You aren't reading what people are saying and are focusing on negative seeming things that don't matter. We can only repeat "stop focusing on raw vote totals in areas with votes outstanding and find somewhere with some projections for the votes left" so many times.

Are we really not looking at flipping the Senate? I'm pretty not wild about another four years of Senate Maj. Leader McConnell.

It's gonna be close. We might be able to eke out a 50-50 with VP or 51-49 split, but it will be begging the moderate Ds to do the right thing a lot rather than dunking all over Rs.

We can dunk on the Rs when DC is a state, assuming a 51-49 split.

This relies on Democrats getting the Senate because McConnell will make sure it never happens if republicans still control the chamber. Same deal for PR, if they vote once again to be allowed to be a state.

Wouldn't someone else be senate majority leader if Ds had 51?

Fox is making another aggressive call, this time NE-02 for Biden. If they're correct about Arizona and NE-02, Biden no longer needs PA to win

I think NBC is calling it as well. Their map sucks for setups like Nebraska's but Biden's EC count went up by one and that's the only thing I can think of. I want to say Maine is the other state with splits like this and they haven't called anything.

presidential elections are almost always eerily close enough that it's hard for me to feel especially elated or defeated by the popular vote. there are a handful of exceptions but generally speaking the losing candidate has at least 40% of the vote. usually it's closer to mid 40s. so like, 'a resounding repudiation of this' or 'a clarion call for more of that' feels flat. there is a strong emotional sense for me of 'wow, i can't believe so many people want this person' except then i remember that i can believe it. it's almost a statistical certainty that around half of the voters are going to go one of the two ways.

so i guess it's upsetting for me in an absolute sense. but it doesn't really swing from election to election because exchanging a few percentage points doesn't make me think we've seriously reshaped the fundamental character of our nation.

A big part of that is just that the senate and electoral college by extension are fundamentally undemocratic.

honestly lots is still just unknown at this point; that's not a fun answer and it's not one you'll get from the media (cause they want those eyeballs all night long baby) but it's mostly how it is. The election will be closer than the Biden side hoped but that's how these things go

How is it this close? Is it a case of our polls being fucked again ? It shouldn't be this close. Not even. Fuck pumpkin head

There are over 60 million Nazis in this country is the problem. It's not like Trump made it through the primary and won the general election based on some kind of confusion about who he was.

60 million Nazis supported by one half of our two-party political system that has been ratfucking our democracy since McCarthy and Nixon in order to disenfranchise anyone who isn't a Nazi

It fucking sucks, but even though the Nazis are holding their own (again) know that there's more of us than there are of them. We just have to keep hitting them until they can't get back up again

And then hit them some more because fuck Nazis

Naw, this is bullshit framing. A decent portion (and I'd argue a majority) of Trump voters are people who generally don't pay attention but the Republicans are their team and Trump is the Republican so they vote for their team. The dipshits driving around in trucks with Trump flags? They don't give a shit about what Trump has done. They likely literally don't know what he's done. But he's on their team so fuck you, you sad democraptic libs. Suck on my coal rolling trump flag sporting tailgate you worthless fucks.

That's literally as far as their thinking goes.

And in order to get them to see that "Uh no, actually, Trump is pretty ok with nazis so maybe don't vote for him?" you have to get through Fox News and more importantly social media propaganda.

It shouldn't be surprising that's a hard nut to crack.

Try convincing a Packers fan to root for the Vikings because the Packers, the team they're intentionally blind fans of because then they don't have to pay attention, are pro-nazi.

    It's not impossible but good-fucking-luck.

Go to sleep dude. There is nothing left for you. This is a clear anxiety attack. Rational thought ain't going to take you anywhere. Facts are being used to keep the spiral going. Unplug, decompress, and get some rest. You won't know how we win this until you take a step back.

How do you figure? Again, they haven't counted the early votes in WI, MI and PA, which are going to heavily favor Biden. Right now it looks like we can do with WI and MI alone (Or any combination of those three)

Indeed, and, barring a miracle there is no way we will 'know' who won until at least late tomorrow. We may get enough signals that statistically we will be very confident, but I think they are starting to run out of states to call for tonight.

Milwaukee said they think they'll have their absentees done at about 3 a.m. local time, which is about 2:15 from now. That should be enough to erase Trump's nominal lead completely by itself.

perhaps some much needed levity: my roommate is a very hardcore trumper (we love you mr president, thank you for saving our country, i'm sad that this country doesn't appreciate you and isn't grateful for your herculean efforts, etc etc) and she's up stressing about the election

i just heard her say that she's extremely worried biden is going to dismantle every american police force and just let the democrats run free with criminality since they don't recognize law and order

(i was able to enjoy this and laugh rather than cry because i live in a state where trump only got 41% of the vote)

Kind of depends on how you define good and bad. Trump winning is the apocalyptically bad result. The awesome result would have been Trump getting Mondaled and we know that isn't going to happen. Biden winning cleanly and taking the Senate would be good. Personally I would consider Biden winning after an ugly contested election and ending up stymied from even a chance at any of the reforms needed to fix the country by a hostile Senate to be a bad result. Not as bad as it could be but still bad.
