On the last day of fest I finally completed all 100 levels of the spiraling dungeon. Somehow I mastered the 100th level in one go, but took 4 tries to get lvl 99 because I kept dying. Glad to be done with this, focusing on the lab dungeons next.
Took me several tries to figure out how to get out of phase 1 in time, but I have successfully Cloud Keepered the Sandworm to death. So I have perfect passives on all hero equipment for (checks notes) Eiko and Serafie. Yay?
Team was Zidane (Dyad, Sync, AA), Faris (Chain, AA), Cloud (Sync, AASB), Elarra, Orran. Probably could have been Mog instead of Orran, the main thing he was providing was quick cast with a side of off healing. Incidentally, slot 3 takes several Chain Stonegas throughout the fight, so it's a rare case where single target heals do something relevant.
I did end up clearing the VI Dragonking. Gogo was totally the way to go; I forgot the special Sync C2 gives cap break +1. I entered phase 3 with two 30k hits left and limped over the finish line with OSB spam. The ticket gave five dupes, naturally.
I also spent my 100 mythril AASB select on Rydia AASB2 out of sheer bloody-minded vanity. Got fed up with never getting her Syncs after all this time. I have enough support AASBs anyway.
My magic earth team was able to auto through 70 in the Spiraling Depths, but 75 is immune to magic and melee and I don't think I have the patience to pilot a physical water or lightning team through this just to see if I can auto the next few afterwards. I never seem to get the results out of physical teams that everyone else does; magic has always been more comfortable for me. Plus the healing in this fight seems like a pain in the ass to optimize with 9k hits and Sap everywhere.
Last night, the discount FFV banner got me Krile’s Arcane, Bartz’s Water Glint+, and Lenna’s Sync.
Krile’s still somehow the only real Fire Magic chainer I’ve got, so this is neat for her. I would like to have her Awakening, though.
Lenna... is still kinda awkward. And I have nearly all her stuff, lol. I would like to have her Bubsy, as it is like Elarra’s USB1, but with less up-front healing and a Brave command that does Last Stand. Still. A sync’s a sync. I’ll give her a shot next time I do FFV Cardia stuff, or when I really hate Ice damage.
Bartz is whatever. I still don’t have his Awakening1, so he’s not exactly busting into my Water teams with this. An investment for later, if I get more of his Water tools.
Oh haha. Maybe I should’ve made Ingus’s Hero Ability a while ago, for my Earth team. It boosts the party’s Earth damage level every third time it’s used. Which improves the party’s damage over time and is nice in conjunction with his Awakening for dualcast.
It does sound nice. I don’t like that most of his stuff is so focused on Heavy, but his Awakening is entirely generic Earth, and that chase seems like fun.

Gladio AASB is like any other AASB. Except it also gives him +30% physical damage and triggers a free AOSB after the third attack because why not.
I wouldn't say Gladio is heavy focused? Like, yes, his ultra gives him extra heavy charges if you want to use him that way, but that's it (and the USB is still ok without that feature). Ain't nobody got meter for a Glint that doesn't give element aura or weakness damage.
The one drawback Gladio has is that his hero ability is slow for the first few casts, in exchange for giving him a damage barrier that is meaningless outside of making his Sync silly. And that Knight abilities continue to be awful in general.
If I didn't have Leo's Awakenings, or if I had Gladio's Earth chain, I think I'd want to put Gladio in one of my Earth teams, because that does sound quite nice. Ingus's Hero Ability is nice for support (as I said earlier, it buffs the party's Earth damage), but having a grade 2.5 Chain would me that Earth damage buff on its own.
Just kinda a shame that fights like the Striker are too long to really make use of Fabula Sorcerer as a Chain.
Physical Earth is still in an awkward place for me. I have Awakenings for 3 potential Chain holders, but the actual Chains I have are on Ingus and 2 characters who don't yet have an Awakening. I've managed to dodge an actual combo.

There's no real way to get Chains anymore, right? They're not on banners anymore.
There's no real way to get Chains anymore, right? They're not on banners anymore.
Yeah, now that you mention it, they don't seem to be on banners too often any more.
Looks like gen 2 chains will be getting added to the lab in about three months, at a cost of 2000 level 4 lenses. Of course, you could also be spending 3000 level 4 lenses on a new AASB.
I guess keep throwing tickets at the elemental banners and hope.

