The servers are deteriorating rapidly, the lag is getting worse upon worse. Three games entered, three server crashes dumping everyone. I am so incredibly glad I only rented this game. It was fun, but it is rapidly turning into a brick.

You forgot the [space]v2 on my tag. And while I am playing this, don't expect me to join in as my connection is really shitty.
I think the $60 is the hard part for people to swallow. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's demo but probably still wouldn't grab this one until it's tossed through the discount bins a few times. Unless I am blow away tomorrow. Then who knows?
What I'm saying is: Why isn't a multi-player only game worth 60$? Or rather: Why is a single player game worth 60$ but a multi-player one isn't? I would rather have a multi-player game. Obviously, something like Gears of War is the ideal product -- good on both halves -- but Shadowrun isn't the first game to only offer 1/2 of this equation.
I think it's hard to swallow because Gears of War and the upcoming Halo 3 not only have complete single player campaign modes along with fully-featured multiplayer modes, but they have more maps and more modes than a game that is multiplayer-only. Not to mention the game is missing stat tracking and leaderboards, something that would seem to be pretty important for a multiplayer-only game.
I don't doubt that to some people the investment is worth in terms of the enjoyment to money spent ratio, but I think in terms of the amount of content you're getting it's obviously a lot less.
Well, that was another fun night of Shadowrun. Sorry if I didn't accept any game invites, I was playing mostly with friends from work. It was a total blast. Even though many of them are sort of FPS/multiplayer noobs, we amazingly did well since we worked together as a team. (Go figure, since we also do that at work)
We also ran into a most obnoxious player. I swear, this kid must have been 8 years old. At first, all he did was yell at his mom for trying to get him off the 360, and then the rest of the time he's just jibber jabberin. He was literally the first person I've ever muted on Live (I have a pretty thick skin, so most of the time I just don't care)
And the fact that the servers really do seem to be absolute shit.
At the beginning of the night, the servers were pretty crappy. Then all of a sudden everyone got kicked out. When we finally got everyone together again (and SR is pretty shitty at this, as it was rather buggy), the games were pretty lag free.
I wonder if most of the east coasters decided to stop playing or something. I should probably ask the Ops team whats up, since the guy who set up the dedicated servers is literally down the hall from me ...

I so love this game. Just had an awesome game against a team made up of mostly elfs and 1 troll and 1 dwarf in which i got the unstoppable achievement (though i swear ive killed 10 in a row before). First couple of rounds the elfs were pretty much winning easily though as soon as our team got all the stuff we needed we pretty much walked all over them.
And talking about elfs, i got my Elf Bane achievement 2 days ago and since them ive got both the kill 100 enemies with the shot gun and kill 100 with the minigun and must be close to killing 100 with the smg as its my weapon of choice now and i still havent got kill 100 of any of the other races achievement...
Fuckin' elves. I was getting chopped up by elves left and right last night. People are starting to get good with them. My prefered class is Troll (mainly because I like to use the class that is the lease played). Anyone have any good suggestions on how to stomp these elves other then catching them off guard with a shotgun or minigun? :x

Gust will throw them off of you
Yeah gust is a good option but you have really limited quick slots as a troll as you probably have smart link and grenades so i like to use teleport. If an elf gets the jump on you just teleport away, youll get far enough away to have enough time to kill them before they run to you. Teleport is useful too as its good in most situations, not just against elfs. Also try and keep your back againt something so they cant wound you, thats the most frequent way that they get me, if one comes straight at you and your a troll they have no chance.
Edit - oh and i found out why i didnt get unstoppable the first few times i got 10 in a row as theres a bug where when you die, even after you get your 10 kills it wont count it. So you have to get 10 kills and then not die for the rest of the match.

Yeah. I usually try to use gust and strangle. Only problem is that as soon as they know I'm on to them, they will teleport and run away. The cowards. I almost always have to catch them off guard now. Those ninjas are getting good.
Last night I was playin' with my headset off, and it was down to the wire. I get a res and then the guy who ressed me loses his resser and start bleeding out. I can hear him saying, through the TV, "Res me stuffwell, you gotta res me!" I'm a troll, he's a human.
We're the last two alive so I'm screaming at the TV that you can't ressurect your master. He bleeds to death and I'm able to throw down a tree. Someone tells him that I was unable to res him thank god, so it's just me and this RNA elf -- I'm bleedin' out. Got my team cheering me on.
This tree's not going to last. I pick up the dead guy's shotgun and load it up. The elf is just waiting for my tree to despawn and for me to die, so I decide I'm gonna bum rush him. I charge at him, myself bleeding to death. When your bleeding out it hurts. Not a whole lot of time so I gotta hit him quick. I come up this ramp and get in his face, *boom* chak chik *boom*
After what seems like an eternity of bleeding, I'm able to take him down and after the announcer proclaims our victory there is a moment of silence. Then all you hear is:
"Oh my god, stuffwell" (my gamertag)
"That was sick"
"So sick"

