I had two characters in my party that each had 1 in scavenge. So I guess if you want to be sure to get the item you need more than 1 point.

It feels like the game isn't giving me the tools I need to map out B13F and B14F.
Should I just mark off water as walls? Are lilly pads warps?

One-way doors don't seem like they would be that bad, you can just use a normal door but wall off the side that you can't enter.
There's a way to map every level in the game, though some are frustrating.
Everywhere you can walk, do as normal, walling off the water. Lilypads are Es (or whatever, I guess), it's important to mark them because sometimes there isn't one to take you back where you came from. With the exception of one lilypad, all of them take you in a straight path...I just drew a "track" of walls from the start point to the endpoint without filling in the floor.
I marked my lilipads as warp points, figuring that they take you elsewhere. I started to map what paths they went on with wall drawings, but then I realized I would end up cluttering my map for no reason - all warps except for two of them go in straight lines. They two that don't just lead back and forth to each other, and are connected to the piece of land you're on coming down from the floor above.

    Yes.
Don't read this spoiler unless you feel like breaking your personal economy in the game. :P
B21F. Get four or five Survivalists with 10 points in Mine. Clear your inventory. Buy a Warp Wire. You should be able to Mine a max of 99 times/day. Go to the 5th Stratum geomagnetic warp point. Open the door, walk west four squares, open the northern door, walk north one square, and mine 'till your inventory is full. Warp back home, dump it all at Shilleka's Goods. Buy another Warp Wire. Go back and Mine again until you reach your daily limit. Warp back. Dump goods. Mind you, Warp Wires are essential. With a low level gathering party, you're not going to survive random battles unless you're lucky enough to escape them, and you will DEFINITELY get into an encounter on the walk back to the warp point, despite it being seven steps away. So, just warp back to town with a wire.

Congratulations. You have anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 more Ental than before, with about two minutes worth of work.

Other spots include the B1F Chop Point which yield around 600 ental per trip, I think, or B6F where the Mine Point in D2 (lower left of the map) which yields about 4,000 to 6,000 per trip, or about 10,000 per day (two trips). The Mine Point in A6 also yields a good amount and is easier/faster to get to, but yields about 2,000 less ental due to having Fossils instead of Whitestones, which are worth 55 ental. Whitestones are worth 100 ental. D2 is better than A6. I farmed for the Meteor Axe on B6F. It's best to wait until you get to B21F, though, unless you REALLY really have to. And if you want a quick way to level up four or five survivalists to level 10+, to get those points in Mine, either use the treefrog method on B11F, or take a high level character and slaughter Fenrir with a newbie survivalist or two in toe. Treefrog method is probably quicker.

Hey wait. I didn't get the special drop I was expecting from this battle:
Alraune (B7F BOSS) - Velvet (Kill without using Fire attacks)

What gives? Is that just inaccurate information? I made this fight soooooo much harder on myself by trying for the special drop

all it means when it says kill something by x is that the final hit must be or must not be of that type. It does not guarantee that you get the item.

Fulfilling the condition simply replaces the normal potential drop with the rare potential drop, but it's still potential in either case, and bosses still may not drop anything.

There are some exceptions. Some bosses and FOEs seem to drop something almost every time.

does anything in-game ever remember/make it apparent what is needed to open up each skill? because when I retire characters later on I'd still rather not have to look at gamefaqs or anything to know what to do.

probably going to reset everyone the minute they hit thirty, I have terrible instincts when it comes to stat point related games. (the reset where they drop 10 levels)

damn I'm tempted to just start over right now rather then get very far and essentially restart anyway. I only have 3 or so hours in anyway, and now actually knowing what I'm doing would be great... going swords instead of whips seems possibly the right way to go, for example, though I'm glad I did poisons on my alch.

I'll use it during an FOE fight if my Protector can take the hit and someone else is low on HP, but there's a large luck factor involved. I wouldn't use it unless your Prot doesn't have anything better to use (like mine, who has tons of TP she doesn't need).

probably not really, but once that's on the table, the idea of pretending I can raise them perfectly seems fairly ridiculous.

he is the one dude who is rarely in need of tp. I'd say he was laregly useless but when he does get hit it doesnt hurt much and there is always the block the back row move which is hard to replace. I think not giving him the ability to be a hate magnet is one of the games few flaws. One I can live with. I picked the old knightly looking dude as my Protector's avatar and its my favorite of the whole bunch. the avatar not the job.

