Also, something I'm not clear on: do consumables/gatherables in BotW ever repopulate? So far I haven't noticed them repopulating, and I can see why an exploration game might not have them repopulate, but even so it's kind of harsh
Nintendo daddy...
korok seeds and stuff are never going to repopulate but i think trees and stuff do at the 3 day red moon when the monsters do. Certainly fruit and stuff does then.
i don't think there are infinite diamonds or anything but i could be wrong
you need approximately 1% as much stuff as you think you do

Don't all minerals, trees, fruits, etc reset at the blood moon along with the enemies and wildlife?

Ah, I was really wondering about the fruit, mushrooms, and etc. Like, you get SO MUCH that I could see them never repopulating as a way to encourage people to look around a bit, check over hill and under dale and etc.
that would be mean to little kids tho, who are less likely to use them efficiently
good to know!

there's a way to get more health that basically trivializes the game that relies on the reset

The idea that some gamers find Breath of the World "empty" was initially so shocking to me because the landscape itself is CRAMMED with playfully designed elements and stunningly beautiful living art. The design expertly lures you from place to place and puts you into just the right spot to compose perfect vistas over and over. It's no accident that this keeps happening, it's all hand made and intentional.
There are surreal landscapes like three identical hills with three identical trees on them. There are furrows in hills designed to funnel rocks like a big marble machine. There are snowboard courses and woods designed for stalking deer. Trees positioned for you to make bridges. It's this amazing pastoral wonderland of haunting beauty.
And some people play the game and they literally don't see it. It's empty.

The basic BotW rule is that if it isn't in a chest, then it regenerates. Random swords stuck in the ground, enemies, trees and fruit, etc. Chests don't, I think they're the only exception.
1.) "There's nothing to do the game is too open" - lacking initiative, lacking sense of wonder
2.) "The world is empty" - blunted sense of beauty, deficient spatial aesthetic appreciation, unimaginative
3.) "The weapons break too fast! I want my weapons forever" - Obsessed with control, inflexible, hoarder
4.) "There's not enough big dungeons" - ok this is actually true
I already played The Witness and almost immediately gave up, but I'm going to torrent Breath of the Wild and then delete it without opening just to be sure

Slowly eating a picture of pewdiepie is the most sexual act I can imagine. I don't see why the nerds are upset.

I think it was pretty masterful how the game emphasizes going to high places because 1) you need to activate the towers, and 2) you want to survey for shrines
but then these core gameplay loops also generate engaging travel experiences as you plot your approach and end in sublimely beautiful vistas!
I like the idea of a stationary appliance that is passive the vast majority of the time, but every once in a while gets up and begins foraging

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.
