Everyone should have a Lego thread.

Pretty sure the Koopa has been posted in those threads though.

Yeah, the Lego thread I am aware of is in D&D, the Bowser was posted there earlier today. Didn't realize there's a Lego thread in SE++, I should bookmark it.

    Gentle... gentle... GOT IT!

Hoo. Took a bit of figuring, finagling, and blind luck in some places. But I did get it all collapsed and transformed! Even better.. I can still use most of the missile pylons! I'd love some kind of 3d printed rack or something to display the rest of the weapon loadout.

(ugh, didn't realize my flash was off, this isn't the best.)

I need to get him a flying stand, but for now... this will work.

Man, it's a real bummer that I was still part time and couldn't justify dropping $500+ on a toy I didn't even have shelf space for, especially since a year later I finally got full time employment.

Even if I ultimately didn't want it, sucker goes for like 3-5 times it's original price on ebay.

Edit: I didn't buy one since I just didn't have the display space to dedicate for just him. I was tempted though.

I don't plan on doing this again until I get more train pieces, but I decided to shift Shouki to torso mode at least once.

I was not prepared for how chunky he is. Like.. just a brick.

Very interesting engineering on the shoulder joints, designed to get stronger when weight is put on them due to a pair of hooks. The backpack is a bit excessive, and I'm worried about rubbing there. But it is extremely secure, which is nice.

Last week I found out Hasbro reissued the GI Joe Cobra Stinger jeep on Hasbro Pulse, and when I excitedly ran to the site to look at it, the pre-order was already sold out. Which... I don't get. It's a pre-order. Make as many a people order.

But, anyway, I really wanted one of those as a kid and I continue to be denied my rightful possession. lol

They're already on eBay for $99. For a $39 toy.

Yeah, the secondary market is borked.

As for why they don't just "make more," Hasbro is INCREDIBLY cheap. They don't want to make extra product and have it sit around in a warehouse or have to be clearanced off. Remember, these aren't made to order; they make thousands of copies at a time.

Yeah figure collecting can definitely be a shit show sometimes

Speaking of which, I preordered the Action Force Swarm Trooper and Swarm pack back on 6/27/2020 through BBTS. The Action Force line is basically a 3rd Party making pseudo 6inch G.I. Joes (except they did actually get rights to make a Sgt. Slaughter figure)

The figures released everywhere else around Dec 2021 I believe, but BBTS kept pushing their date back. In May I got this update:
We know the highly anticipated Valaverse Action Force Wave 1 lineup continues to run much later than expected, so we would like to provide an update. Our container is still stuck in the container yard in California waiting for space on a train to complete the journey to our warehouse in Wisconsin. We understand the significant impact extended delays have on you and appreciate your continued patience and understanding. Transit times have been extended due to poor management by the freight line. Unfortunately, we have no control over it but are working diligently to get your items to you as quickly as possible. At this time, we are unable to provide an accurate arrival date, but we will send another update once we know our container is on rail and heading to our warehouse.

At this point, I feel like I'm probably never gonna see my order, and looking on eBay, aftermarket prices are insane, typically $100+ for them together. So I ended up buying the trooper and pack from a local guy for $70 total, which is definitely more than retail, but cheaper than I'll ever see anywhere else at this point

    So yeah, figure collecting

I finally got around to opening up some recent arrivals, starting with Goku!

    76ipm8pqrag7.jpeg

Despite having several Gokus already, I didn't have his regular base form, so I grabbed this release that came out for the new movie. He has a more muted color scheme than previous versions and some new face options, the best of which is probably the yelling face.

    5rh2pqjdptbc.jpeg

I also picked up Eternal Sailor Moon!

    hrvjd79j297i.jpeg

Her hair, wings, and stand all overlap, so it takes a bit of work to get everything in its place, but she does look very nice once arranged.

Ok, so I pulled out my Arcadia YF-19 after @Athenor posted photos of his. Plus two people mentioned issues with theirs (arms breaking off on one and rust on another). Luckily mine is fine (although I have some weaker ankles than I would like) and most of it isn't stiff like Athenor's was. I have never had a YF-19 before and bought this one since people recommended it and I really didn't feel like waiting for Bandai to re-release theirs. To be honest I never liked the YF-19 design and liked the cannon fodder 11 from the intro of the movie more. But this toy has made me love the 19 more and love how the newest VF-31 has some design similarities to it. The transformation is actually fun and simple once I watched a video on how to do it.

So took a quick photo of it. I can't wait to pull out the rest of the parts, gun, gap fillers, and figures to put into it.

Do you know what the release date on Bishoujo Optimus is?

Edit: Nvm, I figured it out, it's really as far out as January of next year?!

