I am legitimately concerned about what's going to happen March 4th, or whatever new date they decided the comet is going to come and save them. Hopefully a lot of them will be busy with trials at the time, but even still.

Yeah, but hoping that fascists just stop fascisming is pretty cold comfort.

This seems relevant to the thread, I'm glad to see congress isn't just going to try to forget what happened a couple weeks ago:

I am happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there’s common ground, but you almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago so you can sit this one out.

Happy to work w/ almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed.

In the meantime if you want to help, you can resign.

    "This is unacceptable.

We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp ’s decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit.

As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I’d support a hearing if necessary."

Are you familar with the Gamestop stuff going on? Long story short, some Reddit users realized they could manipulate stocks like hedge funds do, and turn the tables on them, making out like bandits. Rich asshole investors panicked at the "poors" muscling in on their profits and made it so only professional stock people can manipulate the stocks

Which, as AoC points out, is kind of a fucked up double standard and says she'd be willing to look into it as a member of the commerce committee. Ted Cruz "agreed" with that sentiment, and you've seen the rest.

Here's Adam Serwer, Atlantic staff writer, tweet-quoting Garrett Graff, a journalist. The tweets tie into what I was opining over in the previous incarnation of this thread, and how the media's attempt to not appear biased has directly benefited the conservatice radicalizing elements, because objectively reporting what GOP advocates, candidates, and politicians are saying and subscribing to is seen as "being biased."

I think it more or less tells you everything about American politics that on the right of the "extremist" is a death cultist who harasses gun massacre survivors, and on the left it's a regular person with left wing policy preferences
Reporters need to resist the "extremists on both sides" frame, equating @mtgreenee or @CawthorneforNC as the GOP foil to @AOC & "The Squad." They're not. Like her or no, @AOC is a serious policy thinker. @mtgreenee is a gutter-dwelling conspiracist with no place in public life.

We need these legislators who have stirred up these mobs and advocated for violence to be removed from their offices and barred from holding office. Now, by censure and expulsion, not by voters at the ballot box, because if there are not serious consequences for those on the inside who encouraged, aided, and abetted this coup attempt, it WILL happen again, before and/or druing the next election.

Marjorie Taylor Greene's account has deleted 19 tweets in the last 12 hours.

Greene is also scrubbing her Facebook of old posts and videos from 2018 and 2019 where she spread conspiracies and endorsed violence against Democratic lawmakers.

Judge Howell on the "Save the Children" rally: "Is that connected in any way to the QAnon conspiracy theory?"
Dohrmann: "I believe it very well could be" because the rally is consistent with the conspiracy theory, but she does not have specific information about that.

A Judge and Federal Prosecutor don't know that Save the Children is a front for QAnon. IT'S LITERALLY YOUR FUCKING JOB TO KNOW THIS.

Just a point of order: Save the Children is a real charitable organization founded in 1919, and in no way related to Qanon.

The hashtag #savethechildren has been coopted by Qanon. And qanon has used the phrase as a rallying cry.

I'm sure the real Save the Children is not happy.

Seconded this. In Norway their daughter organisation is called Redd Barna(Save the Children in Norwegian) and is the standard by which all other charitable organisations are measured. I can personally say that it was the first charity that I even knew existed as a child.

The judge got his ass and sentenced him to pretrial detention.
    ‘Brazen. Entitled. Dangerous.”

Those are the thundering words the chief judge from the District of D.C. found best described Richard “Bigo” Barnett, the 60-year-old seen smirking with his feet on a desk in Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with a stun gun in his pants, keeping him behind bars pending his trial in connection with the U.S. Capitol insurrection.

“This was not a peaceful protest,” an audibly livid Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell noted following an hourlong detention hearing. “Hundreds of people came to Washington, D.C. to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.”

“The government has presented overwhelming evidence that this defendant, Richard Barnett, enthusiastically participated in this assault on the Capitol,” Howell added.

The judge also had some nasty words for Barnett's lawyer for making baseless misconduct claims against the prosecutors.

You'd think so, but they seem to be turning normal Republican voters crazy rather than putting them off. You can't go on the internet without hearing millennials lamenting how their parents no longer talk about anything but bizarre right-wing conspiracy theories, and many of these people were apparently normal before the GOP started hacking their minds.

