I picked up one of these controllers. Aside from the apparently traditional issue that third-party controllers can't wake the Switch from sleep mode, and occasionally not establishing connection first time, its other flaw seems to be that the sensitivity on the sticks is too high, so subtlety of control becomes an issue in some games. But otherwise it's well-built and comfortable, rumble is good (traditional style, not HD), battery life is supposedly fine (rechargeable off USB-C, cable included), and considering it was a whopping £11 off eBay I'm not going to grumble.
I wish the Pro controller was a little cheaper, but this will do until I eventually get one of them and it'll make a perfectly acceptable second controller after that.
So, Killer Queen Black is on sale. I never did buy it, though I’ve heard nothing but good things. But I’m still not convinced. It’s only 90% off on the eShop. Even though it seems to be like universally praised, is it actually worth $1.99 with tax.
Mario Party, Mario U Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis, and Yoshi's World are all $30 off in Canada. Since first party games are the standard $80, and they never go on sale outside the rare blue moon... well there's a blue moon on now so now's the time. Just picked up Deluxe. I have both it and Luigi's on the Wii U, but I got them so late I never really played them.
I should do a tally, I'm pretty sure I now have on the Switch almost every single Mario game. Excluding the DS/3DS ones, and 3D World (...yet).

I've only played 4 local vs online, never solo but this game is so damn fun.

i did want to mention that the powera wireless controllers do wake the switch from sleep mode, just have to hold the home button. In fact, i think my beboncool one does also, i'll double check that later. might give it a shot, have to hold it for like 5 seconds.
I think the rule of thumb is that officially licensed controllers and many Chinese clones can wake the Switch. Like there's some kind of proprietary mumbo jumbo that makes emulating this functionality without permission less than legal. Seems like something similar going on with joycon clones that can actually connect to the rails.
I've been doing pretty well in this, got 1st place a few more times and 2nd and 3rd quite a bit.
If you are playing this game, do yourself a favor and look up the maps for the correct paths through the castles in advance! I have 8-4 memorized (always the first pipe past the lava), and 4-4 isn't too hard, but I think there are one or two others that I have absolutely no idea about and have to look up.

Seriously? Dudes asking for a cheaper 3rd party alternative to the pro controller and no one has mentioned the one thats 10x better and is the king of 3rd party Switch controllers?
I bought The Survivalists Deluxe Edition today. Someone please tell me this is like Lost in Blue. That game has left an unfulfilled hole in my heart.
Please report back but I doubt it from a quick glance. I too was lost in Lost in Blue memories on seeing it pop up.
I haven’t gotten deep into it but if certainly feels like it. It just doesn’t seem to have the hallmark “I’m taking care of a semi-blind girl” that Lost in Blue had, at least so far.
Wasn’t Lost in Blue itself the ancestor of another game, something with monkeys or whatever?

Lost in Blue was a continuation of the Survival Kids series

Hold the phone can i play pokemon with that teal controller even though it doesnt have joysticks? All ive wanted in a new pokemon game is to return to no joysticks.
Also i keep seeing nexemon recommended places, anyone give it a whirl?

The d-pads function as the analog sticks, albeit only in 8 directions. Great for Link's Awakening or a retro dual-stick game like Xenocrisis. Pretty much every 2D game lets you use the left analog to move anyway so these match up great. How well it works for pokemon comes down to whether you need anything more precise than 8-directional movement.

Those SNES-looking controllers amaze me. They look like they come from some alternate universe where the Playstation and the N64 both never happened.
Although, looking back, introducing twin analog sticks without the N64 showing the strengths and limitations of a single analog stick would have been an unthinkable risk for anyone, even an alternate universe Nintendo in a perpetual golden age.
Heads up: as part of Prime Day tomorrow, Amazon will have a bundle with a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership and a SanDisk 128GB card for 36 percent off. (Not sure what the actual price is.)
Well, here's one of the wackier concepts I've seen coming to Switch
Remember B-Daman? Those little robots that shot marbles out of their chests? Well, they're back, and they're now eco-friendly, swapping out the marbles for bottle caps.
These new versions of the toys are launching with a special dock that turns your Switch into a target gallery to shoot your bottle caps at.
It even comes with a protective screen. https://youtu.be/EJXm3XksFQs
There's even an animated series to go along with it, where angry, spiky haired kids with names based on soft drinks battle each other with bottle caps, while bottle themed anime girls cheer them on and everything behind them explodes. https://youtu.be/ORvpOk0HjO0
I am getting ready to hopefully acquire Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit on Friday release. I was initially distraught to learn the box does not include the game (!) so I thought I would share what I have gathered here:
- Box has 1 kart (Mario or Luigi), the 4 track gates and 2 track signs
- There is no announced plan to sell a standalone kart.
- The game will be free to download on the store.
- To play mutliplayer, both parties will need their own switch, a physical kart and the software downloaded.
I still think it should come with a physical game cartridge for $99. I plan to buy 2 karts for some outdoor rooftop* track building with friends. It would be easier to share a cartridge but having them download it for free ahead of time will work okay.
Its more like (further?) confirmation that the Layton series is dead.
I might be wrong, but haven't other publishers, such as Nintendo, published Level 5's games in the west? Even if they don't have a base in the west anymore, shouldn't Level 5 still be able to reach out to western publishers to bring over new games?
Sometimes I get self conscious about my friend list and that feature that tells you what everybody is playing. Because no doubt there are people in the world saying "Who the fuck is this freak who's always playing that Katrielle Layton game???". And I'm just lowkey addicted to the daily puzzles.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
The funniest game announcement I ever saw was on Steam, and it popped up "FRIEND is playing TOTALLY NOT PORN." I usually dislike when popups interrupt my immersion but that one time was great.

At least on Steam you can add something external to Steam and name it whatever you want. So people will name the Windows calculator or something Cyberpunk 2077 Beta or somesuch.

The Switch version has daily puzzles? It just goes to show how terrible the original release was.
Did they do anything to fix the puzzles themselves? The original version felt like a collection of puzzles that were cut from the previous games because they sucked, and Level 5 just decided to use anyway. I know the new version advertised itself as having "some" of the original puzzles.

I like mine (SN30 Pro+). Bought it mainly because the Pro Controllers d-pad is balls and while I'm not a fan of the stick placement:
The controller grips are larger so it doesn't make my hand cramp up like all of the Sony controllers do
You can do per-connection input mapping so Xinput games on the PC can have Y and X in their proper places
It remembers your Bluetooth pairing per mode, so if you want to change between your Switch and PC you don't need to pair it again each time.
The analog triggers are a bit weird since you're usually just using them as buttons, but I didn't have any issues with the semi-automatic weapons in Splatoon 2.
Rollers are red, chargers are blue....omae wa mou shindeiru
I needed a new exercise game, so I picked up Fire Emblem Warriors.
Fucking thing begins with like a 10 minute montage of people shouting about friendship.
"Our bonds give us strength!"
"Believe in your friends and we can win!"
"We won't let you defeat the might of our friendship!"
"We can get through anything so long as we work together!"
"Don't be afraid! We have our friends at our sides!"
I had to fucking shut it off and jog in the rain instead. Christ, Japan. You need a fucking intervention.
