Ok, I would like to make a dessert for my parents because it's their 25th anniversary, they're going to a baseball game tonight and I would like to make them some sort of dessert while they are gone. So it would need to be able to be constructed in about 2 hours, which may or may not be possible, if it's not Ill just settle for a real nice card, no big deal. They don't have any food allergies, and I dont think theres anything they just despise. So Im lookin for recipes, or good places to find a recipe.
I know it's a little last minute, but the dessert idea just popped into my head and I like it if its possible.
Newe York Style Cheescake, with a twist. take new or cleaned out BBQ injectors fill one with strawberry jame and a second with caramel. inject a small layer into the cheese at even points around the whole cake.

Drizzle with caramel and choclate.
I assume the injecting would be prior to baking it, correct?
And while I havent been searching for long, I havent found a recipe that doesnt call for a springform pan, and I dont have one of those, and I know my mom probly wouldnt use one, and I might not either. Plus, unless I could get it at the grocery store it would be kinda difficult to do all during the ball game.
So, cheesecake, good idea, lookin for a recipie that doesnt require a springform pan.
- One box of Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry sheets
- A thing of fresh strawberries
- Some Cool Whip Extra Creamy
- One box of Jello Instant Vanilla Pudding
- Haagen-Dazs strawberry sorbet
- Powdered sugar
The puff pastry will come in two sheets, folded lengthwise in thirds. Unfold one sheet and cut it into strips along the creases. Cut into smaller squares, you should get about 12 of them. Bake in the oven as prescribed on the box. You will get about twelve puffy squares.
Mix the pudding with milk as prescribed on the box, EXCEPT use 1/3 of the milk they say. This will make a thicker custard. Put it in the fridge to set.
Slice strawberries into 1/4" thick slices.
When the pastries are done let them cool for a bit, then split them in half. Layer: pastry, custard, strawberries, pastry, custard, strawberries, etc. Top with whipped cream.
Optional: bust out the food processor and puree some strawberries. Heat over low-medium until bubbling and mix in powdered sugar to thicken. This will make a rich strawberry sauce that you can drizzle over the concoction.
Dust with powdered sugar and serve with small scoops of strawberry sorbet on the plate to the side.
Ok, Imma put the strawberry thing aside for a later date cause that sounds delicious.
Im going to attempt the cheesecake in time for them to eat it, would putting it in the freezer screw anything up? Could I do that to shave off an hour or two on the setting process?
Gosh you Americans do some crazy stuff to your food.
Baklava is a good suggestion, but probably a bit fiddly for a 2-hour time-frame.
I'd recommend a creme brulee or creme caramel. They're both absolutely classic recipes, small, sophisticated, and easily made. Serve with good-quality store-bought vanilla ice-cream and/or thickened cream, and you're set. You can google the recipes easily (I'd provide one, but I don't know if you're metric or imperial).
Thanks for all the suggestions! Ill file these away for when I get myself into another fix like this.
I chose the cheesecake and when I stuck it in the oven (in a makeshift waterbath, damnit why didnt my mom have a pan big enough to use as a water bath?) it looked like a cheesecake so heres hopin I did it right. Unfortunately it looks like because of traffic and equipment malfunctions (OH GOD! WHY IS THE MIXER STUCK ON HIGH! CHEESECAKE EVERYWHERE!!!) it wont be ready untill tomorrow. Oh well, they can look at it and anticipate the deliciousness it will bring tomorrow.
