The mail system finally fixed itself so we just did a clean out of the clan to make room. If you got kicked and you want back in, just ask.
We may have accidentally kicked Infidel because of a bug, so a shoutout specifically to them.
shryke what are the rules as far as clan membership and expectations? I play a couple times a week and will probably never be able to raid again, but I might want people to randomly join up with?
People pretty much only get kicked when they've been offline for like ~100+ days so you're probably fine.
Yeah, seriously, we only kick people to clear space for new people and that usually means removing people who haven't logged on in over 200 days at this point. It gets a bit tighter around when the September expansion drops and we might remove people who've not logged in for a few months. I believe Shadowkeep launch was the only time I had to consider whether people who hadn't logged on in weeks should be removed.
Any chance I could get an invite then? IGN is Shadowfire.

I want to do the dungeons because I've not done either Pit of Hersheys or Prophecy yet and I want to do the raids because, 1, I've never done Spire of Stars at all and have never cleared...the other lair... or Crown, and, 2, I want that dumb ring I'm never going to wear.
So, conveniently, I'm on PTO for the next week with nowhere to go because pandemic and I need a distraction anyway because my cat is super sick and maybe not getting better, so anybody on PS4 wanna run all that shit with me over the next week? Specifically, anyone want to do the Pit tomorrow? And then maybe a raid a day next week? I'm like 1040 now so I should be high enough for Prophecy by the end of all that.

Here's a question, and maybe I missed this, but with the pyramid ships here and Savathun on the way WHAT THE FUCK IS IKORA RAY DOING RIGHT NOW COULD THEY JUST NOT GET HER VOICE ACTRESS BACK OR WHAT.

Not even handing out rewards for doing a bunch of bounties every week like she used to do. You'd think she'd be all over the tree on Io, considering how much she loves Io.
Speaking of Io, I was wandering around doing the Io step of the vaulting quest and scanned a random vex gate ring, in response to which Ghost said, "I wonder what ever happened to that Exo who warned us about the Vex. I hope she's alright" or similar. Is that new? I certainly don't remember any references to the Stranger before.

That's been there since launch of 2. There are a VERY small handful of references to the Stranger, mostly in lore cards.

Yes. Sadly that's basically the reason.
All the season content leans heavy on a small handful of the voice cast. They'll usually get either Ikora or Zavala back and usually Zavala these days.

@Local H Jay maybe you already know this but catalyst drops are apparently strongly tied to how many unfinished ones you have.
When I was working on finishing them up I would almost instantly get another one each time I dropped down to 6 or 7 unfinished ones, and at something like 9 you basically never get another one until you clear some out.
On one hand, if they're gonna sunset, the just fucking sunset and quit dragging shit forward. Giving a reward that you can only use for a few months seems like an odd choice now, give us something newish that will see some longer term use.
New shit costs them dev time (money.) Much easier to change a field in the database and make folks chase the same things again.
The weird thing is there is no reason Militia's Birthright would disappear, EDZ isn't going anywhere. They're just effectively removing those rewards as a thing people could chase for reasons. Shit, only Mindbenders is really super meta and Felwinter's kind of took care of the accessibility issue for PVP.
They've been moving away from the idea of NF specific drops since at least Shadowkeep. And I can't say I'm exactly upset.
I think it's hard to prove they've "moved away" from NF specific drops, as much as we all know their ability to develop meaningful rewards for all manner of content is less than ideal. I'd be very surprised if the D1 Redux strikes don't return with their generally coveted Strike-specific rewards (like Grasp of Malok).
They didn't give either of the new strikes anything. No emblems, no loot, nothing. It's not just things that would take awhile to develop. Now maybe the slow content pipeline is a big part of why they stopped making content for it, but I think it's clear at this point that at least in Y3 they straight up decided to just abandon the idea all together. They aren't even trying.
But again, the relative dearth of loot in Strikes is reflected across all content — folks have notably complained about Trials and its repurposed armor + a few weapons, and Prophecy's new loot was initially developed for Eververse and then repositioned in response to player feedback and their proposed initiative to make content more rewarding in terms of unique loot.
Now, many folks are content bitching ad nauseam, but my ever-hopeful expectation is that Beyond Light is a substantial shift. By virtue of adding a fourth element alone, alongside sunsetting, there is absolutely design pressure that necessitates tons of new gear, and if they truly intend to further define Destiny as an MMO experience, the game needs a broad spread of content to care about for both the loot and the gameplay.
And to a certain extent, I feel like the diminished nature of Season of the Dawn and Season of the Worthy was a consequence of putting much of their eggs in the Beyond Light basket.
Without knowing anything about game development, etc.
Shadowkeep and it’s following seasons were a test run. Bungie left Activision, New Light hit, etc. They wanted to see what worked and what didn’t.
Hopefully Beyond Light and the following seasons address the issues that have cropped up.
For being free of Activision, they pulled a very activision-esque move with their monetization strategy. Basically just charging wherever they thought they could get away with it because "technically" its a free to play game.
But its not FtP for the hardcore, we're all in for $40-80+ most years to get new stuff to play. And nickel and diming on cosmetics that are supposed to provide for content on a live game stings a bit when you get a crap season like season 10. They don't even do the thing that most companies do now where you get the paid currency from the season pass.
Full price expansions with full price season and the full FtP cosmetic spread. One of those thing really needs to go, and it seems like maybe the toning down of eververse will be the thing

I'm currently sitting on Mida, Suros, and Vigilance. I know your pain.
Also, Sunshot. Because some idiot programmer screwed up "Kills" and "Explosion Kills" requirements for both Sunshot and graviton lance.
Seriously, why are both of those 500 kills, and then also 1000 kills with the explosion effect generated by the kills. The first 500 literally just doesn't need to be there at all.
Now and then I notice that I'm not bad in crucible if I just mercilessly leverage melee abilities and mobility to ambush targets and disengage when my martyrdom won't get press time.
Using guns I'm not awful with helps, too.
It just feels unsatisfying to win by playing smrt instead of gud.

