So what's the problem with WoTV? I got it advertised at me so I figured why not, seems decent enough to me as far as gachas go. They're doing a 1 year anniversary right now and giving away 1 billion gold and free Ultra units all over the place. Seems like a decent place to start.
I get that it's pretty pay-to-win if you're going to try to do PvP stuff but... I don't give a crap about PvP so whatever
It's very grindy; I think even more than FFBE. All the more recent grindy stuff from FFBE has basically been cloned from WotV; fragments, insignias, etc...
It does look way more generous than FFBE, but I think that's also because you need a lot more than FFBE.
There's very little (if any?) in the way of pity for pulls. Like I've seen some youtubers with 150k visiore saved up for this FF-X event and that doesn't guarantee anything.
Even after you pull the unit, you'll need more visiore (lapis) to buy the character shards to get them to max. Which can be stressful when it's a time-limited unit and you need to get all your shards before the event ends.
Also, every non-WoTV original unit is limited time, so like.. right now it's Tidus and Yuna. Did you max them out before the event is over? Too bad, you can't get them anymore so they're stuck at like max level 79 or something.
Sure, GL has time-limited units, but there are mechanics in place that at least if you pull the unit, you can eventually max them out through the monthly shard dungeon or STMR moogles and such.

That's now wrong. Barracks let you acquire shards for units as well as JP.

The thread title is mostly a jab at the upcoming collab banner with a GLEX unit that may or may not be useful. However, I personally don't care much for WoTV due to the "optimal" way of playing being auto-battling (which is slow unless you pay to speed it up or play consecutively for a year to unlock it), or even using skip tickets to skip actually having to play. If the best way to play a game is not to actively play it I'm gonna skip the install step and play at the MOST optimal level.
Personally, Exvius could do with some skip tickets. Having to hit repeat three hundred times and go through six hundred result screens for farm events is very annoying. Pokemon Masters is the other gacha I play and the ability to go "yeah, if you can do a stage without losing a single character one you clearly can do it every time, so you can just skip" is very welcome.
But mostly far as I can tell WoTV is most of the bad of Exvius plus most of the bad of Alchemist Code, with the good things of neither.
That's what I like about Guardian Tales. You play a stage once, then you can run it on auto, and you can earn the ability to just autoskip the stages once you gain enough rank. Pretty much any grinding stage can be swept like that. No tickets needed.

Thanks for that. I generally don't mind auto-battle because that allows me to just have my phone sitting next to me and grinding while I work. My other Gacha right now is Romancing Saga RE so I guess I have a thing for gachas that play themselves :P

I play Gacha for the background distraction they provide, not to challenge myself, because that's how you fall into their marketing trap, which I abhor. My MO: try out a gacha for a bit. If it manages to keep me for a week, I'll usually give a bit of money as a "tip" of sorts, but never more than that. I hate the Gacha business model and, if I'm being honest, I also kinda dislike the whales that keep proving that such predatory marketing practices actually work. The whole marketplace is predicated on skeevy practices, but, despite that, I appreciate the artistry present in a lot of these games, so I don't mind giving a bit of money. I find the fact these games have the gall to even have an option to spend hundreds of dollars on them to be highly offensive.
It's a love/hate relationship, and I refuse to play at any pace but my own. I will never dominate any leaderboards and, frankly, I feel sorry for anyone who feels they must (and consequently pay money) in order to derive satisfaction from these things. I'll stick to enjoying what story bits exist and the pretty art and music, and I will feel no guilt when the game loses my interest and I move on.
Oh yeah, I agree with most of those points. I do enjoy a challenge, however, but not to the point of having to be the best - just good enough to clear most things. I got Rank 1 in DV once and that's good enough for me (and likely mostly impossible starting with the next one!). I still have to do the Bahamut trial which is decently difficult, I just haven't spend the time to figure the puzzle out with the units I have/like.
I'm f2p with this game and will only spend google play credit that I accumulate through surveys etc. This means I have to be pretty selective when it comes to chasing units, but that's fine since I don't feel the need to chase the meta - just units I like for aesthetic reasons. It is nice when the units I think look cool end up being meta.

idk, if FFBE had an auto-battle for Raids and MK events where you could just repeat the stage till you were out of nrg, I'm not sure I'd call that the game playing itself. The core of the game is still to collect characters, fight bosses, and events like DV.

That's fair enough, but even then, I don't think I'd use it. There are plenty of games I have played that include an auto battle option and I've never really used it.
I wouldn't be opposed to it for other people to use though!

I won’t get 1 of course but it’ll be fun to see how close I can get this DV.

I mean, the game already plays itself for all the farm stages. All I've been doing with my energy for weeks is click the stage cleared screens and hit repeat - all skip tickets would change is they would save me a ton of time, and probably also mean I'd actually farm raids past the first week.
All the clicking does is make sure you have a lot of time spent in-app for very little gain, which looks good in Alim's quarterly metrics.
One of my peeves with the mk events since around NV is adding a boat load of hp to trash in the farm stage. Making me waste time doing an actually set up instead of just hitting repeat lowered my willingness to grind. Especially with groups, because in the first event(the FFVII one) neither of the NV units had actually good AoE damage until brave shift. I still did it because Cloud and Tifa, but NV FFBE is not really enjoyable to me. I don't play to beat big bosses or "challenge myself" by copying other people's strats. I play to character collect.
Datamine shows that the new NV unit has 90% DEF breaks, which JP doesn't even have. She's a must pull then for anyone who is trying to maximize DV scores.

