wins with my first entry. I remember this being easier last go-around.
Does Jumpstart have any new half decks?
Nope, same ones from last year.
in a balanced power level environment, it basically all comes down to drawing the right number of lands (and then no more).

The elves didn't give me enough ramp into the Dinos for some reason.
Goblins is dirty against most decks though regardless of what it's paired with. I was killing people with Predatory Goblins, while rarely ever using the Predatory cards at all.
Waaagh
And a Cleric deck.
And a Necromentia deck.

wondering whether to spend more gold on it or play some cube. both seem like bad value propositions, fun formats.
Yeah, nah.
It sucks and I'm a sucker.
it happens to everyone who brews!
