Speaking of preorders, when I went to buy some currency for a game and it kicked me back to the home page yet again (:P), I saw that you can preorder NieR Replicant ver.<PRETENTIOUS NUMBERS>, and one version even has the soundtrack. Didn't even know it was coming out... and as much as I hated playing through the "critically-acclaimed masterpiece"?! NieR:Automata, the soundtrack is the one thing from it that I still enjoy. It looks to be releasing 04/22/21.
Really wish they'd do a release of Drakengard 3 on the Xbox though...

I am an old fogey. What are you kids doing with sharing / share button from gaming? I think I’ve shared one screenshot, ever. And that was a final Destiny raid screen here. Maybe I am missing out.
Would be great to have a macro/script setting for it (open this game, log in past main menu, start a party, set tv volume to X, etc). But now I’m just dreaming.
I haven't shared a single screenshot or video, but I have a bunch saved. I use it for "oh shit did you see what just happened?" style videos, videos of achievements that work best in video form (like a really good round of PvP where I do a bunch of cool shit and end up at the top of the leaderboard or getting a perfect on a song in a rhythm game), screenshots of funny text lines in text-based games, and screenshots of achievements that work in screenshot form (like the scoreboard after a blowout game).

Likewise, for me they're just for capturing particularly unusual (or, in rare cases, impressive) feats. Like coming down to literally the last second of the "all in one run" achievement in Outer Wilds, or the one time I actually managed to snap someone else's neck in Titanfall. Or when completing the Fortress of the Damned in Sea of Thieves, everyone playing Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" while firing cannons in time.

I think I also managed to capture my first-ever Ultra Combo in Killer Instinct.

Steve has been rumored for so long, I'm not surprised. Banjo was really the wildcard. But still, speaks to Minecraft's influence. Wonder if this means known insane person Notch is mentioned in the smash credits now?

Hopefully not -- usually the only credit change is the company gets added to the ever-growing copyright list. Did Notch get a "must include a credit shout-out" to his buyout years ago?

No shit That aside, it's a very cute trailer (it's easy to forget that Minecraft is one of the top five most popular video games on the planet by a bunch of metrics)--I actually thought Steve had been added to Smash Brothers a while back but I think I was just hearing the rumors over and over again until I was incepted.
he was only removed from loading/flavour text. he's still in the credits.
I have a suspicion this is probably contractually unavoidable
Good to take him off splash screens, but he's kinda gotta be in the credits IMO. I don't see a benefit to pretending he didn't build the game. Is the solution to someone going crazy for us to pretend that they have never ever contributed anything positive to society? That seems silly.
It is a video game, not the founding of a nation. Removing him is totally fine cause there isnt anything that would be important to leave him in.
Yeah its only video games. Not like politics or representation or labor rights matter therein because its just video games. No problem when companies delete employees from credits because they left the company before the game they spent years of their life working on shipped.
Credits are not a fucking statue or monument, its the bare minimum of recognition for work on a piece of art. It ought to be a labor right, not a privledge to be taken away from even shit people.
Minecraft was created by a shit guy and nothing Microsoft does now is going to erase that fact that his work is the foundation they continue to iterate on and AFAIK have amended to introduce diversity into. Any more than Konami could erase that Kojima and his studio made MGS V by deleting it from all labeling and marketing.

I care. Erasing him from the credits doesn't further any purpose. The credits aren't a medium for him to spread his hate, they don't make any meaningful amount of people find out about him for the first time. All erasing his name from the credits would accomplish is weaken the ability of artists to get recognition for their work.

Labor rights are rights, not whims. This is a bad attitude to have, full stop. It's like saying "Notch doesn't deserve his scheduled breaks or protection from being fired based on his sexual preference, because he's an asshole." Like... he absolutely IS a bad dude and he doesn't deserve praise or anything like that. But he does deserve the same labor rights as any other worker. This is of key importance because the games/tech industry in particular is loaded with hateful racists, sexists, bigots, etc. If you try to institute the "it's okay to cheat people of their rights/earnings/credits if you think they're a bad person in some way" rule, guess who will actually be destroyed by that? Certainly not powerful and wealthy guys like Notch. More like the victims at Ubisoft who will be abused by management, betrayed by HR, and then have their credit and payment stolen from them when they finally choose to leave to protect themselves.
Yeah, credits aren't actually protected under law, but that's because the game industry is trash, they absolutely should be taken as seriously as movie credits are in America.

