Girlfriend and I did some major capitalism on the weekend. One of the things we got was new pillows and they're so good. I didn't realise how bad our old ones were until now but my back and neck are already starting to feel better.
Also the new Xbox was briefly in stock on Amazon and I managed to snag one, should be arriving tomorrow.
Amazon have me quoting a one time password to the delivery driver before it's handed over and Jesus Christ are people actually heist-ing these things to point where this is necessary?
What are the best thermoses these days, for coffees and such? Looking for something with a real tight seal, like, throw it in a bag and not worry about it seal, and also probably pretty good at keeping things warm and/or cold.
Zojirushi is a really good brand also in my opinion. I don't love Contigo because eventually their standard lock valve gets all full of stale coffee flavour and is impossible to clean.
Definitionally, Thermos makes the best thermoses. Kleenex makes the best kleenexes, Xerox the best xeroxes, and Band Aid the best band aids.
Gonna toss you in a Dumpst-a non-branded waste container
I'm thinking I might as well sell my PS4. I haven't played a videogame in about a year.
I guess I'll try Facebook marketplace first. Do y'all think it would be wise to sell the games with it, as a bundle, or separately?

Did a prime day capitalism last night. Some new cables and charger for mobile devices from Anker and a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers to serve a rear channels on my surround sound.

So I moved to Japan about six months ago, and I got an apartment that was running a deeply discounted rent special for six months, fully furnished with no security deposit and ready to move in before you land in Japan, very easy to get started. But they get you on backend costs, and now my discount period is ending and my rent is going up significantly, so I'm looking at finding a new place.
And this place I found is definitely a more annoying commute (which doesn't really matter right now) but it would be almost half the cost and like 30% bigger, and I'm super excited to get it because it means I'd get to fully deck it out exactly the way I want, instead of using the shitty cheap furniture this apartment gave me. So I've spent all night wishlisting couches, beds, computer desks, kitchen stuff, everything I'd need, and it has me very excited. Even if I splurged a little, I would make up the cost of everything within like four months of much cheaper rent.
The place is big enough I might even be able to get a cat!

My move wasn't as expensive as advertised, and with the cost of computer hardware, I did the only reasonable(if you're a crazy person) thing and bought a CPU upgrade for my existing board.
I'm already running a 2070 Super on 32GB memory and SSD. But now, my water cooled proc will be not an i7-6700k, but an i7-9700k!

Actually just canceled that order, there was an LGA1151 socket revision, that CPU won't work.
edit: I'm instead looking into just getting a new motherboard/proc/mem build around my existing GPU and storage.
Apparently while my wife and I were drinking ourselves blind Thursday night, she ordered an entire soundsystem for our living room. My friend said it has something called Dolby Atmos and he's excited about that for us? I don't remember this happening, but I'm happy she spent several hundred dollars on something that's cool and that we'll get a lot of use out of!
She also bought me like 10,000 mint seeds for our yard, so that's nice
edit: the post night come off as me being sarcastic, but I really am excited about this! I've always thought for some things our tv speakers would pop or crackle when there was a lot of bassy sounds. Now we just need to buy a couch that's actually comfortable to sit on and I'll be all set!

Hell yeah time to run some speaker wire thru your ceiling.

Is there a cheap sound bar or something I can hook up to my TV to make voices in shows louder? For some reason some recent streaming shows seem to have really quiet dialog compared to the rest of the sounds.
I'm happy with both Vizio soundbars I have one is just soundbar and subwoofer the other has surround speakers. (The exact models are fairly old so they're discontinued, but I assume the quality is about the same for models available)
It's about 1000x better than the built in speakers for the tv I'm using one of them on.

is your center channel configured correctly? Make sure you're not using a sound profile that doesn't match your home theatre audio setup, you could be shunting a portion of your audio signal to a speaker that doesn't exist

I'm currently just using the speakers on the TV. Would I have those options?
Yeah you'd need a reciever and a center channel speaker. But at that point you might as well just get a L/R speaker set up. That's more or less what I use but that's mainly because I'm too lazy to run wire to my rear speakers. Ease of set up tho a sound bar is probably your best bet.
I haven't looked into them since they first started coming out about 5 or 6 years ago so I imagine they've gotten better. Back then a good mid/high end sound bar system was a JBL. JBL makes good audio equipment all around.

check on your set top box and your other configuration options (could be in the TV options, could be in whatever your signal is coming from), make sure that they're all set to stereo/2-channel instead of something like 3.1 or 5.1 audio

Depends on the TV. Samsung has a mode in the sound settings called Amplify that can help boost that center channel sound. But the big problem is that TVs are thin and so the speakers are tiny, plus they're pointed down. There are a bunch of inexpensive soundbars out there, like Kadith mentioned Vizio makes decent soundbars that do the job (I never recommend their TVs though).
If you are watching streaming stuff also check the streaming app’s audio options. The Netflix app on my Roku tv always defaults to 5.1 audio on any show that supports it despite all my tv settings set to stereo for my sound bar. It’s annoying to pause and change it every time I watch something.

*Looks at TV Brand. Uhhhhhhhhhh. Hmmmmmmm.
I don't buy enough TVs to be an expert, but my most recent (which I guess is 5 years old) one is a Vizio, and their reviews have been steadily increasing. I think they're still not on par with the Actual Good brands like Sony, Samsung etc., but they seem to be among the best of the Less Expensive brands.

I'm not going to say yours is trash or anything. I just never recommend them. I've had a lot of bad experiences with them over the years, especially on the repair side. Their OLED units they just started making were a shitshow, too. We had three with bent stands and two with dead panels in just a couple weeks.

We find in general, the sound through our sound bar is significantly better than the one from the tv. We often have to turn the tv up significantly more compared to when we have our sound bar on (thanks for turning it off, kid)
The age of flat screens killed the decent TV speaker system. You just can't fit anything good in those tiny spaces.
Back when I'd sell tvs we'd get these stupid expensive ultra HD 4k whatevers that boasted incredible built in speakers that could even "replicate surround sound" and every single one of them, without fail, sounded like ass.

The best of them are in the Sony OLED tvs, and those are just ok. A soundbar is almost a necessity.
In the end there's just no substitute for size when it comes to moving air, I guess.
I do kind of wonder if you could do some kind of flattened ridges thing or the like (think a Fresnel lens) to get something flatter (it would still be big, but it could be fit into a TV that way)

I got permission from my wife to spend $3000 on a set of 5.1 floorstander speakers for my TV when we bought the house to move into. Unfortunately, that was before the reno went overbudget and we ran out of money.
Those floorstanders are so beautiful. Alas, I will have to make do with my circa Y2K Sony bookshelf speakers for the foreseeable future. But one day... I will do a capitalism, and you all will know about it.

Yup, I used to have two 32" flat screens, one was a thicker/cheaper model and one was a more expensive slim model, and the cheaper one had better sound by far. Thinner one did have the better picture though.

Gonna be honest: I have no idea what you'd otherwise call a thermos. A portable coffee carafe? Doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Yeah, I'm aware of the issue there, I was wondering if you could mess with the shaping somehow to get more air movement for the bass somehow.
