I thought Edge Runners was decent but it got disjointed and kinda flew off the rails on the back half. And the weird double word speech during phone calls bugged me. I first thought they were trying for some type of broken, stream of consciousness phrasing, but the voice actors were just reading it straight so it just came across as awkward every time. I also didn't like that they went all in on
the quantity of prosthetics being primary cause of cyberpsychosis.
The game handled that better in my opinion.
I noticed this too, it's like they didn't use the tech to edit the speaking in post. Maybe the Japanese version does it different?
In my head canon, the tech works by converting your speech to text. Then a text to speech converter turns it back into audio based on the individual's voice profile. That's why it sounds like a wonky text to speech bot.
I feel like the stilted voicing must be a conscious artistic choice, because no way a competent voice actor would make it sound that way without being told to do so. I don't think it's a good artistic choice, but it's got to be deliberate.
Yeah, I dunno, I thought it was just an annoying anime-ism. At least they more or less kept the VA to a tolerable level, Trigger's episodes in Star Wars Visions were way too much. Even Neal Patrick Harris and Allison Brie couldn't salvage their writing there
Honestly, you're doing that Trigger episode wrong if you're not listening to it in Japanese. It's so over the top in a very specific way that I don't think any English VA could ever pull it off.

This has to be my favorite line from Edgerrunners:
I figured you'd like getting paid by Arasaka with one hand and then using it to fistfuck Militech.

because of how quickhacking was in release cp i was at ng+ in about 10 hours and cycled back round to making it harder in various ways
i think very hard is correct but ideally a well tweaked "you die fast they die fast" custom difficulty is optimal - the way the core game does difficulty scaling results in some really stupid fights if you go vs higher level opponents (where you can abuse exploits or various things to kill them but its immersion-breakingly dumb) or at least this is how it felt on release
the biggest thing i think i found in the end was not going sandevistan but using quickhacks as in-combat tricks - eg using them like "blind this guy blow up that guys gun then beat up another dude while they are cced" with kereznikov. sandy gets a lil samey after a while, and the quickhacks + weapons + kerez combo gives you a taste of everything, and you can still do a lot of stuff with melee weapons (although idk how hard they nerfed legendary shock, but it meant you could legit have that and ignore what weapon you were using - punch everybody to death, dildo everybody to death, white weapon everybody to death...)
also idk if they buffed the wrist launcher but that thing is fun and worth using even tho its bad. game gets a lot better with a bit of not trying to break it - you dont need to try and the rewards for doing it arent great
just gotta remember to avoid killing everybody thru walls even tho u can and making heavier use of eg reboot optics and so on
when the expansion drops im going to do a replay trying to make the most out of the bullet bouncing mechanics - it never quite worked properly in the original but it feels like you could really go to town trying to do fun stuff with that
i think also i would try and find a bunch of nice mobility mods like the mantis arms wall cling and see if theres stuff like proper wallrunning etc
(although idk how hard they nerfed legendary shock, but it meant you could legit have that and ignore what weapon you were using - punch everybody to death, dildo everybody to death, white weapon everybody to death...)
As far as I can see (although I haven't used it on a build in forever) the biggest nerf is that you can't pump your crit rate anywhere near as high anymore, or at least not as easily. Way less mod slots on clothes and I think you can only put the crit chance ones on face items. You can still stick 4 crit chance mods on a gun or w/e but not a dozen or so on your clothes as well.

in vanilla there was a bug with mod stacking too so in the end we simply pray that the code soup has resolved in our favour
If you're on PC just use a trainer to simulate NG+. I've given myself money although I've yet to bother going to a RipperDoc yet for upgrades, but I'm just giving myself a max level character so I can have fun. I'm already enjoying exploring the world now it's more functional and I'm in it for the story this time compared to combat.
I've already finished the game normally so this is just about exploring every last corner now. I've also been and picked up Rebecca's shotgun.
Watched Edgerunners, and the way it's written kind of feels like a Rorschach test in that whatever you believe to be true will be vindicated by the events in the story; Like if you think Davis is noble and heroic and living the dream then you will see that while if you think he's a stupid gonk then you will see that too.
Really though the one thing that can't be argued is that Rebecca is best girl. May everyone out there find a girl or boy as awesome as them.
Edgerunners nominally takes place one year before the game, but I don’t think the experience would be dramatically impacted by any particular order. Hell, maybe do them concurrently and see if any dramatic ironies fall out.

