I can play this game with a 2.39 GHz cpu...right, right?
If it's dual core, then yeah no sweat. If not...uh...well, maybe?
EDIT: Well hmm. I just looked at the box, and the requirements there say it actually requires a dual core machine. So...yeah. Shankill, that may be your ultimate problem as well?

That's true, but I keep hearing about how other people are getting it to go just fine without, so I dunno.
I am getting a much, much lower performance on this than I feel I should be given many success stories of "subpar systems". I have dual 7900 Go GS cards, 2gb ram, 17gigs of open hard drive space and a 2.4gHz AMD Turion card which, while not dual-core, shouldn't matter because people keep talking about how they're maxing it out with systems right around mine. I have pretty much all the settings as low as they'll go except for resolution which is at 1280xw/e. I've played one perfectly fine game so far, and it was the bot game after the troll training mission. Even other bot games are unplayable.
By unplayable you just mean framerate right? That's a little strange, though keep in mind that when I personally said I max it out on my 2.13Ghz Core 2 Duo, that the Core 2 architecture is more efficient than the Turion. Plus the back of the box does say they recommend a dual core machine, for what it's worth. How bad is the framerate?
Literally, completely unplayable. If I had to guess, i'd say somewhere between 2 and 4. Maybe...3? It's just horrendous.
Of course, I'm also getting a really low performance score. 1. That's not right at all. When I try to update that, I get an error, which I can only assume has something to do with the unofficial drivers I got from driversvideo2 or something like that. Do you think it could change muchmuchmuch if I got the official drivers from Alienware?
Wow okay yeah that's probably a much lower framerate than it should be at. In that case, yeah, I'd definitely suggest updating your drivers. It couldn't hurt, and the worst you'll be out is a little time.
if he's getting a performance score of 1 its definately not the games fault, the lowest i've seen is 2 and that was on an ancient dell with a 1ghz processor and incredibly crap integrated graphics
This game temps me, if only it hadn't been $60 I would have bought it. If I bought it I wouldn't have rented Forza 2. If I hadn't have rented Forza 2 the wife wouldn't have played it. If she hadn't have played it we wouldn't have gone out and bought the MS wheel. So, you see, by being too cheap to spend an extra $10 I some how ended up spending an extra $190. <sigh>
So yeah, now I'm really tempted to pick this game up now despite the small fortune it would cost me (I don't own Vista and I don't have a Gold Live account).
From the way PC players are talking, unless you have one hell of a rig all ready, it would probably be cheaper to pick up a 360.
Oh, I already own a 360, it's just that I'd need to upgrade my Silver account to a Gold account since a multiplayer only game minus the multiplayer seems pretty pointless. Maybe I'll just stop by a Blockbuster & give it a rent since I still have a 1-month Gold card leftover from when Microsoft fixed my console.

Too bad you can't stack those free live cards. SR gives you a month, and I think just about everyother major release gives you at least a couple of days.
Oddly enough I can play games on my PC like Splinter Cell Double Agent which also requires dual core 3.0 ghz processors but they had a demo out so purchasing that wasn't a financial risk unlike this is.
Edit: I also get the 1.0 rating from Vista. It gives me X1950 GT a 1.0 rating so I'm pretty sure it is an error.

Oh, no, I'm sure it's an error, I just want to know how to fix it.
I'm thinking it's the drivers, ATI still has failed to produce a quality driver for my graphic card for vista; but luckily the people at Omega Drivers are to be releasing vista drivers in the near future
Yeah if you're getting a one out of that video card, it's got to be drivers.
EDIT: Or some weird Vista error.
I haven't had a chance to play Shadowrun for a day or two, been busy working and playing other games like Forza and Halo 2. Curse this weirdly active time of the year!