This is just me but I think more than one thing can be true at a time
I would whole-heartedly support Mojang excising the stink of Notch's reputation entirely if they found some sort of legal loophole that allowed them to not have his name listed (like, a fundamentally, structurally different version of Minecraft or something), because a tool for unadulterated diversity and inclusivity shouldn't need to be associated with the ideas of a person who advocates the complete opposite. Slippery slope arguments don't diminish this at all
But at the same time if any part of the property still bears part of the work that Notch created then it's his essential basic workers right to have that work recognised, which is something that is exceptionally hard to come by in the industry
I don't think there's a clear solution to the problem as people think there is
In other news MS sent streamers test kits too Gothalion, ItMeJP and his partner Aurelian all got units
Oh apparently tons of influencers did but some are saying they were sent retail units?
I’m shocked none of the partners or reviewers have been leaking Xbox stuff so far. The big prior leaks have seen to come from teams working on graphics/collateral.
What do we think the most visually impressive XSX launch game will be? I think it’ll be gears 5 with the 120fps, but my TV only has hdmi 2.0

A clear solution to what problem? How to unperson a person who is no longer in favour? You can avoid purchasing or playing the game. You can recommend to others to avoid purchasing or playing the game. If he works on another you can remind yourself and others that he is a garbage person and to reconsider support in the future. But he did make this one and he has the right to receive credit for it.
Oh look, boots up as fast as a chromebook. Next gen!
I have a feeling a Chromebook would chug trying to have two tabs open playing games in both ones
The video showed bootup time which everyone is fapping over as some next gen achievement.
I'm kinda stupidly excited over all the small QOL improvements XSX is bringing. Fast boot ups, quiet operation, HDMI-CEC, day 1 back compatibility, fast resume, etc.
It's kinda like the X1 launch, except instead of weird non-gaming features I didn't want, it has ones I do. The only thing Xbox could reasonably do to get me more hyped is to announce a family gamepass option for like $25/mo.
Authors don't get excised from their work when they're detested. Looking at you, Lovecraft. They shouldn't, and historically, it doesn't work well when it's tried. For historians even if it is a bit outdated, The Gulag Archipelago is still a very important work--even if Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is a lurid anti-Semite and aggressive apologist for Russian nationalist chauvinism. If you think the author taints the work, reject the work itself--probably not going to happen in the case of Minecraft, considering it's one of the most popular video games in the world, admittedly.
With (some of) the embargo lifted, we're seeing more looks at the Xbox Series controllers and the expensively-fast storage. Didn't see this one shared:
I'm probably just slow on the uptake, but there's a lot of gameplay videos coming out, mostly focusing on quick resume and load times (which is a neat feature, admittedly, and probably one the embargos are allowing them to share).
Speaking of Lovecraftian xenophobia/racism/"He was a product of his times", I started up The Sinking City (picked it up last sale) and they actually have a disclaimer that says:
Inspired by the works of H.P Lovecraft, The Sinking City depicts an era in which ethnic, racial, and other minorities were frequently mistreated by society.
These prejudices were and still are wrong, but have been included for an authentic depiction of that time, rather than pretend they never existed.
It is a game with literal fishpeople and apemen. Though... it seems so far that actual 1920s segregation doesn't exist in this game, which takes place in middle of nowhere, Massachusetts. I guess they transferred it to those groups? Will have to see.

Yeah, Lovecraft was big on having society infiltrated by monsters and corruptors that represent, well, everyone who wasn't white and Christian, since that's what he personally believed. Non-racist people have tried to take that general setting and make it non-racist with varying levels of success. I can't speak for The Sinking City, but Lovecraft Country? Holy shit. Turns things on its head in a masterful way.

I recall the game being controversial for exactly this reason when it came out--and while I don't think the game itself was all that memorable unless you were really a fan of that sort of third-person adventure genre, I think most reviews seem to acknowledge that the studio and developers dried really, really hard to take period bigotry and racism and apply them to demi-human character types, with a clear message of "See, this is definitely not okay, in fact it's bad, and it's just perpetuating itself" as an answer to any suspicion of whitewashing. Humans are suspicious and bigoted towards fishpeople...who are suspicious and bigoted towards ape people (in fact, this happens in your first case, from what I remember), because why wouldn't they be? Minority exclusion doesn't somehow cure bigotry for its victims either. That doesn't make it a good video game, but it does seem to strongly suggest they tried.
Plus, it's a video game, where we have collectively decided that racism is bad, but taking historical American war crimes and warmongering and optimistically suggesting "No, the Russians did it, lolz" repeatedly isn't just acceptable, but possibly even enlightened if you can write a non-terrible female lead (so, in other words, racial scapegoating is bad...except towards vaguely Middle Eastern brown people and Slavs, because they have it coming). The industry, collectively, has low standards in this particular area, but I've already voiced these complaints and I'll try not to take the tangent futher.
Yeah, I only finished the first case last night, but the police force and community in that area seemed to be surprisingly integrated and well... diverse. The MC served in WWI, which would also imply that its timeline is very similar to ours, and he even notes prohibition... but uh... now there's two additional "races" that while they experience bigotry and such somehow existed parallel to this other stuff which wouldn't likely have occurred as it would.
Yet, the MC seems to be surprised by both of them, which suggests these two groups are new/unique to this area? Also the MC is from Boston... at a time when Italians weren't even considered "White"... and it's just... I don't think they know or considered just how bad things were? Haven't really played far enough to see how it works out though. I mean, it is a video game, not a history lesson. But it feels like they've kind of simplified it all.