Yep, was just coming in to grudgingly say the same and pull my lapis back out...
At least that 90% DEF break is in the base form, so if that's all you use her for then you don't need copies and can just farm fragments later.
I have no desire to max DV scores, since I'm missing other units and items to take advantage of that DEF break anyway. I just dropped my last remaining summon tickets and called it after that. I did get my first NV Aerith, so that's neat.
I'm tempted to throw a single 5k just so I can grab Sterne with a summon coin so I have the option of getting his STMR.
It's discounted! It's only 4500! Practically a steal (from your stash)!
Well hot damn! I'll probably do it, as I'll still have the necessary Lapis to guarantee King Behemy when he comes around (and we have new story stages to get more lapis)
I was caught up in the pulling hype and did a bunch of lapis pulls. 9th pull got me 2x Vinera. I pulled FinaRain #1 and SoS Lightning #2 on the way. Also pulled 3x Sterne and 3xWoTVGilgamesh. So, I just need to decide who to use moogles on and what to do with 9 coins.
Also, I'm pretty much broke at this point, but I don't care. It was fun pulling on a banner!

Got Vinera in first loop of pulls so that’s cool, got a Sterne too so I can moogle a second STMR of his if I feel I need it at any point. Not
too shabby.
I threw one roll at the banner to see if I hit a Sterne and if not get it with a coin, and surprisingly enough, I did. And also one of the banner NV. Continuing my trend of having more chances of getting a rare unit the less I give a fuck about them.

Same thing happened to me. Pulled once for a coin for Sterne (I'll just Omniprism and STMR moogle him) and wound up pulling a Vinera on top of that.

I did the free thing and got 3 NVs, thought two were ones I already had so . . . shards!
WotV would be better if it didn't need a 6 way+ grind for various materials which isn't fun at all and the only redeeming factor is that auto-battle/skip feature. In games with such features, my attitude is that decreasing the grind would make the game better and preclude the need to have an auto-battle/skip ticket feature at all.

I generally play phone games in between real games and real life. Like, while I'm waking up in the morning, or using the bathroom. Or boiling noodles. You know, chunks of minutes at a time.
This would be one of the reasons why the actual campaign of FFBE (and any phone game with a main campaign) gets very little play time: I'm almost never going to just focus down and play a phone game as if it were a real one. And that's on me, I know this, but I also know that means that if a game has an "auto" mode then I might leave it on for hours on accident because I set down my phone and it was running. Which is helpful up until the phone turns itself off.

FFVIIR is the next JP banner. Free unit is NV Aerith and she's NUTS for a free unit. Her LB is a 45% Light amp, 400% all stats buff, and AoE 250% LB damage buff. NV Tifa's TMR is 60% ATK and +100% Chain Cap (so, her TMR is a straight upgrade from SoS Lightning's STMR). NV Sephiroth is coming but no real info on him.
Oh, and they held a vote to see which Friend Point gacha unit is gonna get an NV. Rizer won, so NV Rizer is gonna be a thing.
New unit is a Magic Tank / Buffer that shifts into Magic Tank / SPR DPS. Very surprised they went with a tank as the new unit. We've just passed Snow, King Behemy is at the end of the month, and Beatrix should be with the May MK event. That's a lot of tanks at once for a type that usually gets like one unit per year.
As always, have to wait until datamine to see the actual numbers, but Melia looks pretty neat. I already have Faisy, so not particularly interested in another magic tank right now, though. Cute sprite.
Esther's rework is looking promising based on what they did show and I am now cautiously optimistic. She's getting a Magnus ability that will increase her lightning physical damage, LB damage and damages with BS frames. Her TMR and STMR are getting buffed, too. Storm Kickers go to 51 ATK and 20% LB damage and the Bunny Suit gets 800 -> 900 HP and 40 -> 55 ATK. If her damage mods and ability revamps are goos then I'll be happy. I can actually run two Esthers currently and I might just do that for some trials if the rework turns out good.

It'll be interesting to see how high they boost the modifiers. Right now, she's missing the flat ATK boosts that have let units like CP Noctis back into the NV meta. One of the big advantages that NVA units gets is the card, which is a huge ATK/MAG stat boost. They also sometimes get flat ATK from their NVA passive skill levels. Noctis gets around this by having his STMR boosted to give a him-only flat ATK boost, so as long as he's got one or two copies of his (leveled, oof grind) STMR on him, his ATK is back in-line. But Esther is getting neither a card slot or a flat-stat boost (and I mean like a +500 ATK boost, not the little boost from her TMR/STMR).

I'm hoping they just add a flat ATK boost on one of her passives.
