You should be able to put a thin transparent ring around your champ at a distance you specify. I was just thinking how it would be nice to check range for things (Diana Q, Noc ult) but I have it on quickcast. It's not like this is information you can't have and would just be a nice QOL change.

glad to see rito still willing to throw in the big boi changes

It’s wild to me that a huge change like this isn’t happening during preseason. It’s going to be a monumental meta shift between spring and summer splits and I cannot wait.

In 2016 and 2017 they were doing a huge update at mid-season, though they said that was too much the next year and got away from it. To be fair, these included multiple champion updates for different classes (mages and tanks, respectively) and item reworks (and elemental drakes in 2016).

Also, we got this as a result in 2016:

It's not unprecedented, I guess is what I'm saying, though I recognize it's been a while. I like the idea, though: it gives each split its own identity.

    I'm so ready

I pretty much only play champions that will be more fun to play in a meta where squishies are harder to kill and sustained dps is more valuable.

(Wellllll arguably Jhin does not benefit from all of this since there's a way in which he's a little assassin-y, but other than that, I'm golden.)

Since preseason, or whenever you want to call it rolled out, it has been my least favorite time to play league since I started. Time to kill has been stupid. Playing tanks/building tanky has felt unrewarding. I am all for them shaking things up multiple times a year. So long as there’s no obviously broken champions like Kass a few years ago where red side was forced to burn a ban everytime. Or items like ardent that warp things profoundly, I am down for the shake up.

i legit quit playing league earlier this season because i was tired of every fight being over in a 10th of a second because one person got hit by one ability and exploded into a fine mist

so yea, i'm happy they're making these changes and hopefully they bring some fun to low elo again because it has sucked just so bad

As long as you're not downlevel as well as down items it's not *the* worst--and I had Lucian with me, so I fortunately didn't have to provide most of the dps or anything. But yeah I had this feeling that otherwise I just wasn't going to be able to live to contribute. I think I'm also now done with my tanky Zyra build because it's too crucial, in these no tank games, to just shit out as much damage as possible so you take them down with you when you die--it's been back to Liandry's for me.

Also I am now back in gold 2 with a little LP buffer. Just won 4 games in a row (Karma, Nami, Zyra, Leona) and I'm afraid to queue more today because if I lose now it'll be extra sad. Nami's feeling very good for me right now and I ks shamelessly on her even though I just build items that don't really do anything. People seem not to expect this Nami to come chasing after them splashing autos, but it does nonzero damage so I do it!

    Pyke.

I'm super not into Pyke, honestly (I mean I love his visual design and theme but I'm not into playing him or having him on my team). Obviously a well-played Pyke can get scary, but in lane he doesn't really provide the consistent pressure I want--the only way I personally can ever guarantee anything with him is a flash stun; otherwise it's just me winding up his hook and missing.

I'd rather play Leona and have a 90% guaranteed stun up every 10 seconds. Like there is a world in which I play 30 games of Pyke and get good at the long windup hook, but I'd rather actually be a body/tank rather than an assassin who has to dip in and out of combat. When I play support, I am looking to fill a particular role on my team, and it's really infrequent that my team needs another inconsistent AD assassin.

Even if you aren't landing the hooks, the threat of the hook is often enough to bully the enemy bot lane. Plus you can provide very early, very easy roaming assists.

No I'm pretty sure they'd still complain about the KS. I had an amazing Nocturne game that the Heimerdinger decided to run it down after I did an amazingly well timed countergank to save his life. So instead of dying (AGAIN), I got the double kill.

He then proceeded to blame me for ruining any chance he had of coming back into the game (the enemy Swain was now 1/1/1 after two ganks on Heimer) because I KS'd him and then ran it down mid and bot. I was like 5/0/3 or something and he just threw away the entire game.

So after that I'm pretty convinced there's nothing you can do about some people.

I don’t feel threatened by a Pyke who doesn’t land hooks—a Pyke can be one of the lowest pressure supports imo. Just walk up and auto him out of lane. I don’t wanna be that Pyke! (see also, a Morgana without a good binding accuracy, which is why I am banned from playing Morgana in 2022 soloq, because it’s just horrible to feel like I have no pressure/presence in lane)

I am not as impactful of a roaming support as I could be—dunno, really depends on the game situation. I’d say I probably often make one big mid roam during lane, and then of course I’m in the river all the time. I am generally not repeat ganking mid unless the game has a particular flow to it. And I’m pretty much never running top before lvl 8-9 unless something’s unusual about the gamestate. I’m really more dedicated to lane dominance. (and again, my pyke roams would be of the mortifying variety where you run mid, miss a skillshot, and leave, tail between your legs.)(it seems like I am very concerned about avoiding embarrassment in LoL, which is kind of silly, but that’s where I’m at)

Challenges really seem to have brought people out to play, for whatever reason.

On Challenges: I don't really understand what's happening at this point (probably not really a fan of them), but at least they're not trying to hard monetize them this go-around. I don't have a title available for me yet after playing...4 games tonight? I don't know if I should or not, to be fair.