FYI, you know these figures aren't *really* $150 as long as you get them from a Japanese store, right? HobbyLink Japan has them both for ¥15,360 each, and they yen has been low against the dollar for a while, making that a "mere" $112, provided your credit card or bank doesn't fuck you on the exchange rate (Paypal always fucks you on the exchange rate, try not to buy from Japanese stores using Paypal if you can avoid it). No matter who they are, they usually make the exchange rate a little bit less favorable than the market, but even at a few cents more per dollar it's only $115 or $120. I suppose there's some gamble to this since who knows what the yen will be in January of 2023, but as someone who has been buying dolls in yen for years, the yen has rarely gotten more than 90 cents on the dollar since 2014. Which would be $138.

I mention this because I am tempted by Bishoujo Optimus and might preorder her. But Megatron looks like a fancy fascist so I say to her no.

Interesting on the conversion rates! I was going off the kotobukiya US price that they listed... Which doesn't include domestic shipping.

And yes, the facist symbology with megs definitely is contributing to giving me pause.

Mostly the uniform. The grays and military nature of it. It's not explicitly calling out any specific military (other than the Decepticons), but it's sort of like how when you see the Empire's uniforms from Star Wars, they were very clearly inspired from 1940s Axis powers.

Humph, I don't know if it's because I'm on mobile now, but Hobbylink Japan now shows a converted-to-dollar price of $130.

No matter, I immediately found another Japanese shop called Plaza Japan that has the statue for the even lower price of 15,242 yen. I'm probably going to preorder her today, she's too cute.

Edit: oof, Plaza Japan charges shipping, while Hobbylink doesn't. Guess I'm back on Hobbylink after all.

Edit again: yeah I pre-ordered her from Hobbylink. They didn't show a shipping fee, and claim that they will only charge me the 15,360 yen when the statue is released (it went back to yen when I searched the link through Google). Since they won't Charge it until January, I really don't know what the cost will be, but I think she's worth it, and as I said before the yen pretty much always remains low against the dollar, so I'm confident at getting her less than $150.

Even the ultra-straight haircut is a little fash. I don't know if that's because the Romulans use the bowl cut, or if Star Trek choose bowl cut for Romulans because it was already fash-coded.

Amiami generally has the lowest prices if you're ordering from Japan, but yeah, most places you won't know shipping until it's released and they send the final invoice. Not sure if you want to switch your preorder to maybe save a few yen, but here's a link for Optimus: https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-141944

The biggest advantage of HLJ is their private warehouse for combining orders to save on shipping costs. Hobby Search is a decent third option, though I haven't used them in a while.

The thing is, shipping on every other website either gives you an amount for shipping, or says "TBD", Hobbylink literally says the total you'll be charged is 15,360 yen. Maybe they're just designed poorly and meant to include a shipping price or a TBD for shipping but forgot, but it seems like they're saying they won't charge additional for shipping. Smart Doll is like that, in that if you purchase over a certain amount shipping is free.

That said, I did cancel my order at HL.com and go for Amiami instead, hoping that the lower price will cover the shipping cost. Still kind of a risk since I've never purchased there and don't know what their shipping prices will be, even though they let me select EMS (which is usually the cheapest from Japan).

I was curious about this so I went to check it out and I think what's happening at least when I try it is that HLJ automatically sets it so preorders go to the private warehouse option (which basically means they set one aside for you) and then you would have to pay the shipping cost whenever you request them to ship it out at a later date. So, yeah, it's not clear that you would eventually have to pay more to actually get it to you.

I'll be crossing my fingers that Amiami has the best price for you in the end! When you go to pay, they do show the cost of all shipping options regardless of which one you selected, so you can switch if another option turns out to be cheaper.

This is fair, it's like not buying a Vader figure because he's obviously Fash.

But I mean that's true for me, I don't buy characters like that for display. I don't purchase the bad guys, unless the bad guys have something really special about them that makes me want to have them on my shelf. And I know Vader (and Megatron) are iconic to the point that that makes them special, but it has to be something special to me personally, not just special in general.

I'm trying to think of an example of a villain I might want to collect. It's times like this I wish I could just google "list of my favorite series" so I can easily find a list of villains that I enjoyed enough to want to collect them. The first one that came to mind was Xellos from Slayers, but even though I did enjoy his character I can't see wanting to collect a Xellos figure, he just doesn't look that interesting.

Edit: Ok, I've thought of some "bad guys" I might want to collect, and those are the various antagonists from the Escaflowne TV series. Folken Fanel, Dilandau Albatau, Jajuka, and Eriya and Naria. Hell, even Emperor Dornkirk. But part of the reason I might like figures of these character is (Escaflowne spoilers)
All of the characters except Dornkirk are actually good people who are being manipulated by Dornkirk. And while Dornkirk actually is a piece of shit, he's also Sir Isaac Newton, and I would get a kick out of owning an anime figure of Isaac Newton.
