I tend to favor that exact combo, only with glider instead of reflexes. I'm not going to beat around the bush; I'm not very good at this game yet, so add that to my lag and I get way too many friendly fire penalties if I use anything but a Katana without Smartlink.

This may be a little OT but can I make it so that voices come thru the headset and not my TV? I tend to play with the volume a bit low, so it's very hard to hear. Also, I'll be getting the demo, so if you see BlueDouble that's me.

I've been playing for a bit now, I rented it, and it's really good, it's really fun and deep and has some awesome levels, I love Lobby. It's just, I can't buy it: the random D/Cs, lag and other problems like that just kinda hinder the experience, if they patch it, then, it will be a definate purchase, but until then. I would say rent it only.

The server issues and random disconnects seem to be getting worse as days go by. Honestly, they weren't that bad at release but now 75% of my games suffer from some server/lag/disconnect issue.

Also, I've never, ever been able to join a friend in a game. I select the option to join the game in progress and nothing happens.

I have had no connection issues. I am not saying they don't exist but it is not hitting everyone and I don't think it is a case of bad code. If you cannot join a friend in game that means the game is full. Best thing to do is after the match have the friend/party you want to join jump back to the lobby and invite you to the party and then join a new match. We do it multiple times a night. We had a pa private match going for an hour or two tonight and it was genius. The game is absolutely brilliant. So many awesome moments in every single game.

Likewise. it seems to differ from person to person. I hit play and I'm in a game in 2 and a half minutes, tops. Much quicker than Halo 3 Beta matchmaking is for me. On the flip side, I've got a friend who only lives 3 streets away and is with the same ISP who can sit for 30 minutes unable to get a game, and when he does get one, disconnects.

    Weird.

Ok I just got this game tonight(<3 girlfriend) and my second match, right as it started, I accidently tossed a grenade killing two of my teammates. Interestingly enough they didn't kick me, they just thought I was foreign because I wasn't talking.

Then I ended up winning that round in a 1v1 face off with a guy from the other team. Teleported sideways through a wall and shot him in the back of the head with the shotgun.

Well, after putting a couple more hours in, I'm sure if I'm enjoying it quite so much. I've mostly been playing against bots in the only mode available in the demo and I find it quite irritating to play for several reasons.

    1. Death comes far too quickly. I can't tell you the number of times I got nailed to the wall 20 seconds in, only to never be resurrected. I understand why there's no respawn mechanic, but damn is it annoying to have your playing consist of staring at a screen hoping for a rez.

    2. Your teammates can be so unbelievably idiotic. I play rezzer/healer for my team but they always run to the top too quickly, never clear out corpses and sometimes take the artifact to strange places----once I saw someone carrying the artifact up and down stairs for like 3 minutes while I was sitting there dead.

    3. Being the defending team is extremely disadvantageous until you get Gust (if you could get the blocking defensive skill that would help) and it doesn't take much to just steamroll up to the top.

I'm going to try it some more, but the last couple of hours have been extremely frustrating. Some of it is because I suck, but some of it is the fact that your computer teammates who you're overly reliant upon in this matchtype are absolutely idiotic.

Stop judging it based on bots. The gameplay isn't about bots; it's about other players, who are usually good with resses and rarely do any of the things you outline in the second point. Put in that same two hours in online matches, then form an opinion, because if you're buying it, I really hope you're not buying it to play with bots.

Well, that's all I can play right now. My brother's account is Live Gold but it won't let me play online matches for one reason or another. Until I can fix this, bots are the only thing I can base it on.

Not to mention the fact that from my experience with online gaming, I'm bound to run into people even more stupid than the stupidest bots on my team.

Well it is a 99% multiplayer game. So don't expect awesome playing it solo. Also you are on the pa boards why the hell would you playing it with random people.

Just as an aside yes a lot of people online are shit heads. But I have played literally hundreds of games of gears with random ranked matches and they weren't that bad. No where near as fun as playing with pa peeps but not torture by any means. Don't be afraid to jump into random games they can be suprisingly fun.

