Add Walt Disney to the list of companies that won't donate campaign $$ in 2021 to GOP lawmakers who voted to reject EC certification, per spokesman.

Congresswoman claims that other members of Congress led a recon mission the day before to give rioters an idea of how to get through the Capitol. This squares with other people who have said they seemed to know where they were going even when it was not obvious.

Facebook basically said they'd resume bankrolling Republicans in March. I think Dow's the only company willing to commit to electoral-scale timeframes.

Yeah. We still don't know everything that Congress knows, and Congress won't know everything until full investigations are done. But some powerful people are in some *deep* deep trouble.

I think there's three things going on

    1. Trump is useless to McConnell now and is a larger millstone around the necks of Republicans than ever before
    2. Papa Corporate America is cutting off the flow of money
    3. While they seemingly need Trump's base to win elections, they can't win elections with JUST Trump's base, and ultimately easily swayed independents and moderates could be convinced to vote democrat, but Trump's base never, ever will. They'll either vote R anyway, or just not vote. A lost vote is one less vote, a vote going to your opponent is basically two less votes.

That last one is very much not true. Most of the Obama -> Trump votes are of the "I want to shake up the system" variety. Biden is very much The Establishment, but if Bernie 2.0 or whatever shows up for 2024 and Republicans end up putting up someone like Romney or, uh, I don't know, Murkowski?, those people will likely flop back.

That ship sailed. The works extended in the Copyright Term Extension Act of 1998 (Micky Mouse Protection Act) expired Jan 1, 2019. We have had works expiring and going into public domain for three years now. So works from 1923 expired in 2019, 1924 expired in 2020, and 1925 on Jan 1st, 20201

Not yet it hasn't... Steamboat Willie was released in 1928, so it's very likely this Congress will take up the question of a new extension.

Also going to dispute the idea that this is to get large swaths of independent and moderate voters. Split ticket voters and swing voter do exist, but now that everything has been counted, it seems they are still just as small in number as ever. Now, the GOP needs to convince those people to vote for them if they are looking at losing the really reliable college educated crowd to democrats, pro-democratic groups becoming more active and likely Trump's cult. As their vote share gets smaller, each voter still willing to back them becomes ever more valuable because election ultimately are a turn out thing. One interesting of note, is if we look at the GA runoffs as midterm and off year elections like 2018 and the Virginia state elections of 2017 and 2019. That's really bad new for the GOP.

Anyways, I suspect the big driver is that a ton of oligarchs told McConnell that he needs to do some fucking house cleaning or they will donate jack shit to his party. So there is some hope that members of the sedition caucus might just get bounced out of Congress, not going hold my breath on that until we see it actually happen, but it doesn't look like an impossibility at this point.

    So this seems big
BREAKING: Rep. Mikie Sherrill said tonight that *members of Congress* led people through the Capitol on a "reconnaissance" mission one day before the riot. "I'm going to see they are held accountable, and if necessary, ensure they don't serve in Congress.” https://t.co/O2N2Mzji4t
But after laying out her many reasons for seeking Trump's removal, she set her sights on congressional colleagues who, she said, abetted his attempt to overturn the results of the election and undermine democracy through a violent mob
    ...
Sherrill did not specify whether the "groups" were visibly staunch adherents of President Trump's, nor did she detail what she described as "a reconnaissance," a term that hearkens back to Sherrill's prior military service and refers to an exploratory mission for the purpose of gaining enemy information
    ...
We can't have a democracy if too many members of our police and our military are acting to over turn it and undermine it," Sherrill said

If this is part of what hasn't come out, then expulsion is the least of these traitors worry

It's been said, but it is utterly GALLING that the same douchebags who are so in love with guns that they'd rather force kids to deal with stuff like metal detectors and active shooter drills, absolutely lose their shit when asked to do something similar.

Less than a week after an armed riot stormed the building, forced congresspeople into hiding and lead to MULTIPLE FUCKING DEATHS.

To boot a cop - the on the ground representative of government authority - wasn't shot by a single assailant or accidentally trampled in a rush of bodies, a gang of like a dozen people beat him to fucking death in full view of a crowd and took trophies from his body.

    So some stuff from tonight:

AOC said on her Instagram live chat that she had a "close encounter" in which she feared for her life. Cannot divulge more because of security concerns.
Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon told us that the insurrectionists came with tasers which they used on officers and then beat them with pipes. One will probably lose an eye. One insurrectionist tried to seize an officer's gun and fire on them.

I suspect the more we learn the worse this is going to get.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

I mean, this was literally Trump's campaign, showing riots in cities that took place WHILE HE WAS IN CHARGE and saying oh noes look what will happen if Biden wins.

Reminds me of when a cousin of mine that posted pictures of the empty toilet paper shelves at the start of the pandemic with text to the effect of "How do you like your preview of socialism?!?" and I just couldn't. Like he's showing something that happened due to companies cutting costs by doing "just in time" stocking that can't react to spikes in demand, and is claiming this is a preview of socialism? The cognitive dissonance was nearly painful.
