Back in MW2 days, I went with the option of snipping the plug off an old, crappy headset and leaving it inserted in my controller.
Fast-forward a decade, to the era of global mute being a menu option, and of course, somebody actually set up a Kickstarter for this now mostly obsolete low-tech solution and called it “The Silencer.”

Also, Gabe and Tycho have a history of problems dealing with their NAT.
I suppose "Illusory" may be the least strict NAT type possible.
