EVERYBODY'S GETTING SHOTS!

The UK has started vaccinating, today. Other countries are coming up shortly. The US is starting by the end of the month, and so is Canada. Even though we can't MAKE the vaccine, we ordered more than literally anywhere else so we're GETTING IT. Europe and especially Germany, probably soon too!

Eventually, the girl reading this (hey) WILL GET THEIR SHOT TOO! If you're an American stock trader, you'll even get one really soon because you're essential. Wow. It must feel good to be so important!

As the next year happens and people get their shots, I thought it would be good to have a single place to keep track of this monumental endeavor. Post when you get yours, give hope to others, and once important rollout information starts being put out, post that too! I'll add any relevant information people need to know to the OP. You'll get yours.

EVERYBODY.

Oh hey nobody's done this but I feel like I need to put this up here: if anybody walks in here with some antivax shit you will be unwelcome from this thread so fast holy shit. You're gonna get reported and the mods will be called.

The Pfizer data is most complete and says that it takes 14 days until you have 53% protection, then if you take the followup + 14 days you hit 95%

So your party may start 5-6 weeks after your shot.

And spread the word: These vaccines have a pretty good chance of giving you a pretty annoying 24h. Mild fever, tiredness etcet. That is a sign of the vaccine working.

Make sure to tell people this if they are hemming about getting the second shot.

Yeah I am not getting one for many months, either. Probably the only people getting it this year are elderly and health care professionals.

I'm an essential employee, but that doesn't mean much in the grand scheme. I'll probably not be able to get a shot until Spring at the earliest, more likely in the Summer.

Yeah the thing is that governments get to decide who gets to count as high priority

and since most current governments are right-wing fascistic hellscapes, welp

I know teachers and school staff are supposed to be in the second group/wave here in the states (or at least in Washington state).

I'm wondering how that'll apply to substitute teachers.

We've been advised by our son's pediatric oncologists that we should wait on any sort of vaccine for more testing, for him and anyone in the family. So, we're crossing fingers on more testing coming out soon as well as good reports from the first wave of vaccines.

I did a CVS flu shot this year and it was super easy. Signed up online in advance, in and out in less than ten minutes.

As for the covid shot, I'm looking forward to it, obviously, although I probably won't be getting it right away or anything because I'm not particularly essential in the grand scheme of things. Plus I've already had covid once, and while you can't rely on that for absolute immunity or anything, I've still got some resistance going for me for a bit by most medical estimates.

My work insurance pays for the flu shot...I’ve just been lazy because I rarely leave the house

I was slow to get mine as well, I just got it done like a week ago.

Usually I get it in October, but that's because my work will bring someone in to the office to administer flu shots to anyone who wants them. Without that, I put it off for a bit, and then I got sick and one thing led to another.

Can I butt chug the vaccine

A local comedian/newsman had a segment where he demonstrated they could technically administer the vaccine with social distancing through mooning out of your car window and shooting it at your butt with a tranq gun so

    maybe

work is polling folks who will want the vaccine and gave a deadline of the 18th so they can send the numbers to our national org

    hopefully we'll be in january?

I got a flu shot from Costco for $20.

I then got a hot dog & Mountain Dew from Cotsco for $2.

    Costco is good stuff.

it depends, and it will probably end up being the folks who need it most being the ones needing to pay.

  • SimBenSimBen Hodor? Hodor Hodor.Registered User regular
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they promised it'd be free even in the US but you're right to be skeptical.

The part I'm worried about is how hard they'll make it mandatory, I suspect "not very much" which is a problem.

My work actually did trials for the vaccine and they asked if anyone wanted to volunteer. I declined. I'm diabetic and thus technically immocompromised, but I'd rather someone who needs it more gets it.

Operation Warp Speed, while not paying for the research and creation of the vaccine, set aside money to pay for the vaccine for all american citizens. Whether or not that happens is I guess up in the air, but that is supposed to be what is happening.

Edit: Here is more clarity on that from a 11/17 report:
The good news is that right now, the prices are pretty reasonable. Pfizer and BioNTech have set the initial price at $19.50 a dose, which comes to $39 per patient (since each vaccine requires a two-dose regimen), in its $1.95 billion contract with the federal government as part of Operation Warp Speed in July. Pfizer and BioNTech, which have developed an mRNA-based vaccine, will receive that amount for the first 100 million doses, pending regulatory approval. Moderna, which has developed a competing mRNA vaccine, received nearly $1 billion from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority and has a $1.5 billion contract for 100 million doses, bringing its price to around $50 per patient or $25 a dose.

So, the first 200 million doses (which equals 100 million people) will be free from the two companies currently with effective vaccines.

There’s going to be some really shitty takes.

From what I’ve read you’re going to get a little sick when you get the vaccine...so anti-vaxxers are going to jump all over it.

It is unknown! We know the President paid Moderna millions to make their vaccine available in the USA first, though I'm pretty sure Pfhiser beat them to it so it was a hilarious waste of money, but I'm pretty sure most insurances will cover it? Of course what about uninsured Americans? Who knows!
