I don't even think an 80s/90s style blowout is even possible in the current political climate, so this is probably about as good as it gets polling-wise.

Biden should do the debate alone and every couple minutes pause and then say "Oh, sorry, I was waiting to be interrupted."

I think that’s going to be the quote I save to memorialize this period of history.

Carter did not go to one debate in 1980 because independent actually a Republican John B. Anderson was going to attend as well.

Probably did not work out well for Carter.

He went unhinged because he's severely mentally ill.

I figure he's high on steroids and other meds and is putting his worst personality traits into overdrive, and his usual minders are all sick with COVID and can't be around him to stop him.

Honestly, I think forget the jokes. Lay it out:

"Here's the thing with these interruptions: Clearly Trump's strategy is not actually engage in debate with me under any circumstances, and for the viewers at home to not hear me speak. Ask yourself: why is that Donald's strategy?"

And whatever they have him on for COVID isn’t doing him any favors. I mean, between the current news, the steroids and the obvious oncoming dementia, he can’t be solid mentally. I mean, his most recent interview on Fox Business proves that. They were trying to end it but he just wouldn’t stop ranting and raving about Obama, Clinton, Biden... crazy racist grandpa is crazy racist grandpa-ing and they don’t have the backbone to take his phone or 25th him. They’re actively trying to cover his ass but he can’t help waving it around and shitting on the driveway.

Biden just needs to point to him and ask if this is the “stable genius” we want running the damn country in a pandemic. You can’t hide this shit.

Really, Biden should just ignore trump and focus purely on what he intends to do unless the question specifically asks about it during his hypothetical debate.

Yeah, don’t give him any unnecessary attention.

Not talking about Trump is a good way to get him to bazooka his own foot off. We’ve seen that multiple times.

She is also politically inert; she holds no office nor has shown no interest in running for one so any time spent on her is just a waste of breath.

The whole "why isn't she indicted" question from Fox... my conservative family has two opinions when last this came up:
    • Non-coolaid: They tried and things were just legal enough for her to get away with it, move on
    • Coolaid: Trump failed at his job of getting Hilary and he had four years, but wasted it tweeting and ruining our trade (several folks rely on Chinese imports for their companies).

None of them are Joe Biden so... I don’t think they are going to do well with that strategy

This. As much fun as it is to see anyone dunking on Trump - it only gives the media cover to both-sides this shit. Just ignore him and continue to lay out what you are gonna do for the country. Trump will inevitably dunk on himself anyway, so might as well just tell people how you are gonna change the country.

It's not even attention for trump, it's an opportunity for Biden to show what his plans are and who he is as a candidate without having to talk over a spoiled toddler.

Like, doing an uninterrupted town hall is pure win for biden served on a silver platter by team trump, and because trump is such a petty shitlord he'll watch the whole thing and ragetweet about how mean the media is for not giving him the attention he deserves despite how a remote debate would be to his advantage.

If it’s just Biden and no Trump I think it’s 50/50 media carries it at all. Trump will set up a press conference or impromptu rally or something and they’ll cover that instead.

This. Especially AOC and Bernie. The Trump campaign keeps trying to tie Biden to the so-called radical Left that's supposed to be represented by those two, which is hilarious. Do they even know who Joe Biden is?

I mean, yeah, to Trump's base any Democrat is some sort of zombie Marx-Stalin Voltron, but that's definitely not how people not drinking the Kool-Aid sees things. And those aren't the people who matter since they'll be voting for Trump anyway.

    Doubtful.

The 4 debates are something that have been around for decades and skipping them is almost unheard of for a sitting president. If trump's campaign had admitted that their candidate was too sick to do one then that might have given them an out, but skipping out on it so he can just jerk off into his own face at a rally would be the sort of idiocy that they're sick of. Meanwhile Biden behaving like a president should, with maturity, grace, decency and responsibility is a sort of old school flavor hat I could see them going for.

Besides which, it would be trivial to point out that there is no evidence that trump isn't still contagious nor that he isn't high as a fucking kite.

There was a third party person who was on the poll who has since dropped out and endorsed Graham though, so take that how you will.

If Biden wins, I would love to see Hillary come out of retirement as his Sec State.

For one, she's probably the most qualified person in the world to begin to repair the past four years of damage to one of our most important institutions.

For two, watching the right wing absolutely lose their shit will be hilarious and fun.

I know that's skirting verbooten topics but I think 'who will Biden pick for cabinet' is a valid question to ask for the 2020 election.

I think the media will cover the 10/15 debate if Biden does it alone. It's already on their schedule and a town hall is Biden answering real people questions. It's an easy thing to do.

It's also an opportunity for them to cover the debate that trump was too weak/petulant/sick/arrogant to attend and as I've pointed out when you are a sitting president you don't have the luxury of skipping debates and especially not when you are averaging double digits behind your opponent.

The OTA networks might drop it but the cable networks would almost certainly still run it, as would CSPAN.