I enjoy this game, but dear gods can it be frustrating when you're tossed onto a team that won't communicate and goes idiotic buying orders (Oh look, I'm on a team with 7 elves, and five of them bought smart link round 1...)
I've got to admit I'm having a great time playing Shadowrun. Is it perfect? No. But the majority of the matches I've played have a hilarious/frantic pattern. You can't get lazy and camp the same spot otherwise WHAM! Teleporting shotgun in the face! I'm almost at 25/50 for the achievements and I'm just having a ton of fun blasting with OR through my friends.

Yeah. Being on a bad team is really aggravating. I know I'm not the best player out there, but Shadowrun freakin requires teamwork. Very rarely will I (or anyone) survive on their own, especially since I like to play elf. Yet, the main cause of death for me is when my team mates, who I expected to be behind me, just bail out and go out on their own.
I mean, if there are two people next to me, and we see two enemies holed up in a hallway, don't puss out. Engage. 3 vs 2 = Good odds. Don't run off after I charge in.
I also see too many people leaving a fire fight to pick up a weapon. Chances are, your buddies are now dead and the baddies are comin right behind you, jerk. What are you gonna do with that sword now?
So, to play with the PA crowd, do I need to add you guys to my friend list as well? I know jack about Live, and always just jump into random games, never organized ones.
EDIT
How do you get the Shadowrun Fever achievement? You have to squat on someone that already has it, but how do they have it to begin with?

Also, has anyone noticed this? I've noticed that on each map, I generally play the same side. I don't think I've ever played RNA on Temple Grounds, and I've only played RNA once on the Power Station, and I'm sure I'm nearing 100 games.

Keep it. After awhile you'll see less and less Elf Ninjas. Alot of Elf Ninjas are people who just got the game, after they a few games they'll get it out of tier system and swap up on races. I'm guilty I did the same things.
Anyway. Pack GUST. It stops Ninja/Smokes users dead. plus it has several other handy uses.

Yeah, adding everyone to your friend list is probably the best way. There are two types of 'parties'. Public and Private. Private are invite only so whoever start it has to send you an invite. Public parties are pretty neat. When you browse your friends list, if someone is in a public party, there's a little arrow pointing next to the word "Shadowrun". If you select this player, you'll get the option to "Join In" on their current session.

Yup, teabagging achievement. The developers gave themselves the original fever and it spread from there. I just got it last night from teabagging a Troll. It itches, slightly.

That's when you do what I do Klyka. If I suck at a shooting game (which can happen) I move to a support role. Ditch the grenades and load up on the spells and play support.
Plant a damn grove, make a crystal farm, do whatever. You don't need to actively engage the targets.
Hell, I might end up doing this myself.

Well, it's not really "sucking". It's more like not being able to kill people.
If theirs a guy with his back to me just standing in front of me (happened about 3 times) and i walk up to him with a shotgun and shoot him 3 in the back. Perfect hits. Why can he turn around and kill me in a nanosecond?
He should be dead.
I WOULD be dead with the FIRST shot if our roles were switched.
And no he wasn't a troll. Or a dwarf.
I never have problems with internet play on the pc. never.
On xbox live, the only game I'm able to kill people in is Vegas. In all other games I can empty entire clips into them not missing one bullet. I will die. In less than a second.

I really suck at this game, and really don't know how to play it very well, but for some reason I love it.
Also, are private games easier to get started than public ones? I hate the fact that 20 minutes of every game is devoted to "searching".
So considering I like to run and gun, what would be a good build for me?
Minigun wielding Trogg with Smartlink and........ the big 3 spells (port, Tree, Rez)?
Be really really careful with Smartlink. I'm trying to train myself not to use it, and use a bit of restraint. Basically, the laser will give you away every time. I used to pack enhanced vision from time to time, but with as many people using Smartlink, I don't have to. I'll always know where you are, and especially where you are going.
So, just a tip, turn that shit off if you are not in battle.
Well, it's not really "sucking". It's more like not being able to kill people.
How many kills do you usually get per game? I have yet to see someone break 20 kills in a game. I average around 8 or 9.
i wasn't totally sold on buying this, but i said "fuck it" and got it anyway. and i'm really glad i did. i like how the different tech/magic loadouts cause a nice amount of "counters" to enemy tactics. i kinda wish you lost your tech (or some of it) when you died, to put a little more emphasis on not dying in the first place (like counter-strike). but overall i'm having a lot of fun.
gamertag: krylon666 - add me, i'm down to play tonight or any night.

