Can someone explain pony farming to me? Can I just grind a given Extreme Primal until the horn drops?
Yes, one per primal, and once you have all of them go talk to the minstrel at the rising stones for the last one. Also there is one rare one that can drop from any primal but you don’t need that for the minstrel one.
this is all a lot of words to point out that emet is a racial supremacist
More ShB spoilers below.
Emet-Selch is the original imperialist. He believes in the supremacy of not only race but also culture, and that he is *helping* the people he is murdering by trying to uplift them to an acceptably civilized state. So calling him just a racial supremacist is being rather kind overall! This also shines through in the nations he created, both Allag and the Garleans are by the book imperial colonizers, using every atrocity in the playbook as they go along and spouting the same bullshit about civilization and order.
And the amazing part of Emet-Selch is that I can see why he thinks this way, even if I think he is horribly wrong.

Got our first Living Liquid clears last night, on our 235th pull overall for the first time, and managed another half dozen clears plus one clean Limit Cut clear on the last pull of the night. Not sure how that tracks against average pace but we're feeling good about finishing it before EW.
What were the majority of your LL wipes to before you started getting it?
We lost quite a few pulls to not properly accounting our second protean positioning to account for the boss frontal - I had the boss facing at the middle tornado for the second set of proteans. It was okay, but it was making the margin on my cotank hitting one of the tornado baiters or being hit by the frontal REALLY tight - like, single-character-width tight. We ended up adjusting and flipping boss to face away from the tornados and it solved it immediately. We just forgot the boss did a frontal for about half a night.
Looking back it's probably split three ways between that, doll wipes (all related causes; incorrect player tethering, people being out of position and splashed by multiple dolls, or killing dolls too fast) and the rest being just healers & tanks getting comfortable with achieving more or less gcd-by-gcd consistency in our defensives.

I think I might have to take a break from pink as a theme after this one
Shadowbringers MSQ done. Now I'll sit here and have some feels for a bit.
There's a quest marker to the left of the steps in the middle of the ShB city. When you're ready, grab that quest, queue for the dungeon, and turn up the volume.

Positioning will quickly become second nature in that particular phase, it's very rigid and is never really any different from pull to pull, so once it's 'solved' that should be it, minus the weird one-offs. Doll wipes will still probably be a weird thing every now and again, stuff like crits adds some RNG as to exactly when the feeds should happen.
The hardest part about Ultimates overall is definitely their length, and the fact that eventually the time between getting to practice progression points will inevitably get further and further apart, just by nature of the pulls getting longer.

Yeah I'm expecting once we start progressing BJCC this will become apparent - how hard it is having to re-do Living Liquid every time.

Okay, I have a question which I think might be a really dumb question.
Is it possible to toggle on the slow, striding walk that your character often does during cutscenes? If you're not sure what I mean, I've recorded my favourite part of my favourite Heavensward cutscene (obviously massive Heavensward spoilers within the video) that shows off the animation.
It's not the same as the regular /walk that you can toggle on.
I think that you'll be very pleasantly surprised at how quickly Living Liquid in particular becomes second nature, to the point where eventually muscle memory will just take over at some point. You'll still have the weird, odd wipe, whether its due to dolls, or Hand of Pain, or whatever, or on Limit Cut, but it's such a choreographed phase that after enough clears you won't even need to think about it.
Have you ever been driving from work to home or whatever, and, like, zoned out for a second? Like you don't have a specific recollection of driving the whole way, but you got there safely anyway? That's Living Liquid when it's comfortable. There were pulls during progression where I had to take a moment to remember which protean wave we were on, because I literally zoned out for the past 30 seconds of the fight, yet all the movement and rotations were done impeccably.
If you're not going in blind, BJCC is probably the toughest phase though, in my opinion.

I just did a dungeon where I was wondering if my HP bar was glitching and never showing any damage, but no, it was just the scholar being awesome.
This Eos erasure.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Wondering what they're going to do with the fairy pals in Endwalker. The SCH didn't do like, half of their abilities that involve their pets that they currently have in the EW job action trailer

Seriously though, it's kind of funny missing out on various balance changes as a new player. It's unavoidable given the nature of the game, but it's amusing to hear the trials and tribulations of various classes as they rise and fall out of favor.
We helped a friend clear UWU, without having them do any research beforehand, and just yelling them through mechanics in voice chat. In total it took like...2 hours.
got the train running, had the Thancred fight with Kung fu master general, and went with Minfilia to see Minfilia. My thoughts about this expansion so far can pretty much be summed up by my character's face.
Everyone says it's so good, but so far I'm not seeing it. Another stupid unstoppable villain, and trudging around with Thancred the jerk and Minfilia the whiner. I think I'm meant to think that Thancred is this tragic figure, but it's all "tell don't show" so there is no connection. Urianger and the Ascian emperor so far have been good, but everything else just seems so pedestrian. And I hate hate hate fights where I have to play other characters from the story (using the pet hotbar no less). If the story wants a fight to run on rails, and the outcome is predetermined, just make it a cutscene. I realise I'm probably a bit burnt out from playing through the expansions one after another, it's a lot of content. Sorry to be a bit negative, just wanted to vent

Ran'jit was my least favorite part, and Thancred was probably my second least favorite, so yeah, I feel ya there. I liked the overall story and setting of Shadowbringers, though. I feel like it gets better as it goes, too, but I did like it all the way through (except those two things).
I liked the fights where they let you play as someone else though, that was fun!

That particular section is generally considered the weakest of the expansion.
That said, your reading on things in general feels a bit... shallow, which I imagine is partially driven by burnout and feeling like you need to get through it rather than appreciating what you're experiencing. Seems like a good time to take a break and go unlock some alliance raids or such.
Thancred is definitely a jerk. He's not supposed to be tragic, per say. It's one of those "put yourself in the shoes of a character experiencing something that no human being has ever experienced, but with familiar elements" things that fantasy/sci-fi can do. What does it mean to love someone who is and isn't the person you love? What does it mean to "die" when your personality still exists in a non-physical form? That's the weird shit it wants you to think about, not just "Thancred is tragic because his adopted sister is dead-ish."

He was just so unlikeable though, almost emotionally abusive at times iirc. I had no sympathy for him.

I'd really like to just stop at this point and take a break, but I also really want to enjoy the hype of participating in the next expansion from the start with everyone else, so I'm trying to get it done so I can have some time off before it starts. A bit of a catch 22.

You have... what, a month and a half or so? Enough that you don't exactly need to be rushing through everything, yeah? I guess it depends on how much playtime you have though.
