Star Trek: Lower Decks trailer is out. SPOILERS in effect!
Tng has been my background show for a bit and I just in the span of a couple days hit the "geordi is an ultra creep casually revealing stalkerish knowledge then yells at woman for not giving him a chance," episode, the distinct childhood memory high of "episode I had recorded on a vhs tape where geordi is turned into an invisible alien," and just now the wonderfully progressive "Dr crusher can't possibly continue to be in love with her Trill partner because their new host body would make the relationship non-cishet and quote humans just aren't ready to love like that"
This is an emotional rollercoaster
TNG is definitely a product of its time in many regards.

Eh. I don't think that's pretty hot-take-y on a couple of those episodes.
Geordi's definitely got bad expectations about Braum's from the previous episode with the hologram of her but mostly what that leads to is completely wrong expectations about Braum's. And he doesn't yell at her for not giving him a chance, he yells at her for being a dick to him since the second she arrives on the ship. Which is true and which she basically cops to and they both admit they fucked up and came into the meeting with preset expectations and that was bad.
And Crusher's dialogue at the end of The Host is a bit Star Trek cheesy but I don't think there's anything wrong or weird about someone tapping out on a relationship when it alters that drastically. And the episode itself phrases this in a way that suggests this isn't the only option, just merely the one Crusher is comfortable with.
Speaking of TNG... I just got to the episode where Worf crushed his spine. I thought I knew what was going to happen... And then I didn't know... And then I did know... And then it happened and then I was like "OOHHHH FUCKKKKKKK" and then I was happy. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. Watching this show in syndication was probably amazing.

With that episode, pay attention to what he says to Riker, and then watch for the same phrase in the next episode.
I posted about this a few weeks ago, but it's something you almost never notice except in a binge. It's probably accidental, but it's great.

Yeah, as a trans lady who transitioned in a relationship, I really have no objections to a partner deciding / knowing their sexuality is not fluid. I personally find the fact that she obviously had sex with Riker’s body without talking to him about it beforehand a lot more objectionable.
Just popping in to say that we watched Skin of Evil last night. It was as terrible as I remembered, and Denise Crosby got stiffed.
That said, there was some comedy value in spouse saying "Doesn't Tasha Yar die in season one?" She'd never seen the episode, so that was amusing.
But the story is still garbage - Armus is bad because they are a baddy, and they say that themselves!

To be fair, he's literally made of the pure badness of an entire race that they removed from themselves and left behind like a shit in the middle of the floor. It's a very TOS kind of setup.
Doesn't really work in the end though I think. I do enjoy that it basically ends with Picard just leaving him there.

The real insult was that she was buried in Windows XP
But how else do you recommend the Enterprise carry it's supply of monkeys if not in barrels?
These are the figurative metric of fun.
Is this thing more or less fun than a barrel of monkeys? Worf seems pretty convinced everything is more fun.
I am unreasonably bothered by the uniform mixing in Generations. Goddamn cheap studio.
Is that more or less bothered than Starfleet changing its entire uniform every 5-8 years? :P
It's just kind of weird because they can literally replicate new uniforms. So it begs the question of why they have different uniforms. It's such a small thing that can have such a big impact on suspension of disbelief, or at the very least causes audience dissonance that lowers the quality of the content as a whole.

Eh, that happens in real life all the time so I give them a pass there. A buddy of mine was in the Army for like 10 years and went through 3 different uniform styles.

Real life US military (I can't speak for other nations') loves to change up the uniform. Sometimes they even go back to the exact same uniform (or at least very close) they used at some point in the past. No idea why.
Edit: Beated. Like a dead horse, even.
So... uh... how 'bout that Lower Decks? Have they announced when we're getting another season of that?
My gut reaction is to say that maybe they let officers just choose what style of uniform they want. But at the same time, that kind of flies in the face of what a "uniform" is supposed to be. If you're going to be that freespirited about the whole thing, you might as well just make the "uniform" requirement a comm badge and command pips and that's it. Casual Friday, everyday.

if that was true, Jadzia Dax would always be wearing a TOS uniform and Picard would always be wearing that jacket that fits way better.
And Riker could finally stop dominating chairs once he got a uniform that fit him.
It was his back, not the uniform.
I choose to believe that post-beard Riker would have always rocked the skirt that one dude (or dudette; I don't know how they identify) was wearing in the TNG pilot.

For what it's worth, for a long time that was the official "uniform" policy for STO (acknowledging the reality that players are going to dress themselves and their crews however they liked). Even NPCs wore a mix of styles. In more recent years, however, they seem to have settled on the Odyssey uniform (inspired, I believe, by some of the novels) as the standard.
Also, that one guy in the TNG pilot was wearing a "skant", Gene's desperate attempt to claim that miniskirts weren't sexist/an excuse to show off the legs of the actresses, look, men wear them too!

His back was turned and everything!
I also read your post in his voice.

The quality of S1 and S2 obviously weren’t there wrt budget and scripts, but Jones’ work on the soundtrack simply slaps.

I feel like McCoy would be offended by this non-alcoholic Mint Julep recipe
I'm cool with it tho, I'm just offended by that spectacularly awful Gone with the Wind pun
Also do wish they had gone one step further and made the cookbook not just non-alcoholic but vegetarian, too

Probably.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, but I'll take STV over any of the TNG movies.
Just watch out for the cheese-based recipes.
the cheese, uh, finds a way...
What a cheesy response.
but generations and first contact are good though
(I stand by my generations is incredibly underappreciated stance)

There's a lot to like about generations. It's just all dragged down by an incredibly shitty plot.

ANY of the TNG movies.
one man's cheese is another man's fromage - Picard probably
