Fenrir is the first real boss in the game, so he is much stronger than anything else you've faced so far. If you need something to do while leveling, you could make sure you've mined/taken/chopped enough to get all the available new items at the store.

Each gather point can give three different items.

Did I screw up my protector by going Provoke + En Garde? It looks like a great combo on paper, but he rarely draws aggro despite using the skill, and En Garde seems to just not work at all.

Should I go with F. Guard, Defender and the Anti skills instead?

With the current build I have Def/Shields high because of En Garde, but it that worth it? How about HP Up?

I have max En Garde and have never seen it work. I don't get it. :(

It might not give a specific message, so we won't see it if it activates - it'll just look like an ordinary miss, but I see so few of those on my protector that either it doesn't work, or the percentage of activating, even at higher levels, is so miniscule that it's never worth taking.

OK, so I require more thoughts on Ronins. Have people had success using them in place of Landsnechts? I don't mind sparing the buff slot, all I've used so far is Defender+Immunize, so that leaves room for a Samurai stance. Do survivalists get some awesome bows later on? Right now my best katana is 90 while my best bow is 49.

How does the Medic's H. Touch skill work? I try to use it out of battle like the description says and get a message that "nothing happened" and lose my 4 TP. I figured it would let me stay down longer being a cheap way to top off after battles, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I replaced my Landsnecht with a Ronin and have had gotten good use out of her. Can't take hits as well, but with both Defender and Immunize up, few things really hurt.

Seriously. What could have been the rationale? I mean, if it's 'up to 40%' and 6TP at level 10, why in the world would anyone not just use Cure III for 10TP and 100%, which also, hey, works in a battle? This skill's description should read, "It's a trap!"

Oh, and Shocker is bugged. The TP cost is constantly a point or two higher than the Customize menu claims. It's not a huge problem.

    Dammit.

Having previously expressed my innermost thoughts and feelings on this very sequence of dungeon, I think I can safely say discovering I hadn't actually 'unlocked' the secret door would probably have caused me to kill myself. You have my sympathies, brother.

I really like the desert motif. That spaceage blue was okay for a change of pace after forest and jungle, but it got pretty old pretty fast. Is it just me, or was everything much more pixellated in the blue strata?

I rested her 3 times in the process of experimenting with different builds and became very well acquainted with tree frogs, but I finally have a post game viable hexer at level 70.
Hexers can do just fine in the main game in the place of an alchemist, I even got the "end" boss bound two different ways in the first two turns of the fight (one of which I got free because of the hexer's stagger passive) which made him kind of a joke. Torpor is great against big mobs and, although it's rarely practical, the evil eye/suicide combo is fun. But in the post game there are problems for a party without a dedicated elementalist. These problems are called iron crabs. They are practically immune to everything but volt and shock oils are an annoying way to deal with them.

But there is a solution using the hexer. Revenge at level 10 will damage everything on the screen for an amount equal to about 1.6x(max hitpoints- current hitpoints) and iron crabs don't resist it in any meaningful way. My level 70 hexer she can wipe a group of iron crabs by herself in two turns if I keep her around 25HP. Can an alchemist even match that? Maybe if it's just one crab, assuming thunder can one hit kill them, the alchemist would come out faster, or if thor can one hit a group, but someone who's played the post game with an alchemist will have to enlighten me on that.

The problem with revenge is that you take away it's usefulness if you heal your hexer so salve II is right out when you're on a floor with iron crabs, but I rarely use salve II except on bosses anyway and for bosses my hexer needs to be at full HP and spamming bindings.

Torpor and binding skills are still my hexer's bread and butter, but for 10TP revenge is a pretty nice way to dish out some significant harm to everything on the screen for a character that isn't even supposed to be about dealing direct damage. With HP boosting gear I could tack on another 160+ damage per use but revenge is mostly just there for iron crabs and not to make my hexer a primary damage dealer. Also, my medic is using the town medal at the moment and she doesn't want to give it up.

The other nice thing about revenge, besides the fact that it's cheap, hits everything, and can't really be resisted, is that you don't take damage from a curse for using it. Considering that a cursed hexer using revenge at low HP would wipe itself out, that's a nice feature.

And here's the build if you want to know. It requires 78 SP so you have to retire a level 70 :
1 in HP up (a little extra kick for revenge that lets me kill iron crabs in two turns instead of three)
7 in curses (the minimum needed for everything else I want)
10 in stagger (love this skill)
10 each in the 3 binding skills (much more reliable than any other way I've tried to bind FOEs and bosses)
    10 in torpor (my favorite)
10 in corrupt (prerequisite for revenge, sometimes fun to use on FOEs that don't resist it)
10 in revenge (burn in hell iron crabs)

Maxing HP up could be nice for revenge but it would mean sacrificing something else. I guess you could part with one of the bindings if you had another party member to cover it. I personally only want revenge for iron crabs and it does all it needs to do for that situation.

Ronins can deal out huge damage from the front row but they can't take as much abuse as a landsknecht. They speciallize in dealing out more damage than I had previously thought the game would allow and they are FOE killing machines. Since all a ronin "needs" is maxed overhead, midareba, attack up and katanas, maxing his other passive skills like HP up and TP up is easy to do relatively early on too. The other thing about ronins is that they burn TP pretty quickly (4 to get into overhead, 12 a turn with midareba) considering that they don't have much TP to begin with. Amrita II is cheap late in the game so I don't sweat it but it's worth mentioning.

There's also the major problem that if you just want to kill a monster quickly because it is about to put your party to sleep or something, the ronin won't be able to help you because all his big damage moves require that he take a stance first, giving your enemy a chance to do whatever it wants in the mean time. The landsknecht's stunner is better for this as it comes out fast and will either hit hard enough to kill or else stun the target before it can cause trouble.

It really comes down to play style and the party setup you're using. I rely on stagger and ambush to give me the drop on pesky things like muskoids and on the off chance I don't get the preemtive strike I just throw up defender and immunize while the rest of my party focuses on killing at least one of the muskoids with normal attacks before the first sleeper. I'll wake up without having taken too much abuse because of the buffs and then I'll finish the second muskoid with more normal attacks before I turn my attention to the rest of the mob which, if my hexer did her job, was put to sleep in the mean time. It's not ideal but it's survivable. I'm no longer playing in the land of muskoids now anyway and my ronin does just fine in the post game. Petaloids and muskoids are the only things I've found that make the ronin seem like a poor choice and, like survivalists, where he really shines is against FOEs and bosses.