Private games are just games that only friends can join. You can set up bots though.
Which speaking of which, it's surprising how fun playing agaisnt bots can be. Two of my friends bought this game, and to get them used to it, we played a couple of matches were it was us three agaisnt bots. And we had alot of fun, the bots keeping even me on my toes.

i guess my usual kill count is 5. sometimes higher, sometimes lower.
what pisses me off is just the fact that I have to treat EVERY enemy I see, even people with their backs to me, as fatal encounters. It's the same as in other xbox games.Halo2,Halo3,Gears of War,GRAW 1+2, it doesn't matter. they are somehow more resistant to fire than I am and dish out more damage than i could ever hope to do.the only game where this doesn't happen is vegas.
On the pc, I see an enemy as a target and I know that I can kill him. On my console, I know i'll be dead whenever an enemy sees me. And not because of not hitting them or not being able to play with a controller but just because it seems like my bullets do nothing. or less than nothing.
So, I finally played the game last night. It's fun, but good lord is it hard. I am by no means a console FPS master, but I've put enough hours into games like Vegas and the HL3 Beta, that I don't consider myself a n00b either. With every FPS, there's the typical learning curve of learning the map and the weapons. Slapping on all of the new tech, magic, and control scheme, on top of all that = huge learning curve.
I think I'm getting a hang for the tech/magic, but my biggest problem right now is figuring out a consistent mapping for the tech/magic. Do you guys have any recommendations? For example, do you always put Teleport on a certain button, or do you just somehow remember which buttons happens to map to what, even in the heat of the moment? There have been countless times where I meant to Resurrect but instead threw a grenade. (Owwie)
Personally, I think this point made on Ars Technica sums up my feelings:
Shadowrun wasn't just a title of a series, it was a word assosiated with a concept that was central with the IP. So I will pose just two questions to you.
Based on the Shadowrun FPS, answer the following:
What is a Shadowrun?
What is a Shadowrunner?
If you cannot answer either question, based on the FPS, then you might start to get the idea of why people say that the game is nowhere near the IP.

As someone who has never had a vested interest in the Shadowrun IP, perhaps I've got the privledge of not caring about that stuff. But I have to say, the game stands damned well on its own, regardless of what it 'should have been', or anything like that.
I mean, really, it's just fun. Even botmatches are surprisingly engaging.
is anyone trying to pretend this game has anything to do with the IP? just get over that fact and try to play it as a cyberpunk FPS (influenced by the SR world), and it does just fine. i'm a huge SR fan and i'm just as bummed as anyone else that this game wasn't some sort of RPG - but that doesn't have to get in the way of trying a new game thats actually fun.

Nobody's saying the game isn't fun. Quite the contrary. My only problem is that they made a fun game with the word "Shadowrun" on the box, instead of making a fun Shadowrun game.
Well that, and the fact that they didn't bother to make the weapon models look like their Shadowrun counterparts. Unforgivable.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. It's a game that doesn't attempt to do anything with the license, and uses the name simply as a basis.
I mean, it pretty much comes off as a slightly less cohesive Mario Kart. Mario Kart could have easily been done without using the Mario Brothers universe, and the game plays nothing like the traditional Mario Brothers games, but Mario Kart uses the Mario Brothers setting and items to bolster it's own gameplay and give it a unique identity.
At least, that's how I see it.
I don't really care. It's fun as hell, and I really dig the table top game.
but that is rather flimsy reasoning.
The people who care about Shadowrun already know the answer to those questions anyway. Shadowrun 360 could even be a springboard for those unfamiliar with the license and encourage them to check out the games real history.
