Do we know for sure that she's working for Vought?

Vought is the only group capable of making supers, and she is a super. If she wasn't working for Vought, they would have eliminated her long before she became a congressperson.

Vought is the only company making Compound V.

They aren’t the only group making supers, which has been a big part of the shows story.

Vought was aware of who in the company was using Compound V and that Homelander gave a few doses to terrorist organizations. I am confident that Homelander was asked how many doses he gave away and to whom.

Homelander killing the Supe in what I assume was Africa was him both advancing Vought's agenda AND him cleaning up the mess he made. To date, the Senator would be the only Supe in the show that Vought could be potentially unaware of. And given the meticulous nature of Vought in almost everything else (everything is data driven, for example), I think it's unlikely the Senator is a rogue Supe.

If I'm wrong, feel free to say "I told you so" when Season 3 drops.

If a movement doesn't have someone that can sit down opposite those in a position of power and strike a deal, how can that movement achieve success?

Just like Coca Cola has Pepsi and DC has Marvel, perhaps Vought on the show has a competitor in the super human enhancement market? (There is some humor in portraying an RC Cola 4rd tier competition to Vought's Coke)

Yeah, once the secret that the Supers were man made went public, the race to be Brand X Vought was on.
I'm thinking this means season 3 is likely to have a lot of weird supers as new super serums are developed and dropped on the market without the control of Vought and without people knowing that giving V to an adult may not generate flashy photogenic super powers, instead giving you stuff like head popping or prehensile dicks.
Should be interesting. Wonder if that means the boys are getting their own V, assuming they manage to stabilize it for adult use.

The scary part is that the head popping and prehensile dick are implied to be some of the better outcomes. Like Victoria Neuman is out there leading a mostly normal life, and Love Sausage at least isn't acid puke guy who somehow wasn't immune to his own acid or any of the others with incredibly bad mental issues. Granted we don't know if Love Sausage has severe mental issues (and he probably does) but he wasn't randomly punching the wall for no reason or catatonic.

Well the mental health issues where mostly implied because they where inmates at a mental hospital before given V. The guy Lamplighter burns was revealed to have been comited after a suicide attempt. Even Homelander is implied to be fucked up due to his upbringing and the fact that nobody could set anything but the bare minimum of boundaries.

So insanity might not be V based. Though it can't help.

I'd appreciate it personally, as someone who has watched the show but hasn't read the comics.

I think its a good idea to spoil the comics, because it branches off to a varying degree between wildly, and pulling in directly, dependent on a lot of different details.

    comic spoiler
Mothers milk is a supe in the show right? It's why at the end of the first season frenchie looks at him like hes the one that has to run out into gunfire when they are pinned?

I assume vought knows every child who could be a supe and if the treatment worked or not. I am thinking his mother was treated, but never showed any powers. But her son isnt watched, and so he was able to go unnoticed. If they go with the 'every supe is vought made' angle.

Spoiling the comic would spoil stuff about the show possibly, so I'd prefer all comic talk to be behind spoilers.

But since someone mentioned it already: They NEED powers at this point and to all team up to stand a damn chance. It's getting more and more ridiculous they aren't taken out:
Like what the hell was Homelander waiting for when Butcher said he wouldn't hand over his son? Lucky Butcher had Plot Armor! And Frenchy yelling out their only chance so it can be blown up was...

re: question in spoilers, that I'm confused why it's in spoilers if we're not putting show talk behind spoilers?

Anyway, while there's no lack of "plot armor" in the show, that specific instance is pretty easily explained. Homelander lands, sees Stormfront Anakin'd, has a general idea of her strength from boobie shooting, and more than likely would have a perfectly legitimate concern about whether or not a clearly upset kid could vaporize him, too, if he made a wrong move.

