Not sure if this is talking about F2P games with random loot, or roguelikes. I've been playing a lot of Binding of Isaac, and the difference between a run that gives you good items and a run that gives you garbage is just painful. You can win a run with bad drops, but when you get good ones it's just... trivially easy compared to trying to whittle down a bosses health with your baseline damage or one or two upgrades at most.