Push X to doubt. Moderate Republicans have shown they can pinch their noses so tight to get past the stink of crazy that a candidate could spray the whole lot of them with thioacetone and they'd just skip the post-voting snack.

i'd argue there's no such thing as a moderate republican. Just extremists and those who wish the extremists would stop saying the quiet parts out loud because it makes it harder to get their agenda (which is the same agenda) implemented.

For what it's worth: The Judge may have known the answer and just wanted to develop the record.

The prosecutor answered as strongly as one should if you don't have literal receipts signed 'Q'. It seems less wishy washy when you compare it to Defense counsel only pushing back by stating their client claims it wasn't related; a technically true statement that insulates them from it being blatantly untrue.

    Broader context from the thread:
Judge Howell describes a report of Barnett at a so-called "Save the Children" protest in Fayetteville with a rifle slung on his back and a pistol on his hip in September.

Judge Howell on the "Save the Children" rally: "Is that connected in any way to the QAnon conspiracy theory?"

Dohrmann: "I believe it very well could be" because the rally is consistent with the conspiracy theory, but she does not have specific information about that
    ...
Barnett's lawyer says his client claimed that the "Save the Children" rally is not connected to QAnon.

The hashtag #savethechildren has been coopted by Qanon. And qanon has used the phrase as a rallying cry.

I'm sure the real Save the Children is not happy.

should be possible to learn, what's their website say?

Lots of articles about starving children in Syria and kids in Africa not getting the education or medicine they need. Same stuff they've had since 1919.

You can see for yourself if you like: https://www.savethechildren.net/

They're incredibly well-respected. I've literally grown up hearing about the good they're doing. They have daughter orgs in 31 countries. Do you not have them in the US?

Do they hold typically hold rallies? Because the only context I’ve heard about “Save the children” rallies has been QAnon folks trying to borrow some legitimacy.

That take, that the left was caught off guard, was always bullshit; Trump didn't fall from the stars on to that golden escalator he was already one the most meticulously chronicled human beings of the 20th and 21st centuries. Everyone with even basic right wing literacy saw it coming and saw what the true danger was and that was the Fox Axis of Bullshit laundering this absolutely known grifter narcissist idiot asshole into a populist outsider. That the echo chamber had become airtight was the real lesson because they bought into the story that the fucker who had two tabloid divorce sagas and even more bankruptcies was anything other than a fucking sociopath dickhead failson turned failfather reality TV show host asshole. No one was surprised just disbelieving that the stupidest possible extrapolation of 40 years of right wing media blaring racist vomit had come to pass and the entirety of the media just abdicated every shred of responsibility because the News was now just another reality TV show, because now every outlet is just another arm of some media conglomerate.

What always struck me about people being surprised at the rise of Trumpism and the fact he managed to get elected, was the arrogance of people on the left that I encountered who were fine with dealing with 4 years of Trump. There was a degree of complacency and I'll go ahead and outright state it, massive amounts of white privilege in thinking "Trump can't hurt me over four years, so I'm not going to bother voting for Hilary as I don't like her". Minorities and others saw the threat from Trump easily, but he was carried over the line with largely white majorities over Hillary. It's endlessly frustrating to see all this "But how could Trump and the radicalization of the right happen?!" when it was allowed to happen by a combination of complacency and a misguided belief that elections did not have consequences if you were the right skin color.

When Trump refused to concede the election and basically bring the country to the point of an insurrection, it felt like a fitting capstone people I argued with on facebook who were like "Trump won't be that bad" or were like "American can deal with Trump for four years, as long as the Democrats learn their lesson!" and so on. Right now I'm watching the media do the same incoherent stupid bullshit they did with Trump. The number of articles I've read that boil down to: "This moron from the GOP who encouraged sedition says that the country needs unity and so on, why are the democrats still trying to divide us so much with trying to bring consequences for January 6th?". It's infuriating. No, tell them their shit stinks and that this is still 100% on them and their fault. Trump is gone from office, but his influence over the morons in the GOP isn't and if you don't want a repeat of this in 2024, start showing consequences now.

The regular MAGA hat moron who attacked the capitol on the 6th is realizing that there can be consequences. The problem is they are just the foot soldiers and if you want to prevent this in future, it's the leaders who need to face the music for their rhetoric and actions. Something that the US has been terrible at repeatedly.

Especially with Facebook the GOP has created a closed information loop. That's the real danger.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

My fear at this point is that Green and her ilk are the new normal for the right wing. Meaning if the pendulum swings back far enough in their favor we might be in serious trouble.

    "I see everything twice!"
