I thought the shield stunned them and reflected damage when they went into their elemental form, like the new boss. I would definitely see them sometimes end up on their back wriggling around, but maybe I am making some assumptions on what caused it. It may very well be your Noelle just isn't strong enough to keep the shield long enough to be able to reflect at the right times.

Are these Beefy Geovishap or whatever they're called? Because they definitely have a window for shield-related stuns. It's been tricky to pin down what it is, for me, since I only run into the one in the mining cave.

It's not the gigantic boss version, but the other big ones that were added at the same time.

For non-Zhongli shields, I think it's a matter of timing. I need to figure out what exactly the shield can counter.

yeah, google is failing me because I think they are just called Geovishaps, while previously we had Geovishap Hatchlings and the new boss is the Primo Geovishap, so searching for Geovishap gets both of the latter ones but I can't seem to find anything on just the plain adult version. But yeah, I'm pretty sure you're meant to stay shielded as much as possible during the fight, which ok Zhongli, but also just geo crystallize reactions are probably a good strategy if you can keep them going so maybe a Ning or Albedo might work well there too (other than brute forcing it with Xiao)

PSA reminder: remember to log back into the web event to pick up your free primos. I got 188, which if you believe their initial claim that they would split 1B primos among participants says that a little more than 500,000 people went through the trouble of logging in to their website over several days. No idea if that is good or bad for tracking the active playerbase though...

I only got 108 primos, went to reddit and apparently it's random whether you get 108, 188 or 288 (8 is a lucky number in China). And of course if you were really unlucky you never got all the 5 lanterns lit in the first place. Crap event IMO. One BEEEEEEEEEEELJON PRIMOS!! and I could not even do one pull after I got my share.

I still haven't figured out what exactly I'm supposed to do on 12-1 of the Abyss. The two geovishaps are large enemies that are fairly fast and don't flinch to attacks, and as soon as they attune to elements, there's just a constant stream of really powerful attacks in which I can't realistically avoid everything. I've tried to just burn one of them down before I run out of steam, but I don't think I've even managed to half kill one of them yet. Let alone doing it consecutively with two different teams.

Incidentally, they do flinch to Xiao's plunge attacks, which is definitely a plan. But when that happens, they reel back so far that it's hard to stay on top of them.

Zhongli is definitely key to one side; shields are the hard counter to those things. I do use Xiao on the other side; haven't really noticed an issue with staying on top of them. The range on his splash damage is pretty huge and if you see one get knocked too far away I use the E to immediately zap back on top of them. Here's my teams:
    sdp6dqf47ls0.png
Note the Jean+Barbara combo which is entirely focused on keeping Xiao alive and charged.

I'm only off by 30 seconds or so from three stars on both, so could likely three star with a little more work. However, I'm completely stonewalled on second half of 12-3. First half is a breeze as Zhongli rips through them in under a minute (100k+ crits with lvl 80 SoH + Bennett & pyro resonance), but second half with double ruin graders is just ridiculous and I can't seem to stay alive no matter what I do. I think I need to essentially reverse my teams to bring Zhongli to bear on the ruin graders, but then I don't have a pyro to bring to first half of 12-2. Probably just need to eat a 0-star on that one to advance with the right team.

Ok replying to myself, but wanted to update. I went ahead and reversed the teams and managed to 2-star 12-3. Also 3-starred 12-2 even without a pyro for the ice shield. Turns out she doesn’t shield if you can keep constant dps on her and relying on the pyro crutch was actually slowing me down. Go figure.

There doesn't seem to be an option to use Primogems to make wishes. Is that because I have some of whatever the little badge looking icon is?

Also, is it even worth to use wishes at this time? I'm barely into the game so I only have the 4 characters the game gives you by this point.

Only reason to wait is for a banner with a boosted rate on characters (or weapons) you like better, and that only applies to Intertwined Fates. Acquaint Fates there's little-to-no reason to wait on, so far as I'm aware.

