The X1 version. There are so many little things they messed up on.
One dumb thing they fucked up was external clothing decorations. Franklin could purchase letterman's jackets and they would have various patches on them. But now, you only get the jacket, no patches.
In the mission where you scout the harbour as Trevor, Wade is forced to clean up a septic mess. When he shows back up, his coveralls have a weird graphic that took me a moment to place. It's the band logo on his default shirt.
I just did the Paleto Bank heist and the gunman (in this case Packie, but I don't think that mattered) was wearing a suit with odd textures. It turned out they were the Bugstars coverall logos from the jewel store heist.
I think related to the physics are that the vehicles feel 'heavier' somehow. And I think it's why I've killed so many people in head on collisions. It was a neat touch in IV that some collisions killed the other drivers, but it just happens so often now it's kind of pathetic.
AI drivers would dodge out of your way if you were driving toward them. Now they do it a bit earlier by turing directly into your lane. Makes me think the AI prediction is super aggressive and figures you'll keep driving straight passing them on the right. Even if you aren't going very fast or have just come around a blind curve.
AI drivers will turn left from a non-turning lane. Or will oddly veer into the right lane only to immediately return to the original lane. Cars will crowd lanes at stop lights making it difficult to get through or around. And I still can't figure out why the AI won't go on green this time, but will the next. Or why pedestrian crossing lights are not synced to red/green lights.

I actually haven't seen one in a while, I was actually thinking about that the other day. My roommates have a sizeable 360 library with many of those old expired code cards in the cases. I think I even have an unscratched original Xbox code as well.
Cleared Control's main campaign, which just leaves the Foundation DLC to play with before I move on.
Thoughts, non-spoiley:
-Considering I floundered trying the Expedition (which I now find out was free, post release DLC) mode for a while and went through the whole AWE DLC, the ending was laughably easy to beat, combat wise.
-They at least saved something very strong for the ending stretch of the game, the Ashtray Maze was very nice.
-Saying "the fight isn't over, go do random alerts and find collectibles" is pretty lame. Like, I appreciate the post game play around mode with no hassle, but don't write it like it's this ongoing adventure because it's definitely not.
-Wildly differing quality of content going on in this game. That would be one of the two biggest upgrades I'd want to see in a sequel. Make ALL of the sidequests as good as the mushroom hunt or certain altered item hunts, and don't bother with the rest of it. The alerts were just a pain in the ass to flash up and make noise while you were elbows deep in another questline. The other big upgrade is difficulty balancing because I have no idea what kind of playtesters they utilize. The assist modes keep the game playable at any skill level, but having no easy, normal, hard modes but instead a sort of "the game is generally very very easy for a skilled player of shooters, but any enemy can two hit kill a max level player" was idiotic. The rematch against Tommasi and the final battle against Hartman in the AWE DLC were extremely unreasonably designed. Having a death currency penalty was stupid, why would you make players who tend to die a lot upgrade their gear more slowly? Players who die a lot clearly need MORE upgrades! I swear Dark Souls put worms in game designers' brains.
-For the next game, create more interesting opportunities to use the different guns, maybe even make certain enemies weak to certain ones. I used Grip for 99% of the game and everything else just to try it now and again. Rip out the entire RNG mod system and just make it fixed upgrades that you find in set locations (to make exploration worthwhile) and let us use currency to upgrade our favorite ones. More than three Personal mods next time too, that was dumbfoundingly limited.
-If you're going to do some cosmetic outfits, making the default be by far the coolest one with only one or two of the others things you'd ever want to look at was... a choice. Ah yes, let me dress like a victim of government interrogation and abuse, that's the style I've been missing this whole game! (I like the mirror one and the professional look is fine, but I don't care for it at all). And I see that there were pre-order only outfits, which somehow didn't make it to the "Ultimate" edition... this publisher seriously sucks ass.
-Get a better writer for Jesse's interior monologues next time, or delete them. She's not clever or rebellious or full of angst, she's just... kind of awkward and existing.
Spoiley thoughts:
-Brain raped hell being portrayed as... some flavor of the jobs I've worked most of my life is... well that's just great. No feelings about that, no siree.
-No unique boss mob for the finale? That's a bizarre choice. The mushrooms sidequest and some of the Altered Objects you have to deal with get unique bosses to fight, and then the finale of the whole game gets very easy waves of normal dudes to clear.
-Okay so the nature of the Hiss was pushed to potential sequels, as was Jesse's brother and his bizarre comments that Jesse wasn't real in some sense. Was Jesse actually supposed to have killed Director Trench or was that just some kind of metaphor? Did the Board turn on him and have the Service Weapon kill him as we arrived?
-I know they deliberately withheld this, but do we think the Janitor is a Board member in disguise or simply attuned to certain things that keep him safe and able to move where others would die?
-Hedron... A bunch of questions there. Did Jesse's brother's actions kill it, or was it dead already when Trench fell to the Hiss? Was it trying to awaken innate powers in both Jesse and her brother and the brother went dark with his powers, so the awakening didn't turn out correctly? Need some more info on that. See also: the source of Jesse's impressive powers was tuning to Altered Objects, but her brother just had some built in ones enough to hurt people? Or did the Bureau attune him to stuff as a way of testing what he could do?
-Kind of lame we don't get to see any visual of the end of Darling. Him turning into light or exploding or getting vaporized or SOMETHING. I'm aware the one person you meet and who runs off is for the Foundation DLC, so I won't complain at all about that just yet.

