I bought a new computer monitor. It's an Acer EG240Y.
It's not a particularly expensive monitor, but it's 165hz.
I guess now I'm gonna need a computer upgrade to properly make use of the high refresh rate in modern games.
I remember when I had to disable vsync to get a steady 30fps to match my 30Hz GoldStar CRT. I'm getting an headache just thinking about it. 165Hz, that's crazy smooth.
I like to collect pins from places I travel to, and over the years I've built up a collection I'm quite proud of.
This collection used to live on my work laptop bag, but with COVID that means it's lived in my wardrobe for the last year.
Finally decided to resolve this, and settled on a cork globe that can sit on my desk.
It arrived the other day, and while the build quality of the internal connectors is pretty dissapointing (I wrecked my hands struggling to get it all together), I am incredibly happy with the finished result
I might see about some similar project - love pins but I'm terrified of losing them (and have a history of exactly that, even with good clasps)
Definitely an advantage of keeping them in house. I haven't lost many fortunately but it always had me paranoid.
My first plan was to put them in geographical order, but the pins are too big for that to work. So now I've gone for the lazy Christmas tree approach (all pins on the globe sides you can see)
Ha
My plans for the day included trying to reschedule a covid safe mattress testing appointment I booked last week.
Went to the confirmation email and somehow I'd managed to book it for last Sunday, without even noticing
So... Chore accomplished I guess??
(I feel bad about ghosting tho)

What makes the matress covid safe?
Yes, I understand it's a covid-safe testing of a normal (presumably) mattress.
I just can't with that one, it's so busy. I've seen some versions I like, but I think usually with only three or four message iterations
Fortunately, I am not terribly busy and the only further plan I have for the day is to go to a friends house and eat pig.
In this house we believe
This place is a message
And part of a system of messages
Pay attention to it
Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture
Nothing valued is here
What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us
This message is a warning about danger
The danger is in a particular location.
Of a particular size and shape and below us
In increases toward a center. The center of danger is here.
The danger is still present in your time as it was in ours
The form of danger is an emanation of energy
The danger is to the body and it can kill
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically
This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.
Wow, an art book whose Kickstarter I backed back in 2016 finally shipped today. Dude had a fucking hell of a time with it's production, and I had kinda forgotten about it besides the update we'd get like once or twice a year. I am pretty stoked though, because the dude's work is phenomenal (it's Peter Mohrbacher if anyone is interested).
Also, my third Dungeon in a Box shipped today as well so I'm excited to have two things coming!

Oh hey, I just got my Angelarium books from that kickstarter two weeks ago! I'm super pleased with how they came out, too

Wait, did you post about that? It seems vaguely familiar now that you mention it.
Also, I'm super pumped! I backed at the level to get the new and the previous book, plus a print, so I am excited! I don't often buy physical books anymore due to limited shelf space, but art books I will definitely get.
The look of utter consternation on rhylith 's face when given a particular prompt in Muse at PAX South a few years back is one of my favorite board gaming memories. I'd picked it up on a whim just because it reminded me a bit of other games that I like, and it was a very pleasant surprise how much fun it can be with a good group.
i like the idea of Mysterium, Dixit, etc, but i saw someone mention Muse as an airport game, and i was like, hell yea
i now also have Hive Pocket
...i am eyeing Camel Up and Quacks of Quedlinburg (not airport games)
e: i've enabled my sister, and while Parks is waiting to be yet played, we sleeved Splendor last night
ee: sorry for the batsignal!

A hitch has occurred in Boat Plans
Namely there currently aren't any available berths for boat storage at either of the primary two boathouses.
If I buy a boat I would then have literally nowhere to put it.
UNLESS somebody moves out of the country and takes their boat with them, or someone's boat truly gets smashed up but I very much don't want that last thing to happen obviously
Boats! So complicated!

you know it wouldn't have surprised me but as far as a search shows I never brought it up before? maybe those posts are just lost to time
I'll take some photos of them when I'm back from the office, I really love the fiction they interspersed between the images as well

Quacks is great fun - and is available to play on Tabletopia if you haven't played before and want to try before you buy

Quacks is fun. Tabletopia is like pulling teeth.
Why you want to use a physics simulator to implement board games I don't understand. My board game club is still closed due to corona (we may open in the fall) and we tried to use tabletopia to play online insteead. Was so difficult we gave up. (We ended up using boardgamearena (which has fewer games but an actually useable interface) instead.)
I've found it OK, but I have a fastish computer, decent Internet, a mouse, and two screens
The people I've played with have not had all of those things and are less enamoured of the site, but we're taking what we can get at the moment and it's the one I've subscribed to so there's the sunk cost fallacy
Hey does anybody have any reccomendations for a cheap but not complete shit electric bass guitar? I know guitars in and out but I don't have any experience with bass. I can play them and that's about it.
I'm maybe thinking about putting together a little home recording set up so it would mostly be used to plug straight into a DAW and not for actual real life playing.

I've heard nothing but good about Ibanez in both price and quality

Yamaha or Squier if you're buying brand new, 80s Japanese made Ibanez if you want something a bit older and in my opinion cooler.

We spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to draw a card. Intuitive it is not.
They are also releasing a yellow cube dock/charger/stereo/pen holder (1:52 - 3:34)
Games from Bennet Foddy and Lucas Pope (maker of The Obra Dinn)
They've also made a game design tool called 'Pulp,' no details yet as to how amateur game distribution will be handled though
Man, those playdate people sure do talk a lot about how you might not like the games in their advertising pitch, which is an odd choice

it's too bad Mohrbacher had a bad experience with WotC, he did some real classics in terms of MtG card art.
speaking of, I keep forgetting then remembering to check artists' kickstarter pages after their campaigns have expired by a few weeks. Probably good as I'm running short on wall space, but I love getting prints.
I have Binah as a MTG playmat that I'm now using as a mousepad. Had it for like 6 years and it's gotten comments every time someone has seen it. It's so fucking weird, I love it.

Now I wanna drink Scotch and I think I've only got one left because I took a hard left into Australian gins a couple of years ago

It does go overboard parodying that style - a shame I can't get the full selection but as a series of prints
What makes the matress covid safe?
Edit: Which, after a bit of research on my part (post pork party) I see is the text of a long term nuclear waste warning.
