Fracking is one of the few new sources of income which has come to rural America the past few decades - companies roll in, pay for the use of your land, pump income into the local community via temporary construction jobs, etc.

I'm not sure if you're arguing for fracking or just pointing out why it's popular, but what happens when those fracking sites are no longer profitable? This is just the next evolution of coal towns. As someone from PA, I don't exactly see fracking as a long term solution but as another way to loot poor areas, then cut and run and leave locals to pick up the pieces.

I really wish Harris would point out that Fracking regulation should be left to the states, many of which have banned it.
Also, the free market is killing coal and fracking; they need oil to be $70/barrel for those operations to be profitable. Increased production in the middle east is killing all new fracking operations.

As I look at what's going on. Both of them make sense as VPs. They aren't as inspiring, bold, or active on the stage as their heads of the ticket.

They are distilled gestalt versions of what their educated bases on both sides want.

Pence is actually good at this. The way he speaks, his tone, his rhythm. Obviously the content is bullshit. But maybe I've become far to used to hearing people like trump speak.

    I'm really confused.

Why does Pence think Biden and Harris want to ban futuristic Cylon sex?

Much like the previous shit-show, I appreciate that every time she gets 2 minutes, Harris takes an opportunity to look into the camera and talk to America.

Pence has done that exactly once and looked distinctly uncomfortable doing it (with his weird left covid-eye).

Oh. Obama had a pandemic team. I didn't know about that.

  • QuidQuid Definitely not a banana Registered User regular
Harris same question: "The Trump admin's approach to China has resulted in the loss of American lives, jobs, and standards. There's a weird obsession Trump has had to get rid of every accomplishment of Obama and Biden. They got rid of the pandemic team. They got rid of the monitors in China."

She's dodging it but I get not wanting to sum up an incredibly complex topic like that in two minutes.

a team and an action plan in place for literally this situation, developed after the ebola crisis that actually made it to the US

trump fired the team and scrapped the action plan

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

I mean I am for fracking, but it’s because I think we should be working for energy security. I also think we should be using large scale nuclear wind and solar.

Pence is a slimy nightmare hiding in a nice suit, and Kamala is treating him like a child, which is great. But then she's like "we're not gonna ban fracking!" and I'm like...but maybe you could though?

Pence is okay. This is what normal debates look like. Trump turned every GOP debate into a carnival during his primary and every debate since his nomination into a horror show. Pence is just acting like a normal, adult human politician. He hits his talking points. He hasn't said anything actually inspiring or impressive or made any solid points against Harris. Trump's just driven our expectations so low that he looks good by not shitting himself.

Yeah I agree, but clearly Biden and Harris decided to back away from the hardline on fracking.

Did I miss something? Is there a huge portion of the electorate that cares deeply about keeping up on fracking?

a huge portion of trump's electorate

How the hell did they get people to fold fracking into identity politics? To the point that Biden is afraid of being seen as anti-fracking? What the fuck?

Cleek's Law is a very real thing - there are a lot of people who incorporate something (or opposing something) into their worldview on a fundamental level specifically because people they see as liberals have a different opinion on it. Think all the people without an iota of tech background who suddenly started having really strong opinions about net neutrality within hours of Obama first saying something favoring it.

Past that, the oil/gas industry has a kind of mass siege mentality going on. Question any part of it and you're The Enemy because it clearly means you hate the whole thing.

I'm not sure how broad a question it is to ask a candidate their general opinions regarding another foreign power and how such can impact the American voter. It isn't like CHINA is Some Country I Can't Name. It's CHINA.