I think it's just assumed Homelander has Superman level toughness, but relative to other supers in the show, who also seem to have extremely high defense, it might not be above and beyond what, say, Stormfront or Translucent had. Also, Homelander likely doesn't know what effects his own powers would have on himself, and if his kid is even slightly more powerful, even in that one regard (or even if that's his only power), he could quite possibly end up as the same organ soup he's left many other people as.

About not-AOC, I wasn't shocked at the reveal, but I also wasn't terribly excited by it. But I viewed it different than everyone else seems to be? I'm not sure it was her doing the head-popping. As has been pointed out, she didn't have the eye effects in the hearing scene, and it doesn't make a lot of sense why they'd focus on it so much in the closing scene due to that. Maybe contacts? That seems pretty flimsy though. I suspect it was a complete misdirect; not necessarily that she is innocent (the smirk at the end was pretty unmistakable), but my theory is that the head popper is someone else entirely, who still might have been at the hearing; but in the end was using Neuman (I think was her name?) to pop the church duders head remotely. I think the eye cloud was using her eyes to get that line of sight. But I don't think the congresswoman is being used, I think she's complicit; but I believe the popper is someone else. My guess? Mallory.

If Mallory could explode heads LampLight would have been a fine mist. When she was going to off him she had her gun out.

Maybe. But she's also been part of the game long enough to be cold and calculating. She would also know that Lamplighter was just following orders, and she'd want vengeance on the people who put the wheels in motion that got her grandkids killed; killing him then and there would make it harder to get to the people who caused it. I've seen a couple videos of youtubers speculating that the congresswoman is working for Vought, and that her questioning in various scenes is trying to uncover anyone disloyal to them; but she is working very closely with Mallory, and the exact same lines of questioning could be looking to find out who was involved in getting her grandchildren killed.

I mean, I know that I'm more than likely wrong. I don't know how the head of not-scientology would fit into any of that. And part of it is just that it feels like it would be super lazy, given the context and content of the season, to play a "ooh, both sides are actually evil!" twist, and undermine their own narrative. Unless their actual narrative is that everyone is actually shit; but that doesn't seem to be the case, with Hughie being the stand-in for "everybody else", and going out of their way to depict him as a good person, regardless of how damaged or naïve. I don't want not-AOC to be the head popper, not because I care about the character, but because it feels like a super weak plot point, given how good everything else has been.

I think Victoria Neuman is Stan Edgar's agent.

When Raynor's head exploded, she had just been told about the imported super terrorist and declared that it was the missing piece, and that "it's a coup from the inside". I'm not entirely sure how this fits together but I think she was on to Neuman being a Vought plant.

The deaths at the council meeting generally fit into Edgar's agenda. I believe there was some element of just inducing chaos to it, but having Vogelbaum silenced is very convenient to the company and with the committee chairman dead, Neuman (and therefore Vought) is likely to be in charge of all Supe oversight. The death of Shockwave might have been considered an acceptable loss to Edgar to deflect attention from the company, and he did state later that Shockwave joining the Seven wasn't his preference.

Finally, removing Adana was an easy and obvious bit of cleanup after his files were used to out Stormfront. I don't know whether or not Edgar specifically intended for A-Train to overhear the conversation, but clearly Edgar knows that Alastair had a lot of dirt on a lot of Supes.

If she is a vought plant why is she anti-vought? Why not be pro-vought and then proven right? What if their dumb xanatos gambit fails? If she is pro-vought this is NBD but if she is anti-vought she will have to actually do something or they lose their mole....

What happens if a vought supe kills her? What happens if a domestic terrorist listening to vought rhetoric decides to arrest her and try her for Treason? You just created the mechanism to destroy your company! Why be anti-vought behind closed doors? Like they were talking with someone who supposedly had the ear of the President and really did try to convince him to bring vought down. If she is an asset she is the worst asset ever. She didn’t even change her tune to be pro-vought after the terrorist attack on her that would maybe allow her to do so! (Though the argument that supes are going to save you is pretty fucking dumb since the two most powerful supes were right there and did shit)

She could be a plant for another organization sure, but for vought it just makes zero sense, and her being an asset for something else has its own problems. Like, watch her be a sleeper communist supe that is also 80 years old because both sides are bad.

