I also played New Leaf every day for several years. If you won't be jarred by the "downgrade" in graphics compared to New Horizons, it's worth playing.
Some things are going to be frustrating coming from NH tho: Villagers move in willy-nilly anywhere they please, and you have no say about it. Most of the infrastructure (like bridges, Brewster's coffee shop, etc) are "public works," and they have to be requested by a villager before you can build them. At a random chance. Also, villagers can just... Move out without you knowing or allowing it. I cannot stress enough: talk to every villager every day.
Ah good advice, thanks! ^_^ Since I'll still be playing NH, I don't think I'll be too frustrated by any of that. Especially knowing it in advance, so I can adjust my expectations. Haha.
I've found a correlation between your visit & a some wonderful new flowers on my island @akjak ...
But I know correlation doesn't equal causation so I won't jump to conclusions : P
Yay for happy young'uns!

Octavian gave me his photo today!
I've also decided to put a little table outside each house in front of their house name plate and put their photos there so people can see them better than stuck in the back room of my house.
Only need Marshal, Coco, and Lucky now!
Once I get those, I think it will be time to start moving Frita in and have Elvis leave. Elvis is cool but I like Marshal better for some reason.
Renée was one of my first two Villagers. So I got kind of attached to her, you know? She's been with me and my island the whole time and didn't talk incessantly about sports.
But because Renée was one of my first two Villagers, she also got a really basic, generic house. So I finally allowed her to leave.
Today, I went out to Nook Mile Islands in search of a new inhabitant.
And on the very first island, I found Renée. The literal, actual, first island I went to.
Welcome back, Renée. You won't be allowed to leave a second time.
At a certain friendship level the villagers just need to ask us to redo their houses. Give me the ability to customize switch out all the original stuff with good stuff. That way we could fix those original houses. Or remove things like the random life raft that just showed up one day in their house and you know you didn't give it to them as a present.
Do you have to demolish their old house somehow? I had an original villager move out and Hornsby moved in to the same spot. The house somehow got worse.

Only those first few villagers have the generic houses. When they move out the house stays in the same location but when the new villager moves in the house will be their starting house. So if Hornsby's house look horrible, it's because he likes it that way.

No. The first five Villagers to move into your town all get basic, generic houses. Everybody who moves in after that gets their own, unique interior.
It's just that Hornsby's unique house interior happens to be... well... a dump.
A lot of these I could take or leave tbh, but I think the one I'd want the most is outdoor storage access. Having to trudge back home whenever a tool breaks just makes the experience worse than it already is. Although the "arrivals/departures" screen would also be spicy.
Maybe "Wave 3" will include Gardening Mode for the island designer that will let you pick up and stack whole flowers...
I just buy new tools from the Nooks whenever mine break now, it's not like I'm hurting for Bells and not needing to worry about storing materials and/or extra copies of tools is worth the cost

So yesterday I got Octavian's photo. Today I run up to Coco, my second newest villager, and she gives me her photo! Then I find Lucky, my newest villager and he gives me his photo too! WHAT? I have to track down Marshal who was hiding in Sterling house and he gave me...
a pacifier.
Still. Marshal is the last one so now I only need to make one lamp a day.
So if each villager has a hard storage limit, do they also have a specific set of items? So eventually you'd run them out of clothes and boring furniture and get the photo?

I don't think the gifts they give come from storage. I think they are just RNG pulled and once you get the friendship level to receive the photo it is just a % chance each day to get it as the gift.

I have a preference for the outdoorsy tool set, so I have those and I just try to remember to customize them before they break. Customizing a tool resets the number of uses it has.
Missed your awesome T&D @SilverWind due to puppy babysitting - will you be opening again on the weekend?
Hope you're still enjoying the new job : )
please don't feel any pressure to respond to our posts quickly, I'm guessing you have many other things on your plate!
I was looking for a new villager today. I decided to take the first villager that wasn't snooty or a jock. I noticed that people who are too picky can spend dozens of nook tickets and countless hours trying to get the cat with glasses or rabbit without eyes.
I passed up on Boots, Kevin, and Mathilda before winding up with Norma.