Welp - I guess I am returning the xbox headphones. there is no way for them to work correctly in my office due to the wifi of my neighbors. It's not enough to wreck any of my other stuff but there is JUUUUUST enough bleed on 2.4Ghz to make it untenable, and Microsoft doesn't let you play with channels to find something stable.
I went out and spent $texas on the Arctis Pro Wireless as it also had dual bluetooth/direct wireless for my PC, and despite it also using 2.4Ghz, it has been rock solid for hours and sounds better - as it should, it costs 3x what the xbox wireless ones did.
If they work for you, they might be the best overall wireless cans you can buy for console; especially at the pricepoint. Shame they didn't for me.

What does it sound like when you're getting the interference? My headphones should arrive today and I just checked, I can pick up 3 different wifi sources on my phone in my office, but like 16 networks on my laptop. Also, did you notice the interference when it was just connected to the Xbox? I'm probably not going to use these for listening to anything else while I'm playing.

stuttering, and then drops. It would happen completely at random, but I suspect it is because stuff happening one floor below me was the cause.
At 4am I had zero interference. I was dealing with constant drops during normal hours.
I was connected to a PC using the same xbox wireless protocol the consoles use. Even with nothing else connected like bluetooth, it would happen. I also hardwired everything in my office and turned off all mobile devices to make sure it wasn't one of mine.
Sucks, but what can you do? The new headphones have been in use all day without any issue whatsoever.