I checked, I have about 10 in-progress catalysts, including Mida, Sweet Business, Cerberus+1, Hard Light, and Whisper. Not to mention all the exotics from the previous season passes like Eriana's and Matchbook. Yeesh. Wonder how many I need to do to get Telesto to drop.
Having only been back for a few weeks, I've found the Altars of Sorrow event on the moon to be the best for a constant stream of fragile redbars.
They're also usually tightly packed enough to satisfy the collateral splosion requirements for e.g. sunshot.

Had my first chance for more than 20 minutes and my slow, but steady climb continues. Ran with a mice crew through several Cotrol events on Titan.
Got my warlock up to 970 LL, a Cerberus+1 catalyst, a decent but not God roll Gnawing Hunger and a boat load of umbrals.
I consider it a productive couple of hours.

Hunter running top tree nightstalker with orpheus rigs, use the wish wall to warp to shuro chi encounter. Should be able to knock out the kill requirements for Sweet Business, Cerberus+1, Hard Light, Eriana's and Matchbook in like an hour, hour and half tops. Just tether the initial thrall spawn, all of the tethered kills count towards the catalyst totals, and you get a raid banner drop to restock after every wipe.
Whisper you probably should finish before the mission goes away at the end of the season too.
I absolutely love to shit on Bungie because, imo, they deserve it and also, it continually mystifies me how they get away with stuff that other games and developers would be eviscerated for / punished by lack of sales.
However.
The current story and the linking of the Lighthouse / Vance is fantastic. The quite possibly long term storytelling involving Shaxx, the Ahamkara, and Eris is great. I also noticed Eris said "Thank you" at a REALLY weird time when Zavala was talking during the end of the mission this week that raised tinfoil hat thoughts. They seem to be doing a better job and if they pull it off, I will be shocked, but happily shocked.
Basically, I think Bungie might be improving on the story part....but we'll see how Beyond Light goes.

in SoTP, I currently just know how to be a runner with the batteries on the last boss. One problem I'm coming up against is that after the first dps phase, I use up all of my whisper ammo and nothing i'm doing is driving me to any more. Is there some pit stop I should be making to try and get more heavy ammo?
Also Re: catalysts: @Local H Jay I saw a video yesterday where a guy was using the Whisper of the Worm heroic mission to do the explosion catalysts for sunshot/graviton lance. Looked pretty easy.
Scourge drops Fallen Armaments, I guess. I usually run during Insurrection Prime, and you don't have to spend any special ammo on the Berserkers if you have a high damage primary like a sidearm, so you can use a legendary sniper to cover. I also wait until my Whisper catalyst kicks in and I have phase synergy, which is more ammo-efficient.
Damn. Two days off wasted hunting for that catalyst and another few hours last night working on catalysts I don't even want thinking it was my fault somehow. Ffs Bungie
What's the consensus on best choice of buyable exotic from Rahool?
I'm figuring either Bastion or Symmetry?
Bastion is great for PvP.
Symmetry is a scout rifle so it's bad by default. Some people like it, but I've never found it to be worth using.
the catalyst with the 20 stack is funny to use in pve sometimes, but yeah, it suffers from the scout rifle problem. it works occasionally elsewhere because it's a rapid fire scout? but still, scout. I'd go Bastion
Bastion is a lot of fun. Once you get used to the timing of it, having that thing go CHUNK CHUNK CHUNK and watching 1-3 enemy Guardians fall is always a feel good moment.

I wanted to love Symmetry, but occasionally the full auto thing didn't work, and that enraged me. The D1 bug with VoC is not something I want in D2.

I know basically any loadout can do work in the Strike playlist, but there was something special about using Ruinous Effigy on Hashladun and just chilling next to her, turning her minions into damage orbs, and slowly eating her with darkness power while she is helpless to stop us.
I guess Lumina is out as my casual Strike exotic, so yeah, Darkness winning the battle for my soul.
It oddly bothers me that no one's made any connections to the Savathun's Song strike, where Guardians got turned into Void Crystals, and us now having a weapon that turns people into essentially void crystals.

In glass 1/10 full side, that means you still have 4 potential drops for it left this week. Two first phases, and two boss kills, if you want to do that this weekend. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Well, considering how comically B-movie nonsense that whole strike is, I don’t think the narrative team would be overly concerned with cementing any of its plot as canonical or relevant.

What are you talking about, the writing / voice acting for the Guardian who sacrifices herself is......okay, yeah, it's terrible.
And yeah, if the answer to why they didn't put any connection in-game is because "The strike's storyline is dogshit"....that's acceptable.

This was a good week of modifiers for Prestige Spire of Stars, so we ran that to get our SoS completion.
The gladiator modifier (melee kills buff weapon damage, weapon kills buff melee damage), a graverobber / one-two punch shotgun, and all the punch-related Leviathan mods all going at once is silly fun.