But this was Homelanders plot. So the only way it would be a coup from the inside would be if Edgar was going to bring a super terrorist to the states, and then blame Homelander for it.... which makes no sense because Edgar is already head of the company (maybe the plot is to kill homelanders kid? Still dumb. Also he doesn’t seem to have contacts with the terrorists)

So she could be working for homelander. (She could maybe have but did not kill either homelander or stormfront at the attack after all. And if working for Edgar and could have, would have). Which while this would make it clear why homelander didn’t kill her like he did the politician in season 1. It would not explain why he got so dumb mad when she pulled the rally which would have been all part of the plan and so not caused him to overreact terribly...

So what she is a Brazilian Nazi? Stormfronts Daughter? This has all the same problems as being a mole for Edgar. And of course See “both sides”....

The reason to be anti-Vought is to co-opt and quash any oversight from the inside. Oversight is inevitable now that V is public, but now Vought is positioned to get ahead of anything that comes out of it.

    Controlled opposition is really useful.
Not that I think Newman will be content to just remain as a honeypot for people who could inconvenience Vought given that....

    Comics:
.. apparently, she's the show's version of Vic the Veep.
So I wouldn't be surprised if S3 does a little bit of a timeskip forward to a point where she's on, or looks certain to be on, the presidential ticket and Hughie finally pulls his head from his ass long enough to put two and two together, leading to the band having to have a reunion.

This season? There was no congressional oversight or public outcry for it. She had to create the power base. Next season, we will probably see her picking and choosing which cases see the light of day and trading favors for others.

Am I misremembering the vought asylum bit, but the escaped supe was exploding heads yes?

She was crushing people, completely different.

She seemed to have a general telekinesis, like didn't she rip a door off his hinges?

Ah, yea, she does rip doors off hinges (or well, crinkles them up), but she also explodes a dude (or apparently crushes), so I ended up assuming through the rest of the season that she was the one blowing people's heads up. Particularly the first time it happened out of the blue when that agent lady was meeting with Butcher. It made sense that Vought would specifically have a head-popping assassin on hand.

It just turned out to not even be close to what was going on.

Well she was a red herring to throw you off the congresswoman. Including having a blood bath in the court room to make it look like it was random and not targeted.

She has telekinesis and can explode entire people. I think she was clearly supposed to be a red herring.

I don't see why she has to be working for anybody. She's a politician, she gains power for herself and maintains it by never actually solving the problem she's in charge of. She's just guarding the current state so she can make her living rallying against it.

I think I have expressed my displeasure already with the terrible both sides are bad takes. But like... why then does she honestly argue and work for to progress her agenda?

This season? There was no congressional oversight or public outcry for it. She had to create the power base. Next season, we will probably see her picking and choosing which cases see the light of day and trading favors for others.

I'm also not generally a fan of both sides arguments, especially not in an election year. I think it was bad casting to evoke an AOC vibe from her.

So let me get this straight...

In order for to protect vought you must create the power base, congressional oversight, and public support to destroy it?

    That seems ... counterproductive.

The idea is if they didn't run it it would be there with or without them. Like there would be opposition to supes in the government, but with the congresswoman they can wholesale run it and know its toothless.

But it wasn’t there without them...they did all the work for the opposition!

It was there in season 1. We had defense secretary Bobby saying they couldn't be in the military. And someone was giving Mallory money and funds through the CIA to pursue Vought. There was an opposition it just wasn't under their control like it is now.

It's the same reason Big Banking/Big Oil/Monsanto/Etc donates to various politicians on both sides AND have lobbyists on their payroll.

If a movement doesn't have someone that can sit down opposite those in a position of power and strike a deal, how can that movement achieve success?