What the hell? There's an updated Republic Commando coming out in 2 weeks and it's going to Switch and PS but not Xbox?
A couple of old LucasArts games have gotten this treatment--almost all of them seem to be available via the BC program, which might have something to do with it. The one exception I immediately remember is Jedi Outcast, though Jedi Academy (which is better, I think) is available via BC.
Reached the end of the road with Control today, closed out the questlines of the Foundation DLC. Thankfully, that was a great way to end it as I think it's possibly the strongest content in the game overall. Once again, breaking it down by non-spoilers and spoiler content.
Speaking generally, the two new powers are fun... but I wanted the Creating power on a different button than Throw. Multiple times I was thwarted from using a spike trap I was hovering my cursor on because Jesse eagerly grabbed something from offscreen to throw. The lore and sidequests are literally all good in Foundation, which puts AWE into sharper relief with its shit post level audio tapes mixed in there and "pixel hunt for trash in a small area" masquerading as content. The final boss was even fun, another stark point of comparison between the two. Finally, this DLC was about THIS game and did good character work with Jesse (and other characters I'll get into in the spoilers). Probably the only bad thing I can say about it plotwise is that the Hiss feel completely played out as a threat by this point, you're mainly thinking about other stuff the whole time and the Hiss are like... robocalls that keep interrupting your day. Whereas in AWE, the villain feels dangerous as all hell, and the addition of darkness as a new problem for Jesse to grapple with puts her more on the back foot, like she is throughout the main campaign.
I love the focus on the Board and the Oldest House and The Former, all of that shit. Give it to me. It's so much more interesting than the Hiss and Jesse's edgelord brother. I like how there's enough there to give all kinds of hints of where the story could go next, but nothing just drop dead simple. The intrigue with former Directors and what the Bureau is vs what it could be was also interesting. I don't think Marshall adds much, unfortunately. She's uh... tough? Independent? It almost feels like they wanted her to be Amanda Waller or something, and they did about as well as the first Suicide Squad movie did (aka, she's a nothing character who you sort of low key dislike at best). Jesse's reactions were on the whole better written in this but... why is she still talking to Polaris? Is there some kind of echo still in her brain responding to her? Or is it supposed to be the equivalent of the "talking to the dead loved one and imagining what they would say in this situation" trope? Pope being engaged in the story as a companion is infinitely superior to having Langdon's "comedic relief" to give you a break from the horror elements in AWE. Remedy's writing just wasn't funny enough to pull that off correctly. Not sure what the point of the argument Pope and Jesse have right before the ending was supposed to be though. That Jesse is headstrong or has a savior complex? They'll have to start developing that idea basically from scratch if they do a Control 2, so it just felt kind of out of place here.
Final notes, Foundation crashed on me a bunch and I seemed to have broken a quest before I thankfully fixed it. Technically, they continue to need to fix their shit with this. It's not Bethesda or Obsidian level by any means, but it is extremely noticeable.

Anyone remember Josef Fares and that infamous rant of his at the TGA's that one year? Well he's put it in his latest game ('It Takes Two') as a masterfully executed Easter Egg:
BRIAN BLESSEDMaybe you aren't SPEAKING LOUDLY ENOUGHHHRegistered Userregular
I think part of Josef Fares' charm lies in the fact that his entire personality is like, openly that of a sleazebag used-car salesman-slash-weed-dealer so you can be comfortable with knowing whatever he says is kinda full of shit (I fucking cracked up when he addressed Keighley in his trailer presentation with "my man"), but the philosophy he carries with him also has a nugget of truth in a certain light. Games can absolutely be enjoyable in a cinematic way but big-budget game devs need to stop completely and utterly fixating on validating themselves by the metric of cinema and film alone.
I don't hold it against Keighley for finding money where he can but his 2020 awards show was especially egregious - it smacked of dressing itself in the guise of Hollywood to make it look valid from the eyes of outsiders in a way that felt really desperate. Games can be like film and television but the greatest of its potential lies in its interactivity and high budget creative work can be so much more than just following the aspirations of crusty entertainment industries decades older.
Apropos of nothing really, It Takes Two looks fucking bonkers and although I do give the premise of the story a side-eye at the very least it looks engaging enough in a way that doesn't necessarily map to more traditional storytelling. Which is cool
thinking about picking one of these up to add a little space to my series S. I know it won't run the enhanced games but it does give me a decent addon.
Hitman 3 is doing a weird demo-esque thing. Looks like it will periodically have various Hitman levels available for a limited time. This weekend is the first level of 3 and the opening mission of 2.
Also, if you own Hitman 1 and/or 2, you can play the levels in the Hitman 3 Starter Pack, and get unlocks and progression you can use in the pack and in the full game.

Final notes, Foundation crashed on me a bunch and I seemed to have broken a quest before I thankfully fixed it. Technically, they continue to need to fix their shit with this. It's not Bethesda or Obsidian level by any means, but it is extremely noticeable.
