I think I’m getting there, in a jury-rigged sort of way. I’m gonna start drawing on massive pieces with big brush sizes, then just roll the image back until it’s a reasonable size, then screenshot it... if that makes sense.
It’s funny how quickly you can see errors in your own art. The tail on that speech bubble really should go to the back of the beast’s throat, not the tongue. It’d be so much better if it lead to where the sound is coming from.
I wonder how fast I could make my comic idea if I just used blocks of colour without outlines.
Also it’s important to note that pose is just an old Spider-Man cover, and putting the towers upside down from the top is stolen from the Spider-verse movie. It was just for a concept test, you know? I don’t intend to make a habit of borrowing so heavily.
If I could magic up a video game it’d be a multiplayer Legend of Zelda rip-off where you play a bunch of people that were taking part in a festival celebrating the ancient hero, and they’re in cheap hero costumes, and then the bad guy attacks.
Totally unnecessary map that isn’t even nice to look at. I just wanted to make a mock video game looking map for my comic idea, which I wouldn’t dream of sticking to. Sometimes I make things without a purpose and that’s fine.
I guess it helped me with an idea. Again, it’s mostly a funny absurdist comic strip, not a long form story, but I think the world overlaps with itself impossibly. Like an icy vale and a quiet vale sort of being the same place, but far away from each other, while a vast seabed desert loops around to the other side of the world if you take a wrong turn (rather than because the world is a globe).
I mean I can’t stress enough in the comic they’re just background options, but since you’re probably gonna have to wait months to see it, and it’ll be different by then:
The comic starts at the High Bridge, which is a castle looking place miles above a bunch of rivers.
Hunting grounds is where giant wolves live because Ghibli movies.
Forgotten Parish is a dirty hillbilly town, but populated by amiable undead and beast people.
I’ll be shifting areas every ten strips or so, just to mix up backgrounds and palettes. The comic is designed to be finite, so you can sort of guess how many I’m going to make.
For this I just drew the same thing on ten different layers, then copied the overall piece to a top layer, changed the colours with a slider and randomly erased bits of that layer. If you were wondering.

I like it!
Basket Witch is a sapient magic potion with a cloak and I really like how absurd that is.

Now I'm so curious about each of these places... like the Hunting grounds and the Forgotten Parish... and can't wait for the comics!
