I looked down at my legs yesterday and I was surprised that there's actual muscle and definition there.
They're not tree trunks by any means but there's visible muscle there.
Time to get some shorter shorts?
3 inch shorts with an American flag pattern, featuring a majestic bald eagle soaring proudly across your ass.
The paddling team I'm on is American Dragons Singapore and apart from general red/white/blue themes in our team clothing I also do own a pair of American flag patterned booty poppin' swim trunks for races
I think they are very funny
But now I wish they had a bald eagle on the ass

Do remember as well that the like, wildly defined washboard abs are not usually a natural state and most physique-based athletes or actors will actually dehydrate to a degree to have their abs show
Well I've hesitated several times to post something like this, but it seems to be the current conversation, so the spoiler below contains an image of me trying to flex (wearing my 3" shorts but you can't see my fabulous legs ). I'm not sure I could say I've had body issues, but I've always been conscious of how skinny and ill-defined I was, so showing my bare chest was not something I was ever comfortable with.
Now I'm 8 days from my first marathon, I started small weights when the pandemic started in my basement, and I actually feel really good about my body. I'm stronger than I've ever been which is not saying much. I don't have much bulk in the chest or shoulders, but I can start my lawnmower more easily or lift a sheet of plywood without feeling too embarrassed.
Also, before the picture, I'm trying to flex hard, and this particular lighting is helpful for contrast, but I also just had a full breakfast and a lot of water, so I feel pretty okay about it!
Now for the marathon! I'll report back once I wake up from that.
On a similar note I went back to my project last night. Went on Tuesday but got snowed off, last night the conditions were excellent, cool and dry, bit of wind, beautiful evening.
After a bit of mental psyching myself up, I focused on just working one move at a time, rather than thinking about the problem as a whole. So like, do the (hard, sat down) start move, then focus on getting my hand up, foot up, hand up, match, bump etc. And doing that gave me two moves' progress, so right now I'd say I've got the crux move and then a couple of easier moves and the top out to go.
Felt like definite improvement. My skin is absolutely fucked and I ache all over, but a focused session has really led to improvement, and I feel much more confident. I can do this problem and I will!
That's uh way more muscular than I am. I've been on a skinny kid that got "fat" and is now working on getting strong journey.
I know we all have our individual hangups and body concerns but I know I'd be excited to reach the point your at. And regardless of where you started I'm glad you hit a point where you wanted us to see!
You're looking real strong @Icemopper ! And as someone that has body issues, as I imagine a lot of us in this thread do, it's super impressive and appreciated you posting that picture!
Genetics plays a big part in it, but for me the thing that sends the strongest “that guy is fit” signal isn’t abs, it’s shoulder/waist/hips ratios.
Icemopper, you look like you have darn impressive shoulder/waist and waist/hips ratios.
I've been playing the "use big shoulders and a wide back and big traps to make your waist look smaller" game for a while and it's working out ok but for sure the easiest way to look "bigger" is to work on your shoulders and traps. I'm not all that worried about having defined abs because I know what I'd have to do diet wise to make that happen and no thanks!

Ten pounds less than in December. So at least I'm not gaining weight.
I need to restrict my calories at least a little tough until I can start actually exercising. I've been out of commission for a few days since playing a bit of beat saber and pistol whip early this week. Just sore and tired.
Thanks to all for the confidence boost and compliments. I've certainly had my ups and downs, often mental too, but complimenting myself or self-congratulations has never been easy for me.
Who knows what comes next, but certainly after the marathon I'm turning my damn alarm off for a week.
I've had full abs for most of my life and I never did anything too particular to have them besides be active. Although I do wonder if what you do as a child/teenager impacts how your muscles develop, because I started swimming when I was 9 and began lifting weights not long after and that went all the way until I was 18, so I was always really fit and strong.

I have to assume it's part of it, along with genetics. I was always overweight and just got heavier as time went on. Now in my late 30s after having lost so much weight I cannot shake the remaining fat at my belly and sides, despite how lean and toned everything else has gotten.

Yea where the body keeps its weight is largely genetic. Also the core is the last place to go skinny I imagine as it helps insulate your organs. Everyone is different though when it comes to those last few percent.
Fat cells grow to a point, but after that they divide and multiply into new fat cells. Once that happens, you've got a permanent new additional fat cell baseline that can be depleted as cells die off, but you can't healthily depend on cell death to reverse the process. When you lose fat, you empty those cells without killing them, and each cell you've got is another mouth telling your body to feed it. It's harder to keep 10000 cells empty vs 1000 cells - maybe not 10x harder, but there is a significant difference. And when you fill 10% of those 10000 cells, you end up with more volume than 10% of the 1000 cells. So it's harder to appear lean if you have more fat cells in inconvenient places.
Tldr the basic units of your body composition - cells - play a substantial part in your lean appearance, your fat appearance, and how easy or hard it is to maintain each state.

There's a problem at my gym I been working on and I'm so close to getting the crux and everything else after that looks really doable. I was just there last night, and I'll go back on Saturday but I'm like "Well, I'm not doing anything tonight..."
So I been taking progress pictures of myself since late January as a way to track my body changes other than the scale and try to be more comfortable with my body image.
So I'm following Icemopper lead and in an effort to push myself with my body issues posting them.
I'm glad too. Week to week it's easy to be critical of what I see as flaws, but laid out like this I'm really happy in the noticeable changes!
Also thanks to everyone in this thread being so encouraging/non judgmental about stuff which makes it easier sharing these pictures.

I know right
Time spent eating, sleeping, working, sitting on one's arse etc is all valuable projecting time
That said it is also schedules to fucking hack it down this weekend and if there's one downside to outdoor climbing it's the weather dependency
See, @Kyougu that is incredible inspiration. I just don't have progress pics because it has gone from me being skinny to me being more defined. That is just such amazing and hard effort evident in those pics!

Kyougu, tell me to piss off, but I have a question, as a man with a fairly large midsection myself right now, how has it been dealing with the weight loss and extra skin? It looks like your body is healing up nicely from the photos, but If I can ever actually manage to get fit again, its a problem I'm going to have to deal with myself.

I finally was able to snag a copy of Ring Fit adventure and amazingly enough I can do it, and that strap fits around my thigh. I do need to wear cotton shorts and not slippery synthetics though, It kept slipping down.

While I'm not Kyougu, I did lose 130 pounds off a large midsection myself, and loose skin was one of the things that I worried about a lot while losing it. From everything that I've read, the two biggest factors in avoiding lose skin are are just "did you win the genetic lottery?" and "are you relatively young?" There is some evidence that keeping well hydrated can help, some studies suggest ensuring adequate magnesium in the diet can help, some studies suggest getting plenty of protein. There's also an element of "how quickly did you lose weight?" But it's mostly just are you young and lucky. In my case, I hydrated, ensured I was getting my RDI of magnesium, ate a lot of protein, went relatively slowly with my weight loss, got lucky, and my loose skin is mostly obvious only if I'm in a plank or pushup position.

Yea I'd say you are decidedly shredded.

Edit: yea icemopper looks pretty cut and adding only a small amount of muscle with that body fat % would make you look shredded.
Annoying is what it is. But hey ho
And I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting a definite Guy Pearce vibe there fwiw.
