There were some videos posted a couple days back leaking two new five star characters. I think it was an ice bow and geo spear. Wonder if those are part of the 1.1 or not.
Geo Spear is a character you meet in Liyue, so it's kinda surprising he's not already in the game. The other character is probably for 1.2, as she seems to be intended as connecting the narrative between Liyue and the next zone, which is probably also what "Dragonspine Snow Mountain" is for.
It's an interesting case study of a game because this is definitely looking like a gacha game trying to stretch it's wings into the more mainstream/AAA gaming space.
Except gacha players are more accustomed/need a very quick pace of content delivery; the shallow gameplay starts to break down from monotony when there's no sense of new shiny thing. Even if it just a re-skin of the same kind of the kind of grind all over again.
Meanwhile, mainstream gamers are running into the gacha mechanics like lootboxes and time-gated content that you need to grind repeatedly and recoiling in horror that people actually play/pay for these kinds of games.
Either way, I can't see there being nothing between now and November. Even if it's just new banners. The Venti banner countdown is way before Nov 11th. I didn't notice if the weapon banner has a countdown or not. Either way, not having a new banner is like asking to not make money; gacha game always needs the new hotness to get the whales to spend. If you're going to whale on this game, you've done it by now so there's no need to plunk down any more money until there's a new banner.
Edit: Meant to say there are a couple characters, like Klee, that are in the game already as well. I think Klee was even in the beta or something? The Geo-spear guy might be part of 1.1, but that doesn't mean there won't be any other banners. An easy idea would be once Venti goes away, cycle some featured banners of the other 5* units in the general pool.
I mean, start of a gacha game you don't need that much. Everyone is busy leveling their new characters from the launch pool. Except it seems like the resin is really time-gating people from doing that; once you hit the end-game, there's no stashes of exp books or talent books around every corner anymore. It's going to be interesting to see what the end of October in this game looks like; especially if they're releasing new banners. You could pull a new 5* unit and then have no way to level it up for weeks.

I'm not a complicated man. I require holiday-themed costumes and collectibles or I riot.
Started this last night and finished through the third temple to hit AR7. Got flooded with currency so I did some pulls.
- Noelle
- Sucrose x2
- Xiangling x2
- 5* Skywhatever Bow why are you not a character damn you
So, rates are pretty terrible! Combat is iffy, couldn't really tell when I was taking damage usually. Story sounds interesting, characters are alright, and being able to call Paimon emergency food was hilarious. Guess the next goal is AR10
On rates: you got more doodz than I got, so they're probably gonna get worse...
I don't see how, those were literally all pities besides the bow.
They really should have some 3* characters I think
You can get pity-weapons instead of pity-characters, that's how. If you want to know how bad luck can get, I'm AR26 and I've gotten exactly two non-automatic characters so far. I have Barbs from hitting AR20, Xiangling from Abyss 3-3, Traveller, Amber, Lisa and Kaeya and gotten Beidou and Xingqiu from wishes. That's two characters out of maybe 70 wishes (got the 50 wish achievement ages ago, haven't kept tabs on the exact number otherwise).
At least Beidou is great and right now I feel like I'd be hard-pressed to even level any new characters (and their weapons) up so in that sense it's no big deal, but it'd be nice to have a few more options and to try out all these cool characters others are playing with. But of course that's gacha games for ya.
If you haven't done the newbie spin yet, you should, the guaranteed character Noelle is great and you're guaranteed a character with your second (and final) spin. I got a Geo mage lady as my second newbie spin and she's been on errand duty ever since due to my assumption that Geo's a bad element for a mage to be so she's not even worth building up.
yes i think the main complaint is more that the end-game, such as it is now, is radically different from the rest of the game (no more open world exploration, do leylines / bosses / domains only), time-gated, very 'mobile' feeling. but since the rest of the game doesn't feel like that its sort of an abrupt shift from being able to sink multiple hours into the game wandering around having fun, progressing etc. to a more mobile games experience of "ok you can play for ~30 minutes to knock out your dailies and spend your energy and then you gotta wait until tomorrow"
without a constant drip of new content i don't know how you sustain people on that kind of model. i guess the question is how do mmos do it but the time-gating in mmos isn't as fierce
I feel like they would solve a lot of their late game problems if they just got rid of the resin system. It's one of the biggest "oh this is actually a mobile game masquerading as a console/pc game" things in the game.
It's not the only issue with the game (.6% chance for 5* is really low even for a gacha), but it's the one that straight up tells you that you need to stop playing and go do something else. Which is fine for a phone game, but it's not something you want to see if you're sitting down at your PC specifically to play a game.