I struggle as to sub or dub as I feel Lucy's actress is better in English the first few eps. I kept switching back and forth.
I've seen a lot of people making builds inspired by the Edgerunners characters and seeking out their weapons/apartments or coming across them so there is probably some novelty in binging the anime first.
But then a fun part of the anime was seeing stuff you saw in the game. YMMV

Play the game then watch edgerunners.
I appreciated edgerunners more because I played the game, explored the locations and really understood the setting. I’m not sure yet reverse would be true.
also the anime takes stuff the game does (which is already a bit exaggerated in places) and dials it up to 11, you might feel a little lame if you start with the whackier one.

Yeah, I feel the show assumes you have some familiarity with the setting/game. I haven't finished the show just yet (two more episodes to go!) but certain world things haven't been explained and having the knowledge coming in helps a lot with the details that get glossed over. Like, you'd think there'd be a quick throwaway line to explain to David why runners have to sit in ice baths when deep diving for the new people out there in the audience but nah (unless I missed it).

Never played the game. If you have any familiarity with the cyberpunk genre you'll have plenty of context for everything.
So in 1.6, are mantis blades any better? My only issue with them before I guess was that kill animation that locked you in place basically for several seconds while all the poor unfortunately souls' choombahs shot you to death

I haven't played the game, but any familiarity with the cyberpunk genre is sufficient for the anime. Great stuff.

I don't think there's been any changes. It's a bit annoying and the only thing I can think of why that move only has partial invulnerability is to "encourage" players to use the heavy attack only for individual or isolated from the group takedowns and rely on the fast, light attacks and quick movement when surrounded.
A workaround in game is to use the non-lethal optics mod as that disables finishers. If on PC, you can download a mod to disable the heavy attack finisher(s) completely.
Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

I'm currently rocking a Sandy with knife throwing coupled with mantis blades and I am become Death, destroyer of worlds. I pop into a gang a dozen strong and I can take them all out in two passes.
It's pretty fucking broken, and I'll probably swap out for a neurotoxin knife or something once the novelty wears off, but for now it's a blast.

I didn’t hate her or anything, but it felt like she was in there just to satisfy the “kill wacky/loveable character to raise the stakes” trope.
Some people have a thing for short cute people with tempers.
I didn't see it as that trope, only because literally everyone but Lucy died and Becca lasted longer than most.
Hey, the wheelman survived. Maybe...

I was reading up on some of the 1.6 changes and apparently they completely removed the shaking scope for the Nekomata-style rifles. Holy shit, I gotta go mess around with my tech sniper. She was already a beast but now she's never going to miss anything. Honestly, as much as I hated that wild screen shake, it seemed like it was the only thing keeping that rifle balanced.
I'm also hearing they removed a lot of crafting specs from vendors around the city and that's... bad? Why the heck would you do that? The best-looking clothing options were pretty limited, at least other shops offered different colors and variations via crafting.
CDPR continuing to make weird decisions and/or introducing new bugs going on two years after release.

Aha, that makes more sense. The YouTuber I watched either didn’t know that or didn’t bother to explain it.
That’s ok, I made all my money selling crafted guns anyway, so as long as the 24 hour reset method works, it’s all good.

idk why devs would bother letting u buy mods with money u can download and install them free.... cmon...
I do like the subtle changes to your character model from some of the upgrades, but I wish they had taken it as far as the anime and let you turn yourself into something barely recognizable as human.
I wanna look like a fucking T-800, dammit.
