This is some grimy as fuck 90's style metalcore from Knocked Loose, singer reminds me of Jacob Bannon from Converge doing a cover of Snapcase, and the music is definitely more on that side of the metalcore divide (Along with Starkweather and Botch). There are some modern chug deathcore touches here and there.
Yeah, saw that earlier. Left us a pile of good albums, though, so all is well in the end.
I grabbed the limited edition pre-order for the new Necromantia, well worth it, from what I can tell in the States you can only get it at visionmerch.com.
It's good to know that U.D.O.'s still got it for his solo band...I thought that U.D.O & The Old Gang or whatever it was called with the other singers was a little weak. Anyway, most of Game Over is solid.
I have a feeling this album's gonna be sick, the sweeping epic black symphonic metal of the 90s...but unlike VARGRAV or WARMOON LORD, these guys hail from Colorado! Comes out next month.

Andrea Meyer, ex-wife of Samoth of Emperor, was killed in that murder spree in Norway last week. It was originally reported as a bow & arrow attack, but further reporting has said that the guy stabbed people to death.
I mainly knew of her because I own an album from her folk project Hagalaz' Runedance.
There's also a new Vanik release which is basically two EPs: the first being heavy/speed metal material like their albums, and the second Halloween sounds similar to that other side release they did a couple years ago. It's not free but it's good (especially the heavy tunes). Sadly no CD.

The Old Gang stuff is not good at all, the added female singer on that material is not for me at all. The tracks with Gravestone master Mathias Dieth have some leads that prove he's still got it, though. Really jealous of the people that get to go to the Keep It True, whenever it actually happens. The Gravestone and Tyrant reunions, to me is cool as hell.
Yeah, her voice just seems to grate up against Udo's rougher style.
Those sorts of 'supergroup' type things always have mixed results, Ayreon and Avantasia make a huge production out of it and generally stick the landing, but a lot of the lesser ones don't.
New Cradle of Filth is probably my favorite since Midian. Really well produced, a bit more memorable musicality than the previous couple albums although they've been on a roll for over a decade now.

Kerrang! review said the same. My CD showed up, just waiting on having time to listen to it. Yeah, they've been on a roll for a bit - the last two albums are already the strongest they've done since the heady days of Dusk..., Cruelty... and Midian, so looking forward to getting my teeth into it. I had a flick through the lyric sheet and Dani is not holding back.
The new Dream Theater album, A View From the Top of the World, seems pretty agreeable so far. DT are a band I feel like I should like a lot more than I do, maybe it's just that the constant complexity and ever-shifting nature of what they do just doesn't lodge itself in my brain or something, although of course their technical chops are unimpeachable. I haven't listened to them in years, but thought I'd have another shot. Anyway, yeah, this one seems good to me, for what it's worth!
And yeah, Cradle's Existence is Futile is awesome, and definitely continues their roll. Very different lyrical/subject approach than normal, hearing them comment on real-world, present-day concerns is a biig turnaround. "Suffer Our Dominion" is a real highlight in that regard. (And, earlier on in the album, rhyming "existential terror" with "pestilential errors" is just *chef kiss*)

Not sure if this fits into anyone else's "classics" but for me, Hypocrisy's The Fourth Dimension is one of my favorites by them and among the first CDs I bought with growled vocals. The others I can think of off the top of my head include Amorphis's Tales From the Thousand Lakes and My Dying Bride's Turn Loose the Swans.
Anyway, Hypocrisy posted that the album is 27 years old today and revealed that it's their bassist wrapped up in that chair on the cover:
I wasn't into the beats on the new Cult of Eibon, sadly, but I did like the evil ancient sound of the riffs and melodies. The Katavasia is very good. Yoth Iria and Necromantia are a league beyond almost everything, Greek or otherwise!
Yea, the best thing the Cult of Eibon has is that guitar tone. I'm a sucker for that sound though I'll admit that it doesn't hold a candle to the early Rotting Christ records.
Solid 7, enjoyed my listen to it but probably won't go out of my way to play it again
So Omnomnom Gathering announced a North America tour with Allegaeon and Black Crown Initiate in the new year. It's nice to see bands start touring again

I am flabbergasted that Coffinlord doesn't exist.

Edit: I picked up the EP. It's really good.
Anyone know if those Ghanaian pallbearers have access to a Marshall stack and an HM2 pedal?

Personally I was into Ruins of Man - He Brings the Omen. Sounds like off-brand Crypt Sermon.

Probably Domain for me. I always seem to pass them up when I'm in the power metal mood yet every time I listen to them, they kick my ass.