MMOs have the same boom/bust cycle really. Wildly popular whenever the game/expansion launches. Then everyone burns through the content; the hardcore players stick around and grind a few months out of it to get THE BEST loot. The very casuals will play it over a longer span of time because they are slow to getting to the end. But the majority hits the end-game, tries the grind, finds it boring, and then quits until the next expansion. The company doesn't really care because you already paid your money; you had to buy the expansion itself and at least 1 month of play time. Then they get a nice steady stream from the hardcore fans and the casuals that login a couple times a week or something but take their time.
Gacha games don't have that consistent stream, so they have to eliminate or shorten that bust period as much as possible so they can keep you engaged and paying for stuff. Time-gate your grinding and then let you play money to remove or alleviate the time-gate. New characters/skins to let you engage with the content in a new shiny way and/or alleviate the difficulty of that content through power-creep. But you need new content to incentive those new purchases.
Genshin is definitely asking some questions about the gacha model and seeing what answers they get. Is it worth the extra development time to go six weeks between updates to draw a much larger audience? Is six weeks too long of a bust cycle for a gacha game? Is that drop in player base sustainable because the much larger original player base? If people do drop it, will enough come back after a content patch does hit? How much marketing do they need now to spend to get those players back, or even realize there's something to come back to? Do people who return to the game end up still spending enough money to make up for the weeks of no spending from lost players?
Yeah, I've run into the resin CD a bit, even though I'm still very much in the exploration mode side of things. Hitting up the blossoms because "hey, it's there and I need to level AR!" After you do six in quick succession, it's not an option anymore. They could probably shore up the lifespan of the game by getting rid of resin or greatly accelerating the rate it regens or massively expand the pool. Right now is exploration, it's not exactly terrible, I don't feel pressed to make efficient use of it, but I can sense how that will be really annoying when I run out of the exploration content.
On that note, they need to have more random events. I've run into a few, but they seem far too sparse for a game like this. Another way to ensure people feel the content is engaging without running the same things over and over again.
I have two issues with resin: 1, the daily BP quest requires using 150 while you only have a cap of 120, so you're forced to play twice per day to claim it and 2, 8 minutes per resin recovery time is excessive, especially with the smallest cost of something being 20. Having to wait over two hours from depletion before you can use it again is crazy.

I mean, I certainly haven't been playing super hard, but so far I am more than enjoying myself, and mostly treating the gacha aspect as more of just a bonus endorphin rush when I have enough whatevers to do the whatever. The game itself is more than enjoyable with the moderate luck I've had pulling, and the free characters you are given. Especially if you consider Noella a given, as I believe she automatically gets pulled in your first 10 pull on that banner.
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
Haha... I have only managed to hit one character outside of the focused 4*s so far. My first beginner roll hit Diluc with Noelle. On the other hand I have 3 constellations in on Barbara and Fischl now. And having Fischl's E keep getting buffed is hardly a bad thing...

Fischl is absolutely great, and even if you don't use her as your main dps, her raven buddy boosts everyone.
Fischl with constellations is absurd. I went kind of hard on the Venti banner and ended up getting her to max constellation; she absolutely shreds everything in the game so far. Running with team Rate Up (Fischl/Xiangling/Barbara/Venti) and the amount of ele reactions you can proc just cycling through them all is dumb as hell. Got Xiangling with the 4 piece instructor set bonus (ele mastery up to team when she presses her E), Venti with the exile set bonus (team energy recharge when you ele burst), Barbara with HP up artifacts and the 3* buff book, and then just stacked as much attack as possible on Fish, with the 18% normal attack set bonus as well. Leading with Xiang E and then swapping to Fish to proc overload basically deletes most random camps on it's own, and elites still get shredded by Fish autos. Barbara healing is absurd + she buffs Fish even more, and Venti swaps in to spread swirl and burst big groups.
One annoying thing about Fish is that I don't think her first ascension talent actually works at the moment? I spent a good twenty minutes messing around with it; hitting oz with fully charged shots never seemed to do anything. Doesn't really matter cause I mostly just press E/Q and then spam her 5 hit combo anyways.
No idea who I'm gonna invest in for a second team though. I'll worry about that later, still only AR21 and grinding to unlock MSQ stuff.
the hitbox on hitting oz is really weird. i think it works if you shoot the ground beneath oz, but also the AOE you get is pretty tiny (possibly the same as the un-upgraded AOE on summoning Oz? or maybe the upgraded aoe which is still not large) and its probably hard to actually hit oz consistently when there are enemies around
I want Fischl because Lisa is extremely unfun to play with as the default Lightning element character

