Had one in the cart, Best Buy randomly decides to log me out and force me to get a verification code via email, and surprise it's no longer available.
Fucking piece of shit website.
Had one what? I literally woke up 18 minutes ago, checked my bookmarks, saw BB had 5600xes, did the whole cart dance, double verification, change shipping method, pay, and got one. And in the time I was doing all that on my phone, I refreshed the page on my PC and it showed Sold Out.
I keep having successes with BB as advertised and you keep getting the shaft and I've no idea what the difference between us is.
Edit: ohh, they had a bunch of 3080s too =/ I wasn't up early enough for those; I'm guessing that's what you were shooting for. And the presence of the 3080s and the relative undesired-ness of the 5600x (and probably larger supply) helped me out here.
But damn, I missed the 3080s, lol.
3080's yeah.
I logged in and was camped out, the EVGA died on the vine and the MSI one redirected me to log in and then had to snag a code from my email.
The code was a digit string, but it may as well have said "LOLFUCKUBITCH"
This is what they did a week and a half ago when I got the 3080 for my friend; keep refreshing the 3080 pages for the ones you want, you might get lucky
Yeah, I tried to get a 3080FE too. Got it in cart, hit check out, forces me to log in, send verification email, log in, still in cart, hit checkout... "we're sorry, this item is no longer available for delivery / in-store pickup."
I'm not sure what the point of the delay is if they're not actually reserving the item? Or I guess they're really, really bad at session cookies and the reservation gets cleared out during login.
Think I'm going to go ahead and upgrade from my R7 260X, some games are starting to fall short of 60fps for me even at 720 with modest settings.
Either to a 1060 or a 1650 Super, I'm thinking. Something that can max out 1080p, has shorter models (<200mm), and only needs a 6-pin.
MSI's short 1650 Super models are going for ~$180+ new with MS sales tax, which is about my limit. edit: Walmart of all places has the MSI 1650 Super Aero a bit cheaper than Amazon or Newegg?
Maybe I'll poke around r/hardwareswap and Ebay, see if I can find a better deal. Though saving $30-40 or so may not be worth it vs buying new and knowing the warranty is good...
Is there anything else I should be looking at or below that price range (used or new) that has models on the shorter side and 6pin?
@Kamar Personally I'd try and hold on just a bit longer. A 1060 is barely going to get you 60fps at 1080p. If you can wait till early next year, and the supply chain normalizes more, you'll see a flood of used cards showing up. Ideally a used 1070 or 2060 would be a safer longer term bet.

Fortunately, this can just be a stopgap. In four or five months I'll be able to comfortably dump $1000 into my computer if I want to (and give whatever I buy now to a friend).
Looks like I can grab a 1060 3gb for like $80-100 used.
Hey folks, my sister reached out to me to get an idea of what specs to look for in buying a gaming PC for my nephew. I would build it for him, but I live in the US and they are in the UK, so not really feasible. Do any of you know a good UK based gaming PC provider? Their budget is £800, non-inclusive of a monitor or peripherals.
I may have managed to order a 3090 FE from Best Buy.
Edit: It looks like I did
My name is Benjamin and that was a hell of a screen shot to wake up to today. I ordered what for how much?!
Hi Benjamin,
Thanks for asking! It looks like you ordered an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB PCI Express 4.0 Graphics Card in Titanium and Black for $1,499.99. This order includes sales tax and expedited shipping, bringing your total to $1,625.22. Thank you for reaching out to Penny Arcade Customer Service. Please let me know if you need anything else!

Speaking of 3090's. The very long, very expensive, HDMI cable I ordered did not work :? My TV still think it's getting no signal from my PC when trying to get a 10-bit HDR signal.
Sending that cable back and trying a much shorter one (which requires me to move my PC) just to see if I can get it to work. LG suggests not using a cable longer than 3m so we'll see.

I was in the same situation earlier this year and ended up getting a 1660 Super. From what I recall, there's a noticeable jump up in performance for the 1660 Super over the 1650 Super and not a large price differential. Might be worthwhile considering. Searching now, though there appears to be about a $80 CDN price differential, so it may be out of your budget range. Video cards are now stupidly expensive compared to what they once were.

I don't know if newer models can handle 4K/HDR 10, but have you looked into HDMI over Ethernet extensions?

