That definitely sounds like God Eater.
It's my favorite Monster Hunter-like, that and Soul Sacrifice.

I haven't even started 2 yet. I own it on my Vita download list, though.

I’ve been playing Space Haven which I did pickup on sale earlier in the week.
It seems extremely absurdly big in functionality and scope for something I never heard mentioned anywhere. I didn’t play Rimworld but if you’re a DF fan and likes space things, ONI and what have you, this is in that similar vein.
I won’t pretend to have gotten far yet and haven’t run into buggy stuff so far. But like early on just building a space ship and looking around it’s got systems on systems and maybe a 100 or so components to put in the ships. Very pleasing visually, very corny music.

I like how the logs you find read like a patchwork of fanfiction written by fans of different series. Like the enthusiastic science vessel guy boldly going where someone's been before whose unfailing chirpy optimism irritates the living hell out of his crewmates. And the good ol' boy Browncoat who feels like he's been ripped out of a Chris Roberts game talkin' 'bout the 'Verse.
@Spoit is signing his name as Wyoming. So I am not sure he is a real person. But the results of his actions seem pretty real. Thank you for Third Crisis.
Been playing through Control and the gameplay just hasn't been clicking for me. Not a fan of the enemies, the way they respawn when trying to find a place because the map doesn't show different floors, the combat in general, constantly needing to deconstruct junk I pick up to free up inventory space, and the main character has started to feel pretty flat. The setting and its ideas are good though some of the dialogue feels like a writer going "look how random and crazy this is!" more than really thought out. I'm done with most of the game so I might just finish it up while we wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to release but I was hoping to be more taken given the reviews I read.
It did improve a bit after I got the levitate ability as exploring got a lot more interesting but the combat still remained awful. Even at max health upgrades you're made of tissue paper and combat is largely just spamming the Launch power over and over again due to anemic weapons and the problematic enemies being resistant to guns. Encounters largely consisting of killing waves of enemies and then having a new wave respawn with many often behind you felt cheap, especially when some of those were kamikaze enemies.
The game got repetitive towards the end too in terms of objectives and the writing and scenario design got pretty hacky. I dipped into the DLC included with the Steam version after the main story very briefly before being reminded I'd have to deal with all those issues with combat again and quickly uninstalled it.
This was a 6/10 for me. We are not hurting for good action games this year with great atmosphere so the bar is higher than it may have been for me even just a year ago. The most interesting parts of the game were the many notes you find and lore videos and it's not a good sign when those are the highlight and not the actual game.

Yea, it was a big bummer for me considering how much Giant Bomb talked it up. I ended up dropping it after a while cause I wasn't really having fun and kept getting lost.
Yes, I came into chat with the suggestion that Wyoming may or may not exist, to which Pixie noted she was born in Wyoming. Thus, we cannot be certain whether she exists.
And then this happened
I guess I deserved that but, again, you all are really bad with proportional responses!

OK folks, here me out. I think we can all agree that 2020 was the worst and any small victories we can get should be greatly celebrated. There are 24 days left this year and we're this close to...
What do you say, can we make it to 3k? I'm sure @Pixelated Pixie won't mind taking one (or 36) for the team.

On the other hand, I super enjoyed Control, and all its SCP nonsense.
It made me miss TSW
Control has Lovecraftian horrors and characters waxing critical about Twilight's depiction of vampires?
Not really and no though there is waxing critical about conspiracy theorists getting it wrong. The former is one of the things that disappointed me. There's so much talk, text, and lore about all the weird things in the world but all you fight outside of some bosses are not-zombies.
Hey folks - what would be the easiest way to gift someone (my son) a Steam game for Christmas? Would it be to buy the game on another site and print the code into a card or does Steam offer scheduled email delivery/printable codes for gifting? Also, is isthereanydeal still the best place to watch for price drops across the various sites - does it cover all the legit storefronts still?
That's awesome - I had no clue that it could be scheduled right in Steam. Maximum time limit shouldn't matter - I'm going to wait until the last minute since it's a pretty new game I'm holding out hope for a sale. Thanks for the info!

Codes from other sites work.
Steam allows for scheduled gift deliveries.
isthereanydeal is still pretty great and covers most legit sites. r/gamedeals is also good.
Here's something I've done in the past: If you have access to his PC you can just purchase/install the games on Christmas Eve. Print the game cover/logo and put it on an old DVD case, so the kid has something game size to unwrap.
Printing out a case is a great idea. I know I can't get close to his PC on Christmas Eve, plus I think that would trigger an email of "Thanks for your purchase" right to his phone (he's 16 and attached pretty solidly to his tech).

Favorite part of Code Vein so far is definitely the class/job system.
You can freely change your specialization compared to Dark Souls which expects you to have one particular build in mind.
So basically I can constantly switch things up and mix skills and weapons, pretty liberating.
Seven: Enhanced Edition is free to keep through Humble for a GOG copy of the game for just under 47 more hours.
I am guessing he is a manicurist trying to do the nails of seven gods.
Seriously, what is game like?
I played the demo a while back, it's a stealth-focused isometric RPG. I seem to remember the combat being turn based and grid based, and insta-kills from backstabs and death from above attacks.

Yeah, these are all great options.
If you get a gift link (like through HB) you can still put it on a card under the tree if you run the link through a link shortener.
For anything you print out, be sure to use a nice, chonky, serif font so there's no mistaking i for l for 1 or o for 0 or somesuch.

Incredible opening, too.
(Better than the anime's even)
Still gotta beat 2.

@Pixelated Pixie (who may or may not exist) seems to take offense to the suggestion that Wyoming doesn't exist (which I'm still doubtful of)

Considering how other dumb internet things have gone over the last few years, watch this become an actual factor in the 2024 presidential election.