The Protector is essential later in the game, and is pretty much the one class that keeps running out of TP. Big strategy spoilers for later:
Anticold, Antifire, and Antivolt become essential in the post game. You can do without, but it's very hard to, and you're basically going to be bringing a Protector along for boss battles doing nothing but spamming these skills every single turn.

Also, Smite is really useful early on in the game, but eats up massive TP as well. 12 TP a shot, I think, at L10.

not really. but in a few levels you will eat them for fun. I beat Fenrir before I ever took on a stalker. There drops (Sythe) is worth a lot of cash at our lvl and opens up some decent gear.

I have (had? been skipping the B6F FOES ever since I found the shortcut to B7F) the opposite problem. A Moa-bird is easily dispatched with judicious use of Salve, but if a Cutter stops screaming and hits somebody it can be an instant death. Meanies, and they look creepy, too.

And yup! Thanks, though. I just sunk a single point into Take, Mine, and Chop now, and have been putting my 2 uses per day to good use. I unlocked a 2k armor for my Medic and Alchemist that has more Defense than the armor on my Protector. o.0

Yeah, Moa's are rough at first.

    This is what I do:

    *FIGHT BEGINS*

    Protector casts Defender.
    Medic casts Salve.
    Landsnecht uses Crush.
    Alchemist uses Flame.
    Survivalist uses Multi-hit.

After first round, my protector goes to attacking normally, and the other guys just rinse and repeat. Then it shouldn't be too hard.

Yes. I think Stalkers are physical resistant. My team is LSP/TM and they had a hell of a time taking down a Stalker because they just weren't doing that much damage. He wasn't even that tough because he didn't do much damage to us either. It just took lots of turns.

Well, I finally got the purple key. I headed straight for the shiny door of mystery down on on 11.
Fuck me what a ridiculous pain sandwich.

So I go through the section on 11 with all its twists and turns and plentiful dead ends. I find the stairs up to 10. Straight shot to the stairs on 9. Okay.

9 runs you trough a FOE gauntlet of Moas. Okay. Moas aren't so tough any more. I can handle this. Stairs up to 8.

Another FOE gauntlet of boss crab after boss crab. Not so tough, but physical damage resistant, so it eats up the TP. Finally, stairs up to 7. I know there's something on 7 because I marked the other side of the secret door on 7 ages ago.

What the fuck is this? 50+ winding steps of painground, or whatever you call the turf that damages your whole party. Step after step of pain with flocks of 4x physical damage resistant Swordfish showing up to soak up more of the TP needed for Salving every other step. Ended up burning through all my TP and HP restoring items.

So there's got to be something good at the end of all this bullshit, right? Something awesome, like some tremedous broadsword that's covered in delicious chocolate and gives great blowjobs at only 1 TP apiece.

Nope. Just a big ol' room full of more pain with 4 dinky treasure boxes in the corners. And, since there's no map tile or alternate color for the painground, I ran out of Pits halfway through meticulously mapping that big room.

What's B7F called, "Trail of Pain?" More like Trail of Fuck This Noise.

    <sigh>

Okay. I'm done. There's probably something super that appears here later in the game, right? Atlus wouldn't do this to me, would they...?

What's B7F called, "Trail of Pain?" More like Trail of Fuck This Noise.

    <sigh>

Okay. I'm done. There's probably something super that appears here later in the game, right? Atlus wouldn't do this to me, would they...?
I still freaking love this game. Just killed some giant manta thing on 15, and the drop gave me an awesome, awesome bow w/ attribute enhancements galore! Woo-hoo!

They threw the Golem at the end of the earlier section, so maybe.

ROFL, I know EXACTLY how you feel. It was an hour pain-train. To get some decent moneys though, so I don't mind it too much. :)

Yes, there's a little girl who'll whoop your ass there. At least that's what I'm assuming, I've never seen the little girl. She has the same ATK/DEF and 2000 less health than the B25 boss, who was easy. Her items are used to make the 2nd best whip and unique troubadour armor.

    SUPER SPOILER:
You'll get the quest once you hit B21F. Something about a little girl. Then something will be waiting for you in that little room on B7F. It will destroy you. I had a much harder time with this quest than anything else I've been up against so far (currently I'm at B22F.)

Man I'm enjoying the 4th Strata. The fights give me a TON of exp, and they're pretty easy. Even the FOEs are pretty easy to kill (at least at the first area).

For the rooms full of HP-sapping moss I just drew walls to show borders. It's still easy to figure out what you meant by it when you go back later.