Anyone know if Tube got his CyberPower rig yet? I ordered one from them too and I'm curious how close they were to hitting their shipping estimate for him.
My order just went into what they call "Warehouse Phase" which means they are now gathering parts for it. I've got two "rare" parts in my build, a 3080 and a 5900, so I'm a little concerned about how long it will actually take to get my PC. But maybe there's nothing to worry about since they're a builder and probably have a direct pipeline straight to the distributor for video cards and processors.
@Rius@Infidel I'm using the standalone Asus Aura so luckily I'm not dealing the whole Armory Crate thing which is bloatware nearly as bad as MSI's Dragon Center.
I wish I could find RGB software that would let me do custom gradients. Most seem to have preset gradients but never the colors I want to use. Maybe there is third party software that will but I haven't looked into that yet.
Found out OpenRGB will let me do all sorts of fun stuff and is pretty great!
....If I'm not using any MSI board running Mystic Light RGB controllers. Currently OpenRGB has these disabled because they bricked a few of them and are still working out how to (in order):
A. un-brick them
B. Make them work without bricking them
So uh, trying to decide if I just turn around my tomahawk when it comes in and grab a different board, or just accept the lack of RGB for a while and hope they figure it out.
I suppose I could also make myself a test dummy and ship it back to Amazon if I brick it but that feels a little icky.
The only RGB software I liked enough to keep installed on my system was the monitor software required to enable video sync mode for the big sphere light behind my LG 27GN950-B. It actually provides a really cool additional immersion factor in big colorful open world games and looks generally great. The monitor also has an audio sync mode which appears designed to induce seizures.
Besides that, I set my 3080 to go from blue (under 45C) through green (under 75C) to red as GPU temperature increases and left all of the default settings in place for the motherboard and RAM RGB.
OpenRGB looks like exactly what I want except I have an MSI board. Will have to wait.
It seems to only pick up my GPU right now, not sure if that's due to the motherboard constraints? It doesn't detect my RAM but it also doesn't detect my mouse even.
I'm using a MSI x570 Unify so OpenRGB is a no go for me too. The led strips and controller I'll be using are from Aquacomputer but they're going to one of the last things I install. It's software should be very good from what I've read. Unfortunately it will not control non-aquacomputer rgb devices. There is Jacknet RGB Sync but that looks to only full sync rgb settings instead of creating lighting designs.
It's also a great thing I didn't RGB up my build, because one minor mishap I had during my build involved accidentally bending some RGB header pins on the motherboard :bigfrown:
So I'm thinking I might get 3 more Lian Li fans, so that I have 3 of them mounted at the top of the case, and then a 4th mounted at the back for exhaust? That would mean 6 intake fans, 2 CPU fans, and 1 exhaust fan. Does that seem stupid or overkill?

I mean yes but
It'll definitely put positive pressure in your case to keep the dust out
six intake one exhaust might cause some problems with airflow, honestly; positive pressure is good for anti-dust but you've gotta make sure the hot air gets vented from your case instead of whirling around forever. Tops really should be exhaust in every case, and rear exhaust in any case with an air cooler for the CPU.
Plus also top mounted fans are horizontal by nature and that's the fastest way to wear out fluid dynamic fans, so in two years you might need new ones anyway

@Lucascraft I'm not sure about Cyberpower, but Maingear is looking at middle to end of December.
EDIT: I ordered the day after the AMD CPU release. I've asked the company about low stock and while they do have a supplier line, it's still not stocked and they have their own waitlists.

If it says "Sold Out" then they're done.
page refresh went from "sold out" to "add to cart"
but more people are in on the drop now so it's getting a lot harder.

Heard it worked best for coverage versus other brands. It discovered zero lights so that got uninstalled.
MSI Dragon Center is pretty bleh, which is funny because MSI Afterburner is to go-to on GPU side for cross-brand software choices.

Double edit: Do you need past 4k60fps? That one looks like it's only HDMI 1.4.
I saw these kinds of solutions but I'm not sure there are ones fully supporting HDMI 2.1 / [email protected] + 10-bit color yet.

iCue will let you define specific colors on a per-LED basis, especially with Corsair products.

Current setup is 3 intake, one exhaust out the back.
What I may do, then, is grab just one more fan to exhaust out the top. That should keep positive pressure while also helping airflow.
Plus I dunno if I wanna invest in a bunch of fans, when I may very well be mounting a radiator at the top in a couple years.
