    Ditto.

It was fun to watch someone like Obama take his opponents to task.

I’m not especially interested in nonstop lying and insults followed by acclaim for Trump not personally bursting in to flames.

It's possible that it could go the other way - Trump has done lasting damage to the Republican party, and permanently lowers their overall voting base by some amount.

In another 4 years more of their older base will have died, after all, and they seem to have taken a hit in the college educated / middle class suburban vote pool. They may not fully recover the latter now those voters are no longer reflexively voting Republican, so to speak; once that habit is broken, it's no longer a default action?

Edit - sorry, this was in response to TheBigEasy on the previous page, and I didn't hit "quote".

I plan on watching it out of morbid curiosity. It’s like passing by a car crash; I can’t help but look.

Gonna do some heavy alcohol though.

I forgot the debate was tonight. I may watch. I am half interested to see if Biden just smacks him around verbally or if Trump cries.

But at the same time a new book in a series I like dropped and video games seem so much better for my mental health.

You know it will be. You'll get nothing from watching the debate live besides rage and maybe schadenfreude if Trump has a big enough screwup. Highlights the next day will be more than enough for me. Imma play some Satisfactory and go to bed at a reasonable hour.

This is a good plan. Otherwise we'll all end up spending the night re-enacting Mrs. White's "flames, flames on the side of my face" scene from Clue all night long.

Debates seem like a relic from a time when both sides agreed what the problem was and both had some level of solution for it. Then you could say oh maybe I'll vote for Kang since his plan sounds more reasonable or something. When the two sides can't even agree what the problems are the word debate loses some meaning.

Question: Climate change is happening what should we do?
We should try and fix it.

I guess if you have no idea what their platforms are it could be informative but I can't imagine that is the case for most people.

Kudos to those with the mental fortitude to observe Trump verbally secreting mind poison for the duration of the debate. The bubbling cauldron of feelings that he elicits...I cannot personally endure prolonged exposure.

Just be careful if looking for highlights- the meta analysis (the analysis of “how they did” not the analysis of “are these positions conducive to continued human civilization,” which I don’t think really exists) bullshit will be all over and viewing it is likely to injure you

I expect Biden to needle Trump about his COVID response, “losers and suckers,” and being a fake billionaire enough to solicit a reaction that defines the debate that causes GOP reactionary fallout for a few days. Probably saying something extraordinarily stupid, with Trump walking off the debate stage in anger mid-debate and later shit posting about it as the best I can realistically expect.

Normally I am not going to give Trump the attention, but the debates are one of the few events that almost certainly matter at least a little in a Presidential election. If it was just about who I was voting for in the general election, I could skip any political news at least until 2025.

I want to see just how often Biden can throw the taxes in his face. It should be very often. IMO they shouldn't even debate policy with him at this point, they should be highlighting that he's likely a broke criminal and unfit to hold office. His policy positions are irrelevant because he's compromised, and he's been refusing to pay in to the very government he's tasked with leading.

It does force the candidates to directly contrast each other with less overt over the top spin. Trump can say Biden is hiding in his basement dying of senility on FoxNews all day, but when Biden is next to him visibly more virile and coherent it makes that bullshit more obviously bullshit.

If it wasn't for sound bites and news clips on late night type shows like LWT, Colbert and Meyers, then I wouldn't have in the last couple years. If I see him on the news, or the like, I'll hit mute or change the channel. There's something about his voice/speech patterns, that even without the context of his words, is just offputting. Like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Add in the context of his words, and yeah, just blind rage, followed by constant bewilderment of people who actually cheer that shit on.

So, I'll be noping out of this, from a live perspective. Following whichever thread is allotted to it, and reading/listening to things after the fact. I mean, there's nothing that could happen that would change my mind, and as a non-citizen, it wouldn't influence my (lack of) vote.

Part of me is just flat out disgusted by the idea of Trump standing on the same stage as Joe Biden and being treated as some kind of equal. As a viable other party alternative for the office of President. Joe Biden isn't as progressive as a Democrat could be, and he just flat out gets some things wrong, but Joe Biden is still a good person who runs for office to enrich the lives of others, not himself and its just gross for him to have to stand next to Donald Trump.

Trump is such a degenerative garbage monster and has proven it time and time again over his Presidency that it makes me a little physically ill to think about a good faith debate between the two of them. I can't see or hear Trump anymore without thinking immediately of how many people have died of Covid19 specifically because he's a such a self centered coward.

He deserves to be rotting in a prison cell, not on a stage with people asking him questions like he's got any fucking clue about anything in his vapid trash head or gives one actual shit about anyone else but himself.

His speech pattern is of a southern baptist preacher 'explaining' the something to his congregation (his base). It works because people used to being talked to in this manner eat this shit up.

I heard it every Sunday as a child and its the most grating way words can exit the mouth of another human being. I cant stand it, and I get mad when I even hear the orange moron speak.

That being said, hopefully watching Biden stomp him in the ground during the debate may just be worth it.

Every time I've seen Trump confronted by someone that has actual follow-ups he falls apart at the seems or runs away from the podium.

He essentially has not had to "debate" anyone since Clinton. He did really badly there generally and just by watching rally videos from 4 years ago to now, you can see that even by Trump standards he's lost whatever sort of charisma or energy he had.

I give it a 20% chance he runs out of the debate. Biden just has to bring up how poor he is a few times and he will tailspin.

They've even been seeding friendly journalists in the press pool so they can run away from hard questions. I really suspect he's not ready, either mentally or temperamentally, for this.