You buy “Fates” with primogems to wish.

If you click on the wish button with no Fates, it will ask if you want to use Primo.

And yes, WISH. Use the blue fates any ol’ time, but *maybe* save primo/“rainbow” fates for a limited banner you like.

Alright, so I did some testing against the Primovishaps in the world, and this is what I found:
    - If they roll at you and hit you, they immediately jump and hit you a second time. But if you have a shield up, they instead fall over and flail. They're only down for like, 3 seconds tops, but it's a whole lot better than the alternative.
    - If they jump, they always do it twice in a row, and fall down briefly after the second one. Having a shield has no extra effect than usual.
    - If they do melee attacks, having a shield has no extra effect.
    - If they do the ground slam that causes tracking stalagmites, having a shield has no extra effect.
    - For all of the elemental attacks, (fire tremors, water/ice explosions, electric balls), having a shield has no extra effect.

Of course, some of those attacks might trigger crystalize on you depending on your shield, but besides that, the only extra value for having a shield against Primovishaps is for the rolling attack.

    I wouldn't say that.

Keqing is not a limited 5*, but she is great dps, and a good electro source.

Bennet is one of the best 4* supports. And I think most people like Babera and Ning.

I gotta disagree on Barbara. She does get use sometimes, but it's like, begrudgingly. Bennett and Ningguang are two of the best 4*s in the game, though. Hell, I still argue that Bennett is the single best character, full stop.

The current weapon banner is good, too, but I would never recommend rolling on a weapon banner until you are happy with your current list of characters.

I feel like Babs won't get any respect until we get a Fire Zone where being Wet has utility.

Until then she's just the most support of supports, someone so suited to the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers it's kinda embarrassing.

Yeah but she's really good at healing. You need healing. She's the healingest.
Don't need healing much? Don't need Barbara much.

It's also that being frozen is one of the most pain in the ass ailments out there. If she didn't... *cough* wet herself, she'd be much more useful. If you're up against ice enemies, you use her at your own peril.

I do like her healing a lot more than say Diona's or Bennet's. Barbara heals everybody at the same time. With healing circles, only the deployed character gets the healing. And since there's a time limit on the circle, it can be a pain to get everybody healed up at times.

Frozen is not a huge problem tbh, it's not like every enemy in the game does freeze.
But yes you do have to worry about it against bosses that do freeze. Against mobs it doesn't matter much.

Barbara has almost never left our party and frozen is just....not really a thing the vast majority of the time. Maybe sometimes there's a freeze archer, just kill it first. Sometimes you fighting ice slimes, you kill those without swapping to barbara. Occasionally there's an ice mage, wipe its shield out with fire, don't have to worry about it.

She also has a burst heal that does a lot and doesn't apply wet to your party, so she's not completely useless for healing if you need a top up when fighting something that does frozen.

It's no where NEAR a big enough concern in practice to not run Barbara if you get yourself damaged a lot. That's a major overreaction.

More than the freeze issue (although that's a pain when it's relevant), Barbara's issues are that she doesn't generate energy orbs and she's not that great at setting up elemental reactions for most parties. Not terrible for supporting a cryo character, but pretty bad for electro and problematic for pyro.

She's still plenty usable since healers are so important, but she gets that job done with just the free version of her. Rolling constellations always feels bad.

I like some of her constellations but yeah, for a new player they should be very low priority.

Anyways, for almost any banner you'll find somebody out there who doesn't like it and somebody who does. I'd just concentrate on what you like - do the test runs for the banner characters, several times if need be, and decide yourself. Most content doesn't need super-min-max party and you'll be staring at those characters and listening them a lot. So picking your team partly by how much you like the characters themselves (their designs and voices and personalities) also might matter.

Barbs charge aoe is pretty good for applying wet to a group of mobs and her healing ring will apply wet to enemies it touches so saying she's not good at setting up wet -> anything else reactions is also a massive downplay.