On popularity: but it is fun to queue with large groups of people (and especially when you win a couple of Flex games in the process). Servers were prone to lag spikes, though--I'm sure anyone who played tonight noticed.

Challenges seem like a much better implemented version of whatever the fuck they were trying to do with eternals (eternals are totally pointless/unappealing imo)

I think there is something fundamentally appealing about having all these different achievements tracked with every game--but not so appealing that it makes me change my gameplay or even really go through them and figure out what's happening. However I believe the basic concept is, hey, you're hardstuck silver? Don't worry, you can be a master tier chroma collector! Basically, providing different niche goals that can feel like achievements to players who have plateaued.

And I appreciate that it's just meant to increase engagement (which will result in more revenue) rather than directly trying to generate revenue.

The client update bugged my client, though, such that I can't in champ select click on the support tab to filter champs by support role--or rather I can and it's blank. And once I've done that I can't get back to the full list of champs. So I found myself in a couple games where I could only play mid champions as support (which is not a problem because Lux, but was kind of silly.)

Yeah, this is a much better approach than Eternals, and I'm not unhappy about more things to engage. First game we took three Barons and got a challenge completed for that--that's pretty cool! But it seems buggy in launch / implementation, too? Like the collecting things--I saw a friend who had something for collecting mythic skins, and I'd assume I'd be at like Iron tier at least for that (15/85), but I can't figure out where that would be for me.

It's also possible that the problem is that the interface is incredibly complex. There are so many groups of different things that seem to overlap / be connected, but you can't search for all of them and/or they're in different places--just scanning it, the categories don't seem consistent in my profile v. what I can access in the Customize Identity? I am not going to be able to bothered to go through it with a fine-toothed comb and figure that out. Maybe that's an intentional part of it: make it so dense that it doesn't affect what people are trying to do in the game...but then the achievements don't necessarily feel all that meaningful. (Also I screwed up an achievement last night by not dropping Herald immediately so we'd get credit for dancing with it when they surrendered, so already feeling the pressure there. 0:-) )

Overall, though, yes, it's just better Eternals--less champion-specific and more player-focused, which in a game with this many champions is probably a good choice. And thankfully not stupidly monetized: glad Riot's learned that lesson a little bit.

Although I feel like it's the reason for all the client and lag issues, so who knows.
These are my most played champs of the year, I'm a little surprised by the peaks and valleys. Particularly how low my zac winrate is given how much of a reputation I've developed on him for being an absolute monster and star of the show.

So my win rate has fallen a bit, I think some of that is just bad luck, and also I’ve started playing more with a friend which has been cool but a bit of an adjustment. Duo queue isn’t really just an automatic lift, just because yeah you can coordinate but also sometimes we talk about other shit so you can get distracted. There was also a bit of learning how to play together just in general.

I also noticed that my win rate with Diana has come down from high 60 to low 50%, which is kind of exactly what happened with Nocturne and now I’m wondering if this is something systemic with me. Maybe as soon as I feel like I have a good handle on the champ I just go on autopilot too much compared to when I’m really trying to get dialed in before I get comfortable.

The nice thing about losing a bunch of LP is when I was getting close to promos I got pretty nervous and it was more stressful. Now it’s more of a well, time to get to work mentality.

In fun news, I got my first ever pentakill the other day with my Diana. My duo friend also got a pentakill in the same game and I said we should retire. We’ll basically never have a combined game that good.

So I'll generally defer to the general knowledgebase bc like, most of the time in a game like this if everyone is doing one thing it's probably the most optimal on average in most scenarios.

But boy am I looking hard at Morde runes. I get why conqueror functions well within his kit, as he needs to hit three things to get his passive active anyway and since he's just a big ol' stat stick the extra AP conq gives is real.

But maaaaaaaaaaan the rest of the yellow tree is GARBAGE on him. Triumph is solid in ARAM, but seems like it'd do virtually nothing in SR? Maybe it saves you in one teamfight? Which is really low value for an entire rune slot. Overheal is obviously garbage, and Presence of Mind is great but he's manaless so that's not an option.

The legend cycle is, fine. Tenacity is handy for minimizing getting kited, yeah sure. Just not terribly impactful since you're getting what, 15% at most and it takes a while to get there? Same with the attack speed, it's handy but you're barely getting more than the attack speed stat rune at full stacks.

And the last tier just horribly underperforms no matter what I take on any which champion. All each does is more damage conditionally, with pretty awkward or niche conditions. They significantly underperform like, Scorch, in pure damage.

Seems like you're giving up a ton of power in the rest of your runes to take conq, basically. Meanwhile you could go green-blue to get 1. grasp, which is diet conqueror, 2. all of shield bash, bone plating, and revitalize, to maximize the power of his shielding and healing, 3. transcendence bc CDR on manaless champs is just incredibly good value.

And then you also get a choice of nimbus cloak for more chase potential, gathering storm for that extra oomph, or waterwalking for playing the map.

Hell, even phase rush w/ secondary green feels like it's solving more problems than conqueror is.

Unless you're challenger tier (and even then) it probably doesn't matter what you do as long as you're good at it.
