Hey guys thanks for updating the thread for peeps who can't watch. I have a question because I keep hearing about this pence eye thing. Is it like sweaty Nixon distracting for the viewer or just an unfortunate case of the eyes butts?

Harris and Biden can't answer the court packing question because it's a trap.

The right thing to do is point out that Republicans have literally done that since Obama's term, and anything Biden/Harris would do would correct that gross misuse of power that enshrined a minority over a majority.

Joe Biden said HE is the Democratic Party in the presidential debate. That same party that has been chewing at the idea of stuffing the Supreme Court if (in all likelihood) Biden wins. If Biden is at odds with that then it is hardly a "trap" to get a straight answer on their plans for SCOTUS.

It's a trap because if they say "no" they're demotivating the liberal base. If they say "yes" they're hyper-charging the conservative base.

    Precisely.

That's why I think Trump directly told him, specifically, to do it. There is no way a basically competent politician and his debate prep team could have watch the first debate, seen the media and public reaction, and thought, "Sure, talking over the other candidate and the moderator - at length - is a good look."

I mean, it's not like it's illegal to pack the Supreme Court. Nothing in the law of Constitution against it. It's a tradition not to, but the GOP has spent the last few years saying "Fuck tradition" so there isn't any moral high ground involved.

Pack the Court. It's political anyway and always has been, so might as well just let the party the people elected govern the way they want. We'll just switch the Court back and forth when presidents change. It'll be more democratic than the whole "Wise council appointed for life" bullshit we got going now.

Yeah, he's definitely not doing it at Trump level, but he's been coached against it which restrains him a bit.

    Still a real bad look.

The moderator quickly correcting herself for saying, "Kamala Harris" instead of Senator Harris and Kamala accepting and taking no offense was very nice.

Pence keeps calling her Kamala. It's kind of patronizing and there's no way it's accidental. It's misogyny, trying to make people uncomfortable with a foreign sounding name or both.

It's making me angry at him and previously I didn't care about him at all as a human being. Which isn't to say I liked him or his policies, just that behaviorally I felt nothing.

E: listening on a YouTube stream and I feel like I might be behind.

I just want to note, very belatedly, that this is what he did last time as well. Think about how many times he described the need for 'broad-shouldered' leadership last time around.

Impeachment is the only way to get removal, and that's a 2/3rds vote in the Senate.

I'm unsure if they changed the law they could institute limits on terms, but that would likely bump up against constitutional language saying they can stay during "good behavior."

Final topic is the election itself.

"Trump has several times refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power. What steps will you and Biden take if he refuses?"

"Joe and I are proud of the coalition of our campaign. Look at all these republicans who even support us. Because Biden fights for the integrity of Democracy. What I'd like to say to everyone is vote. Vote early, set a date to vote. If we use our vote we will win and we will not let anyone subvert our democracy like Trump discouraging voting. While Biden said just vote. So I say again, just vote."

"What would your role in this be Pence?"

"Well we're going to win anyway. We're super great. The best. When you talk about accepting the outcome of the election, Dems spent the last three years disputing the last one. The FBI even spied on our campaign."

i suppose the idea that we're relitigating the past by doing so could be seen as a reason not to

i don't agree with that viewpoint at all but the Democratic party has certainly suffered from it before

    Allegedly a voice of reason.

I think they should charge Trump with all of the illegal shit he's done as president, find him guilty of all the things of which he is provably guilty, and then impeach every single judge he nominated on the basis that they were selected by a corrupt, felonious president as well as the gross incompetence and lack of experience most of them have.