It's either throw tickets at elemental banners, outright buy them for 30 dollars, or Lenses down the road.
Having only Garland chain is making Wodin difficult.
There's always the option to RW chain for Odin, if the rest of your team is stacked.
My Dark DPS with multiple BDL are Cloud and Sephiroth, who crit fix themselves, making Tyro useless. I ended up getting a kill with a newly honed Mog AASB2, for 30s of untyped QC.
Notably I unlocked Cloud's and Sephiroth's Dragonking Record Board nodes for extra damage. Everything else is pretty standard.
Cloud HA spam into Wind AASB, HA spam. After 80% diffusion/75% Aegis, G+, USB3, USB1. Resume HA spam for bigger numbers.
Garland TbD, call magicite, TbD spam into Unique into Chain. TbD spam until death. After revival, CSB, AASB, TbD spam until end.
Sephiroth G+, Omega Drive spam into USB2. HA spam. After 75%, USB1, AASB, USB2. HA spam for big numbers.
Mog Wall, PS, CT, AASB2, alternate PS, CT, call magicite when it refreshes, dance until death. After revival, AASB into USB1 for all the QC, alternate dances.
Elarra G+, Dispel, Sing, USB1 to quicken out team SBs, sing, USB2, sing spam, AASB after Holyja (after Zantetsuken) kills slots 2/4. Sing spam into USB1 to clear sap. Sing until sub 20%, dispel, sing spam.
And that's how you kill a dark weak boss with a wind character's AASB. Gen 1 chain, but everything else worked out nicely.
Looking at DK15 or Kalvinaka Striker next, I think.
I need to stop trying the physical-weak Kalavinka Striker.
Particularly for a damage type without access to Allegro Con Moto, this fight is fucking brutal with how fast it demands you go. I'm trying to slow-roll the first phase, and in this fight, that means using only one Awakening, and saving Odin for halfway through the phase. And that still seems really tight for getting out of the phase before Maze Gate (which might as well just be an eject). If I go faster early on, I lose what I need for the other phases, which break your momentum with defense buffs. It's actually kinda impressive that they made a fight more frustrating than AOdin, without making him re-rage every time you look at him funny.
I've been trying to get to phase 3 with Leo's party barrier Awakening ready to go, but I keep losing Elarra, or everyone, shortly before or after the final phase transition, which takes so long to get back to.
Trying to get all the inputs right is so demanding that one of my thumbs is actually sore from holding position over my screen to tap the pause button with nearly every action. I could maybe get somewhere if I just kept trying, but if it's actually harming my fingers, then fuuuuck that.
If only we had some kind of option to make the action pause when selecting moves. The game would still require basically the same level of power, but it would be so much less mentally taxing and stressful to input stuff, and it would be harder for technical issues to eat a bunch of time between actions. It would be so nice if the game could just Wait for me while I do my stuff. Oh well; no sense pining for what's clearly technically impossible, right?

Free draw got me Yuffie BSB1 dupe, PCecil OSB, and Quina USB2.
That’s the first equipment I’ve pulled for PCecil and Quina- the OSB doesn’t seem all that good, but the USB2 for Quina might be useful if I got more support for them…
This Sandworm fight is indeed a serious DPS check. Aside from the very fast "you lose" in every phase, the last couple actions before that are generally party imperil earth, enemy wind defense up, and/or enemy earth attack up. That stuff adds up surprisingly quickly - take a couple earth imperils, and attacks will hit for like 14k; fire off DPS a little sooner to skip those, and the attacks are a much more manageable 6k to 7k. But the drawback is that then there's nothing left in the tank to finish off the last phase.
Managed to make it work with Noct's Sync1 for Fire, and Ignis USB/AASB2 instead of Aranea. Had to use Pyro-Glacial Retaliate and Flame Touched Blade because I needed to extra crit chance in phase 1 to break rages. Was a bit slower in phase 1 (saw the Sleep, Mog woke Noctis up next turn) and finished in 34ish seconds, as opposed to 29ish, per my usual performance. Phase 2 and beyond moved more or less like the plan, though Ignis lacks Crit-fix so while he wasn't capping, he was still managing to crack 10k on Rage 3s. The party weakness damage boost from his AASB made up some of the difference.
And Gladio. My gods, what a monster. Pushed phase 2->3 in two attacks, ate DKFB, and still tore a layer of King's Rage off. Next turn with Mog buff attacked and took two more layers off, then triggered Orbital Strike to tear the last layer off, then Orbital Strike+ to deal AOSB level damage.
E: Having my framerate drop to single digits for the last 20% was nerve-wracking. Not sure if it was connection or phone issue, but worrisome.
E2: Probably FF13 DB next, then maybe Kalavinka Striker attempts.

I'm such an dumbass.
I was trying to Record Board Vanille for the DB, clicked on her HA to select every tile on her board, then didn't hit it again and wasted 100 Sapphires on her useless HA.
I almost want to file a ticket to see if I can get this reversed, though I'm not sure the customer service will do anything.
I do not exchange lenses for sapphires until I'm ready to get a hero ability, for that exact reason. Can't spend them if you don't got them.
Silence post inspired me to rearrange my XV team and it got the win, so thanks for that. Special shout out to Iris USB2, that thing makes life a billion times better with the constant quick cast for everybody. I got lucky and picked it up on some realm tickets; it's probably still a couple months away from making it into the lab.
I've been trying the Kalavinka Striker physical fight, and I've reworked my team to the point where victory is so close. And I just had the best run I've had yet, with the characters so ready to set up the final round of DPS in the last phase.
...and then I fat-fingered Machina's USB instead of his Chain, when he only had enough meter for one of the two. Cue an extremely disappointing run of damage until he got enough meter to use his Chain, which was when the boss was only like 3 actions away from the hard enrage.
Just... dammit. These fights are too long for this kind of last-minute fumbl.
Haaaaah. I did it. I cleared that freaking fight. And I do feel good about it. It involved a lot of optimizing how I approached it, and I learned a few tricks I might apply to other team building.

I beat 99, but not mastery, but whatever.
I keep getting good find in 100 and then like.... The game somehow wigs out and forgets someone is in sync mode or something (that legit happened)
Got my fucking pocket watch :v
Less of that, more like the phantom train stuff, plz.

What a crazy outdated pool. Braska BSB dupe.
Use the Sync to buff his damage, and trigger the Awakening chase after 3 hits, and melt the world.
