Greatsword verdict: I'm really bad at it! To be expected, really, but I don't think I can stomach the time it will take to suck less at it.
For now I will continue to admire the Greatsword as a concept, but from a safe, respectful distance.
You'll find a lot more resources on how to use weapons generally and combos to maximize damage than you will on how to like, fight a monster effectively, is part of the issue
Greatsword works best when you know a monster's tells, openings, and distances. If you can bait them into charging or attacking toward you and stand just outside their range, that's perfect, but it's also really hard
I usually just use a gunlance or hammer or switch axe and go nuts, pursuing a max damage combo every time I see an opening and often getting swatted out of it, which doesn't work for GS
I can't imagine fighting Magnamalo with a GS, or other fast, mobile monsters

Yeah, I decided to try a few rathian hunts with it, my go to "I want to test something" monster, and the timing just isn't quite there to take advantage of the usual openings.
I'll come back to it eventually, to but I think I'm gonna focus on what I know for now.
I don't know if it's good, but a very fun greatsword playstyle I've stumbled into, having never played greatsword previously, is wirebug whisperer + the alternate silkbind skills (the dash on X and rage slash)
Dash out to power sheathe and get the damage buff, then guard to unsheathe and dash in, smacking the monster with a level 2 charge attack that you can then chain into rage slash
After you fully charge rage slash, power sheathe will be available again, so you cancel the recovery animation with a dash out, sheathe, and repeat
Man, that Khezu sure likes to scream continuously for the entire fight, huh? Gonna have to bring a HH with earplugs next time.

On a friend's stream today, I learned there's no auto-translated shout outs to request tail cuts, so sometimes the language barrier + an SOS call means a Japanese player ends up capping a monster you wanted to get the tail off. Well, we can fix that.
How to add a bilingual custom shout-out to request tail cuts:
1. Edit your custom shoutout, type something like "Tail please!", then select the globe on the software keyboard.
2. Choose 日本語 ローマ from the language list.
3. Type "shippo" in English, then choose 尻尾 from the word select bar.
4. Type "onegai" in English, then choose お願い from the word select bar.
5. Choose the globe on the software keyboard, then choose your regular language, such as English.
6. Press Start/+ to save.
You should now have a bilingual shout out for tail cuts.
Man, I wish people would stop carting on my join requests. Also I wish I could turn off the feature where I auto-encourage people who cart on my hunts; no, it’s not ok.
Watching several streams and I've noticed players dog drifting pretty much straight ahead to get their speed boosts. Whenever I try drifting I'm always turning unless I wiggle the stick really fast. But I can never aim my drift as straight as what I see on videos.

Take your thumb off the stick completely. Doggo runs forward in a straight line just by holding R.
I think the funniest thing for me is people saying finding monsters in old games was 'random'
They have habitats and habits. If you payed any attention you'd know they go to X then Y or Z. When they are hurt they'll go to B. Etc.
I could play MHFU without psychic or paintballs because I knew where everything would be.
So maybe it wasn't a hunt because you weren't hunting, you were pulling a number out of a hat and hoping for the best. Which is fine but there was nothing confusing about it.
I need to see some science done on dog boosting to see how effective it really is.
Because doing the drift slows you down, then the boost speeds you up, but it really doesn't last very long at all. Curious how much of a time saver it really is.
I know some people are definitely doing it just for fun, but it'd still be nice to know how far ahead you end up.
Even without learning the habits there was the balloon; wave to it and the monster icon would show on the map. Don't know if the Wii game had that, but every Nintendo one after that did.
okay I got reasonable lance gear for HR and just unlocked using the gunlance shell to rocket jet yourself through the air so I can officially say this is the best weapon now

It's faster for sure, but you need to time the boost so you start the next boost right when the previous one is ending. If you just boost as often as you can, you are missing out on speed. Like you said, you lose speed as you are charging, so if you do it right before you climb a wall or something, it can be slower.

