yeah Coco is a native or near-native English speaker (she mostly sounds native, but once in a while she'll say something that has a hint of a non-native or at least secondary accent, though I've never been able to place it)
The quick lowdown on Coco:
She's a girl from Georgia who at some point lived in japan when she was a kid cause her dad was working there
Became big in to cosplay as a teen, and started uploading videos to niconico
Her videos of her playing through Siren games went super duper viral and she leveraged that in to working with hololive, as far as I can tell
I looked around on the hololive subreddit a bit yesterday, and it looks like some people were guessing who Cali was based on her voice... but the posts were deleted by moderators. I guess the policy over there is to not discuss who the actors/actresses are? Which is kind of a bummer! I know there's the whole illusion thing to vtubers / idols, but I personally would love to acknowledge and celebrate them too as much as the artists/modellers.
It's the whole Myung / Sharon Apple thing. ... You know, hopefully without the deadly AI and superfortress elements.
You have to remember that we are not a month removed from a hololive vtuber being forced to retire because of real life harassment over a minor mistake

Oh. Fuck. I had no clue.
I forgot, the internet is horrible.
Yeah the hololive subreddit generally is very protective and positive but Idol Culture and Streamer culture both over toxic waste dumps in their fandom so I respect the efforts to protect the talent's privacy. They are very hard-working and are putting out a lot of good and varied content as well as fostering generally fun communities which in itself enrages the dark part of the internet's collective id.
I just hope they getting properly compensated and support by their management and shit like the Mano Aloe situation can be avoided.

Now that I have a new outlet for it I must make a post about Hana Macchia
She was born and raised in the US of A but moved to Indonesia for college/because her dad took a job there for a while. She's trilingual, speaking Japanese, Indonesian, and English fluently (with occasional Spanish slang thrown in for good measure) and while I tend to stick her primarily-English streams it is genuinely fascinating listening to her slip into and out of different languages, complete with accents, intonations, and modes of speech
She's been doing this for around a year now, and has settled into a much more casual and conversational personality, which leads to things like her doing a reaction video of her first stream and cringing so hard she pops a vertebrae
And also getting really mad playing Dark Souls for the first time (but getting hooked on it and returning to it later anyway, because of course she did)
That video also highlights something that truly sets Hana's streams apart, beyond her use of language and sense of humor: her actual dad joins her on stream sometimes, bringing a very chaotic dad energy to the proceedings, occasionally cursing her stream and roasting her in front of thousands

"I'm a rhythm gamer!! ... I can only press two buttons"
She did incredibly well! Like I've never had that feeling of "I'll defend someone with my life" but if anyone is mean to her....
She also seemed to be having fun. Just needs to figure out more of the game, which is hard to do with the pressure of 40,000 people watching your second stream.

Yeah, people kept spamming in chat that she needed to save, but do you even need to manually save in that game? That'd be pretty out of character with 90% of open world games out there... And if they're wrong, why are you spamming gameplay tips you just thought up without knowing anything about the game? Obnoxious as heck.

yeah the backseat gaming was getting pretty annoying by the end there
just let people play the game! it's not the end of the world if they don't do everything exactly the way you want them to

Speaking of Hana, she has a pretty smart rule to not offer her advice at all unless she specifically asks for it. Of course some people will break the rules, but it's better to have a blanket rule like that then have the chat just screaming wrong advice because they saw some idiot post it.
I think part of it was that she was asking for a lot of help at the start and that made is so people would just supply it as soon as it seemed she needed it and then it went from there

Mio gets it, this is the exact reason I've been listening to Fubuki play Apex Legends. (And sometimes it IS actually clear what she's talking about, from the context)

One of my favorite things recently was a compilation of Aqua playing Mario Maker 2 trying to make it to S-Rank. The video is a mix of montages and long-form segments of entire stages (limited editing for time's sake for those).

Coco freaking the hell out about Kazuma Kiryu is the most I've ever related to a vtuber.
Both hololive id and nijisanji id falling in to an ffxiv shaped hole is very funny
Nijisanji ID also celebrated its 1 year anniveraay today, with a special stream, an original song and an announcement of 5th gen!

Falls for someone telling her to use grenades against Revolver Ocelot.
