We should finish season 2 tonight!

So far my favourites are Iroh and Katara, which is absolutely indicative of where I am in life right now and I suspect my choice would be very different had I been watching this when it first aired.

Hello, friends. I am also watching Avatar for the first time after hearing it was great for a very long time.

    It is, in fact, great.

I finished season 1 late Friday night.
I just finished the mid-season 3 two parter.

I am so mad that I can’t spend $40 right now for the fuckoff huge Appa plush toy as it is out of stock.

I see Korra is already trending on twitter. Man, what an amazing franchise that people love despite Nickelodeon completely failing to market it.

Credit where credit is due, but Nickelodeon lets creators try some off the wall and interesting stuff (Avatar, TMNT, Spongebob, Victorious, iCarly, etc.).

Unfortunately they absolutely shit the bed on some of these IP as they get bigger, where I think Netflix could do a better job in handling them.

It had a movie debut there last year but Nickelodeon definitely flubbed capitalizing on it after it got wildly popular because it's batshit insane.

I would love to hear the meeting at Nick where they decided to give the guy who wrote "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac" a show.
I mean, that sounds like it would be a fascinating discussion to overhear.

I finished it. What an absolutely wonderful show from top to bottom. The last episode,
When they show the various masters retaking they city, I was like, whoa these guys are crazy good! Immediately cut back to full Avatar Ang and it’s like, oh. fuck.

I am sad I have to wait till I can watch Korra.

Korra is not as solid as Aang and that'd be an endorsement if the series did much with her.

As is I think Korra is the more interesting avatar with the less interesting (but more spread out) series.

Which is why I'm wholly brace for Korra bad takes to hit when people can view it.

EDIT: Like for all its flaws Korra starts with "the 1920's stuff exists because of post colonial fire nation stuff and the mess is mostly because Aang literally can't live long enough for that"

I'm curious to rewatch Korra. I haven't seen it since it aired (or "aired" thanks to Nick's method of releasing it).

Season one of Korra is interesting, and full of cool set pieces, but the central conflict doesn't really. Season two is a mess, but it has a handful of neat stuff. Season 3 of Korra is the best season of either show, and season 4 is a small step down, but still really good

I generally agree although I found the primary antagonist in season 4 so boring and uninteresting that it was kind of a drag.

  • Albino BunnyAlbino Bunny Jackie Registered User regular
In general Korra is a pretty good cast of central characters (with only Korra being consistent through the seasons) and some mixed ass writing for the plot.

Vs Aang who has some okay characters (minus Zuko and Iroh who are great always) and has one singular plot that helps keep stuff solid.

korra season 3 has lazy reactionary politics masquerading as insightful and the heroes don't win for any reason except because they must

    nobody earns or learns anything

it squanders a lot of good ideas, just like the first season did

    Desert Leviathan

I mean my entire take or response to stuff about Korra's politics is that Aang probably would have had some shit politics if he had something even vaguely more involved to respond to than the apocalypse causing foreign imperialism as his main threat.

I don't think that's a particularly accurate read of the third season!

    Spoiler free Korra analysis:

There are 4 seasons of Legend of Korra, but the creators only had 1 to start with, and then got the other 3 after the first. So season 1 feels like a complete story to the point where the end comes across a bit too final for a continuing series, then the other 3 seasons flow from one to the next a little cleaner. Common consensus is that 3 is the best season, with 1 and 4 solid with a few flaws, and 2 starting out really slow (again, season 1 felt fast, and 2 was more setup for a 3 season bit, so in comparison it felt like they hit the brakes super hard). Overall, though, solid TV, but different in scope from ATLA.

I dropped Korra after Season 1 because it took a really interesting moral quandary of benders and non bender discrimination then shit all over it.

Korra not having the space to do an actual story with the messy set up they wrote is like, the whole set up for better and worse regretfully.