I know exactly what you mean. I'm a big lumbering troll, taking people out with my big ass gun ... only to get assassinated by a katana-wielding elf from behind. I got to be pretty paranoid towards the end of the night, constantly on the lookout. But it's hard when they can frickin teleport through walls.
Ultimately, I think the solution is teamwork. Trolls w/ miniguns are great at taking people out from long-to-mid range, but I find it really hard to take out any of the smaller races up close and personal. So, I have to find a buddy willing to keep me covered.
Anyone noticing how the "Rock, Paper, Scissors" aspect of the game appears to be working well? (Well at least this early into the game)
So far I have two builds that seem to work great for me and I am enjoying the hell out of this game. My only complaint is that some of the games go by insanely fast. Its just boom go games done sometimes.
But honestly, if I was in the fray, that does not even matter most of the time.
I dunno what it is, but my gameplay seems to seriously degenerate over time. At the beginning, everything is perfect, maybe a bit low of an FPS in the big melee brawls, but otherwise, fine. Four or five rounds in, it's just unplayable. Bot matches, online matches, it doesn't matter.
It seems to be kind of happening in Dwarf Fortress too, though. Which is a shame. Is there a memory leak in some program on my computer?

Yeah, my cat chewed through my headset so I have to play without it. Usually when I join games a few people remark about my gamertag "SHEEEEEEEP!" Two nights ago I had an amazing win.
Basically, it was me on my time versus a dwarf on the opposing time. I was RNA. Just us. All I had was a pistol. He shotgunned me a few times and I returned fire while getting out of his range, and he grabbed the talisman and started running a ladder. I hit Glide and slowly ascended to his level. Two shots to the back did him in.
For a whole minute it was "SHEEEEEEEP! SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! SHEEEEEEP IS AWESOME." I felt special.
And talking about elfs, i got my Elf Bane achievement 2 days ago and since them ive got both the kill 100 enemies with the shot gun and kill 100 with the minigun and must be close to killing 100 with the smg as its my weapon of choice now and i still havent got kill 100 of any of the other races achievement...
lol seems that there is no achievement for 100 SMG kills, i knew i has killed way more than 100 as it took me no where near as long to get the other two. I guess those are the only weapon achievements ill be getting for a while as pistol and grenades should come with time but im totally useless with the two rifles and the rocket launcher.
The demo comes out the 7th (which may be today depending on your location).
Also, good review from 1up is up. Opening paragraph pretty much sums it up:
First and foremost, Shadowrun is a game of ifs. If you can justify paying full price for a multiplayer-only game ($60 on 360, $50 on PC), if you have a Live gold subscription (360 requires it, PC only requires it to play cross-platform), if you can set aside preconceived notions about the pacing and complexity of first-person shooters, and if you can find a cooperative and communicative group of regulars to play with...you'll have a hell of a lot of fun.
Also, i played a few games of attrition today. I only played it probably once or twice before with a crappy team but i had a decent team just now and i have got to say it was awesomeness. It is so frantic as you cant clear bodies and if you pick up the artifact you can see where the enemies are like in enhanced vision, So it really brings out the team work aspect of the game.
Add another IF: If you can find a server without lag. Due to the fact that this game has no dedicated servers, good luck with that.
I ended up returning it early from my rental. Four games that took 20+ minutes each to find, all with unbearable lag that everyone in the game is reporting.
Man, I need to start using the shotty. I've been playing as a troll with a minigun, and on Poco (small) the round had just begun and an Elf with a shotty and I ran into a human. I enable SmartLink, start to spin up...and get a single bullet off before the Elf one-shots him.

Shotgun won't one shot someone. Either you were lagged and missed the second shot from the elf, or he had taken some form of damage.

Picked this up today, played all the training missions and some bot matches. It looks to be fun, but I can't seem to connect to online games, it just searches forever. Here's hoping this isn't a permanent issue for me, and it's just because of the time of day or something.

The really great thing is moment's like that happen all the time in this game. It's a team game yes, but it allows for many moments where you get to feel like a fucking hero, or that your team would have been screwed if not for your contributions.
And what's really awesome about it is that unlike most other games this DOESN'T encourage "lone wolf" activity because lone wolf's in Shadowrun die against an organized team. They die quickly.
So "I was the hero this round" type moments are all the more special and true because when they happen, they happen spontaneously.
Does anyone know if this uses a matchmaking system like Halo2? That could explain some of the early lagfests, sinc every time I've used matchmaking after clearing my cache, I have horrible games until the system can adjust.

I turned off all the match type specifics and connecting to a game did improve. Nothing drastic, but noticeable.
Also, not sure if it was just against the opponents I had, but I found a Troll, Smartlink, Tree, Reflexes, Minigun to be quite potent. Granted, Smartlink + Minigun is quite strong as is, but I found that reflexes and the dash quite useful for the slow moving troll to keep pace and hunt people down as they ran away in fear.

Nah. My network was fine. Only problem I had was getting pissed off at the 12 elves that were running around with swords chopping my ass up.
Servers weren't too bad for me either. Will be on later on tonight I'd imagine after the footy if anyone's about.