It’s definitely faster. You can dog race with a partner and compare times with drifting vs non-drifting.
Fixed a bug causing the controls to stop responding when you sit down on a bench in the village and use the "Call Cohoot" gesture and perform certain actions.
Fixed a bug causing menu options to be inaccessible when you enter the Gathering Hub with your Cohoot on your arm and sit down on a bench and open the Gestures menu.
Fixed a bug causing the controls to stop responding under certain circumstances when you receive a Join Request while riding a Canyne set to your second Buddy slot.
Fixed a bug causing the controls to stop responding when receiving and accepting a Join Request while climbing a wall at the Training Area on the back of a Canyne set to your second Buddy slot.
Fixed a bug causing save data to be corrupted when you try to continue the game from the Title Menu after quitting the game while having the Attack Pose Set and Hurt Pose Set equipped to the Action Bar or the radial menu. You will now be able to resume your game with the save data in question.
Fixed a bug causing controls to stop responding when performing certain actions after using an updraft (upwelling wind) at the Lava Caverns.
Fixed a bug causing an error when changing Switch Skills at the item box using certain game data.
Fixed a bug preventing the software keyboard from being displayed when you try to change the minimum HR when searching for an online Lobby.
Other bug fixes.
They also fixed the infinite item glitch that let you make endless traps etc.
The gesture thing was top priority of course since it was costing them actual money in selling those gestures. :P
i loaded world up a few days ago and i've been playing around with it a little because the completion call is still there
i noticed i still technically have not crafted the full fatalis set, since i need two more eyes for the chest and was like, yo this sucks, i should rectify this
i looked up an eye farming guide on the youtubes and tried out the method (head sniping with frostcraft greatsword) and hooooly shit do i not know how to exist in the same room with fatalis any more
I think I figured out what the heck the purpose of the Hunter Connect is.
First you make one and invite all your friends to it. Then every time you play, whether just soloing village or hub or whatever, you make sure to go online and join the connect room. If there isn't an active one, then one will be created. Then if everyone else also makes a habit of doing that, you will naturally gravitate together whenever anyone is online.
That seems pretty cool. Do we have a PA Hunter Connect? I would totally join it every time. Like a clubhouse you always go to whenever you play and just see if anyone else is around.

The problem is Hunter Connects are capped at ten players, and still only one lobby of 4 people

I know some of us tried to create some, but I don't know that they work as intended, because whenever I open one up, I still have to ask everyone to join.
Got a palico who seems like a keeper (healing bubbles, power drum, pilfer) so I experimented with no palamute in co op last night. After some adjustment I really didn’t feel like I was missing the speed as much as I thought I would; I was getting to monsters about as quickly as other players, sometimes even faster. Pilfer is a good time too.
If you’re just going to beeline for the monster and not spend much time running around the map, kitty party seems like a good way to go?

If you initially set it to auto-invite people you play with, you will invite every random person you end up playing with online (doing join requests). I've gotten a whole bunch of them. It'd probably be better to set it to manual invite, then get together a few times and send the invites. I think anyone who is part of it can then send invites to others.

I think without to puppers you feel a stronger need to optimize your pathing, so you often get there faster just by picking a smarter route, whereas with a puppers I often just immediately hop on the dog and follow the monster.
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
Hmmmm. Dual blades is calling to me because they can also be the lord of the skies like insect glaive can.
I made the Qornu Waga, because they're dope looking. I want to make either the Altair or Sworn Rapiers, but since Guild Tickets are limited right now, I'm taking opinions.
Sliding is also just as fast as a dashing dog and both the desert and ice areas have great buff routes that are 90% sliding. The other areas are not quite as good, but have routes that usually involve teleporting to a camp first. Great wirebugs can make up for not having a doggo in some situations too.

Just out of curiosity I checked Best Buy to see if any around me had the MH Pro controller. No controller, console, or any of the 3 physical versions of Rise available within 250mi - all sold out.

Impressive!
It’s already pushed 5 million units as of yesterday.
Once it gets released on PC it’ll have another huge sales bump.
I think it’s all but certain we’ll be seeing a full MR expansion.

It's really bad on captures in particular with the 20s time limit. Hope there wasn't a tail to carve.

I dunno if you can turn it off, but sheathing your weapon and then pressing B cancels it.
my favorite is slapping rathalos' toes or tail with the tip of the blade while hanging out underneath.

1. ammo management is not fun
2. gonna get RSI from mashing ZR all day everyday
3. kinda boring just shooting actually
going to try out gunlance otherwise sticking with lance