I've been killing things with lisa barbs, with lisa set up for lots of elemental mastery, for a while now, at wl7, and it works good. So ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh nah again she's alright. It's a 1.5 second cooldown on swapping, and she applies wet with her first attack instantly, and the attack is super fast and ranged. Really good for bosses. Barb two hits -> lisa three hit, barb two hit-> lisa three hit (not 4 cos that applies electro and my barb doesn't have much elementary mastery). Constant and fast electro-charged reactions.

Sounds like she's a pretty underrated character imo. In practice, at second highest world level, she's doing just fine.

Diona is not even close to better at healing than Barbara. Neither is Bennet.

If you guys throw around "better" so loosely.

Remember: they heal with supers. you comparing healing of a super to super? Barbara's is an instant huge chunk to the entire team. She's like the white mage in final fantasy. Sure you can argue other healers are good too. And they are! But only Qi Qi comes close to the consistency of a correctly setup Barbara's heals and QiQi is basically the same talent and healing setup as Barbara but based on attack, so obviously she's better for people who want to deal damage too.

But Bennett pretty much always has his burst, because he has the best energy generation in the entire game. As opposed to Barbara, who doesn't generate any energy at all (except for a slow passive amount from her first constellation that only applies to her). I'll give you that there's a huge convenience factor for not having to use your burst to heal, though. Like, when just exploring the overworld and doing daily stuff, that is really convenient. I'll also agree that Barbara is fine. But, like, every character is fine. Barbara just happens to be one of the least fine. Compounded by the fact that everyone gets a free copy of her, and early players got two free copies of her.

You can still use her (even in endgame content), or even actively roll for her if you really like her. But for people who don't really like her, it's not so nice to see her on a banner. The only ones who might be worse are the ones who are really niche, like Xinyan or maybe even Chongyun. Potentially very powerful, but harder to fit into parties than someone like Barbara.

So after struggling so much in getting past the first half of 12-1, I finally managed to clear that fight, and proceeded to cruise through and ultimately 6-star floor 12. I'm not sure where I can get a clean screenshot of what I used, but I got 2 stars on 12-1, 3 on 12-2, and then 1 on 12-3. I definitely could have gotten at least two stars on the last chamber since things went very badly, but I didn't really care to try for more.

Teams were Xiao/Diona/Noelle/Venti and Childe/Beidou/Bennett/Xingqiu. I like building my second team to be absolutely monstrous, so that if I can cruise through the second half of each chamber if the first half goes well. The first team was pretty thoroughly mediocre outside of Xiao, but it got the job done. Certainly would have had more damage there if I could fit in Xiangling or Fischl, but I wanted to focus on heals/shields to stay alive.

In this week’s installment of “wait, what - that was today!?”, yesterday I:
    - got the in-game mail thanking me for helping to make the Lantern Festival event great, which event I had not done at all
    - hit AR 25, unlocking the Xiao questline
    - Finished it
    - Did the entire Lantern Festival event card, I, II, and III top to tail
    - Played enough Theatre Mechanica to nab the crown, both player card backgrounds, all the hero’s wits on offer, and a character pull (I chose Xianying(sp?) but if I had realized I only got to do one I woulda picked Nianquan or the Cryo dude)
    - Spent my ~1450 gems on a ten-pull from the event banner, netting me a c1 Barbara which is okay because I use her
    - Four pulls on the weapon banner because why not, netting me the Pyro rock musician so now I have four Pyro, three electro, and one each of Cryo, Geo, and Hydro
    - Leveled a team to 40 with 40 weapons and did unspeakable things to the mobs in the first WL quest, so now I am AR 26.
    It was ...a lot.

Barbara heals your entire team, Bennett and Diona heal only the active member, slowly, and you have to stay within their ult.

If you care only about healing, Barbara is still near the top.

You've spent four digit resin on your Bennett and probably next to nothing on your Barbara, of course you will get decent numbers on him and garbage ones on her.