Most people, myself included, don't have a system capable of running Vista smoothly along with the game. So, the choice is pretty straightforward.

Personally, I'm a PC shooter at heart, but I've gotten surprisingly used to console controls over the past year, so "settling" for the 360 version actually isn't bad at all.

Plus, I'm so beyond troubleshooting hardware/driver issues just to play a frickin' game.

I know it's mostly a multiplayer game, but sometimes I like the manageable and predictable difficulty level that bots provide. Most of my time with both UT2004 and Perfect Dark were with bots, and I got a great deal of enjoyment out of it.

Well, can you do anything but randoms in the demo? Since that's all I have at the moment. And honestly, it's been awhile since I've played any random online matches on Live (which is why my brother has an account and not me) but my main worry is not the random racist/sexist/idiotic banter, but trying to find multiplayer experiences that are challenging but not total wipeouts. I'm just not the kind of person willing to get reamed over and over---which is why I end up playing bots most of the time due to my skill level.

But anyways, I digress. Once I can get access to the 360 again I'll try and figure out why I couldn't get online before and try some random matches to see how I like it.

I'm running the vista version (playing it with a 360 pad though LOL) but honestly the 360 does have the huge advantage of not having to deal with piss poor vista drivers, poor keyboard/mouse support for shadowrun, and you don't have to swap from your pc to your 360 when you get invited to play a 360 game.

I also hear that there isn't a big difference in visual quality between them. PC has higher rez but 360 has ease of use and I think it supports motion blur (where as the pc does not).

If I had of known the mouse/keyboard feel was like Halo 2 Vista's from the start I would of went with the 360 version. The only upside is a lot of the crossplatform achievements are easier to get on Vista due to there being a hell of a lot more 360 players than Vista.

After playing the demo for a few hours I can definitely see the appeal the game has. It's a fast paced team shooter with interesting magic and races, and I'll for sure rent it, but honestly there's just not enough content to justify the 60$ price tag.

I meet the official recommended requirements and I don't imagine I'd have any problems but I also am a PC shooter at heart but I thoroughly enjoy GoldenEye/PD/Halo.

From the demo I kind of think I'd prefer to play this with a controller based upon how the game is played but I think I'll wait for an opportunity to play it on PC which I have no idea when will be. :/

It's out June 14 next week here so I could rent it on 360 and buy it for Vista, see which I prefer than if I prefer it on Vista, keep it or return it and get the 360 version.

    Quite a conundrum.

Also, anyone want to take a stab at guessing when this game will get a price drop ?

Well, I don't have figures I can cite, but based on our stock in our store and it's rankings on Amazon.com from the past few days (I check the Top Sellers most every day, it's a bizarre hobby of mine) it appears as if it's not doing spectacular but not doing so bad that an immediate price drop is warranted.

But, and I'm just guessing here, that Shadowrun may see a price drop either near the time or sometime after Halo 3 launches. Of course, even if this is the case, Halo 3 will also more than likely spell the death of the majority of the online play this game receives.

I just visited one of our Ops guys who was playing Shadowrun on Vista. (He was also the one who setup all the dedicated servers that we're playing on) OMG. Now, it makes me wish I could play it on there, simply because the keyboard/mouse controls looked so good to me again. I have another co-worker playing it on PC too, and he's having a blast. And yeah, the crossplatform achievements were much easier for him.

Man, I really need a new computer.

Yeah, I got some quality MP time in last night and I have to agree. I really quite like it now that I've gotten to the meat of it. But cripes, there's mods I can get for free that give me more content at comparable quality.

That's normal. It takes a long time to connect. Actually, it seems to be getting worse as days go by.

If I had of known the mouse/keyboard feel was like Halo 2 Vista's from the start I would of went with the 360 version. The only upside is a lot of the crossplatform achievements are easier to get on Vista due to there being a hell of a lot more 360 players than Vista.
Wait, so Shadowrun feels like Halo2 for Vista ? Because I have that installed but I just haven't played it yet, I better give it a go.

    squirly on