Razor is weird in that once properly built he is amazingly powerful, but he's just so different of a feeling to play.
My main team is all about switching characters to constantly use bursts and skills and then have Jean be the Swirl and main dps. Taking damage doesn't really matter since it's spread over the whole team and Jean's healing is more than sufficient to cover that situation.
My secondary team with Razor though is essentially: okay, have I made sure to use everyone else's skills? Because as soon as Razor's ready I'm going to E > Q > E and then just wail on people for 15 seconds until the duration's up, as it terminates early if I switch off him.
Razor's my main right now, have him sitting at 50 while I wait for AR30. I put out Xianling and Fischl's summons and then just go to down on people. Sometimes with a Venti overload tornado for good measure.
It is sort of funny/unintuitive that you're really discouraged from keeping a party at roughly the same level. Right now my party is a 50, two 40s, and a 20, the latter three of which I just use for elemental effects.
From what I've heard the next banner is Klee, but does anyone have any idea who the rate up 4*s are supposed to be? Kinda want to hold off investing in a second team just in case I pull some dupes with good constellations
So I opened a Mona. I was running Xialing/Diluc/Barbara/Fishel and whilst Fishel is amazing, having 2/2 on the elements feels really, really strong. I have constant ultimates, and chaining Monas ult (which is a big, big dmg buff) with Diluc feels just straight filth.
I've been running Keqing, Fischl, Xiangling, and Barbara.
Basic strategy I've been using is throw out Fischl's and Xiangling's respective animals as much as I can. Use Xiangling's ultimate whenever it's up. Spend the rest of the time on Keqing using all her stuff and regular melee attacks to fill time until the other skills are off CD. Barbara is for whenever I need to heal. There's constant lightning and fire status effects getting thrown around so I'm getting overload damage going off for almost the entire fight.
I really wish that the UI would show the remaining CDs for your benched party member elemental burst skills. It would be nice to know for sure when I need to swap to somebody else to use their skill instead of just guessing when it's ready to go again.
I'm also very jealous at the people in here with Diluc. The couple times I've been able to use him as a trial party member have made me want him as my party's main dps real bad. Dude seems straight up busted.
Been pulling with just f2p and finally got a Venti. Decided to spend enough pulls on his banner to finish my guaranteed 4 star hoping for an extra Fischl.... and it's another Venti. Really wasn't expecting that.
Is there any way to unlock constellation things without getting a straight dupe?
No.
I think they could add a lot of time to the content by adding a repeatable co-op dungeon. (like, actually a GOOD co-op dungeon). Just don't have it use fucking whatever moon energy.

My point of view as someone who plays a lot of gacha and has played MHYs games since ggz:
They only ever mentioned client update content in their roadmaps and they've always been 6 to 8 weeks apart. Stuff happens in between, you just don't hear about it till it's started or they drop the PV animation a few days before.
But also this slow start is pretty normal. People are so used to old games being ported that can then condense content that they think it's normal. The only mobile game I think really compares release wise is Dragalia and... The first 3 months were nothing but them reusing the stages from chapter 1 and that poor cyclops they kept recoloring as a 'new' boss.
Which I guess if people think a bouncing 2d cutout of Venti with a text box and purple Dvalin is good enough I'm sure MHY could do it, but I feel like they have standards.
Resin is... Whatever. Honkai is still brutal with stamina. They'll make some small tweaks like giving more refills and maybe an overflow system but I don't expect much.
I got diluc and the four star greatsword that resets your ability in the same roll set
Instantly leveled him to 40
So far I’m not having the groove with him I had with my xing, fishc, barbs, trav team
I tried replacing Fisch with him but didn’t work great
Replace Xing with him.
But xings teddy bear is just sooo good. And it’s such a short cooldown compared to fisch
Plus I figured the double fire party bonus might be solid.
But yeah... I figured ultimately that’s the route I’ll have to try. I just... “go bobo go!” You know?
Also the level 40 remix of the dragon boss fight wrecked my Butt hole. I feel like I’m missing a mechanic to avoid the constant damage from the rain
The main thing is that mixing element effects does bonus damage, and Fischl provides a bottomless supply of electro procs. The basic plan is just keeping Oz while on pyro chars to proc it. And Diluc procs it really well since his skill can light it off three times and his burst lets all his attacks set it off.
OTOH, Xing's burst ALSO sets it off like crazy. Diluc being a greatsword helps against a lot of things though.
Okay I don't get to complain about rates in Genshin anymore. Used last of dust to buy the item for that Jean/Diluc banner and pulled Jean on the single. Then spent the remainder of that Primogem windfall in the mail on Venti banner and pulled him + Fischl. Guess that 5* bow is going to get some decent use after all.
Fischl and Xing together are great and I always keep them.
Fischl, Barbara, Xiangling and noelle being my go-to.
Point blank shield with Noelle for the element, swap to Xiang, drop bear, swap to Fischl, birb, then spam attacks like crazy because she hits for 300+ per hit for me.

Geo Spear is a character you meet in Liyue, so it's kinda surprising he's not already in the game. The other character is probably for 1.2, as she seems to be intended as connecting the narrative between Liyue and the next zone, which is probably also what "Dragonspine Snow Mountain" is for.
