While waiting for Amazon to deliver my new Saucony Ride 13s, I happened to wander into a sporting goods store, and found Ride 13s that cost $30 less. I had been planning on getting a different brand for my second pair of running shoes, but I wasn’t going to pass up a cheap pair of my preferred shoe. Especially since it was their last pair in my size in stock.
After wearing them around the house today, I went for a run. I was feeling a little crummy today. Stress at work, and the effects of having a 200g bag of chips and far more salt than I’m used to these days had me feeling off.
Anyhow, new personal best for 10k (51:40), mile (7:12) and 1k (4:21). The personal bests for the mile and 1k were set after the 8km mark in my run, when I was like “OK. This is going surprisingly well. What else do I got?”
I kind of have a goal to run a sub-20 5k, but the thought of running faster than that PB 1k and then doing it four more times in a row is a little intimidating. But hey, at this time last year, I had trouble walking an hour long 5k, so there’s hope.

Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
My goal is a 20 min 5K too, and as someone that is not a sprinter, it's going to be rough. I think it's doable for sure but right now my PR is 21:58 and that took everything I had, so it seems daunting.
As for skin loss, yeah as others mentioned, I learned that there's not much that can be done about it on purpose. I lost weight over time and I think having a good strenght routine has really helped this time around, but I still have some.
I confuse it with fat sometimes, looking at myself and thinking that I don't look as fit as I should be. Like my scale says 11.7% body fat, which even knowing is a guesstimate at best I don't believe when I look at myself in the mirror, but that's because of the extra skin.
This is basically my physique in a nutshell, broad up top and little love handles at the bottom. Also please forgive whatever is happening with that golf club, it was my second time at a driving range and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
On my very last swing I hit that car out there so I felt ok about it, all things considered.

I have a lower belly/hip region then a sharp inward turn to the waist, and then an upper belly, and then bust. There's a good almost 8" difference between my waist and my hips circumference.
But the upper Belly seems to be actually getting smaller, so that's really very reassuring.
I've discovered the difference between me in shape and me out of shape is in one case my wetsuit fits and looks good, and in the other my wetsuit ... technically fits
Somehow this is more dispiriting than not being able to button my good jeans.
Managed three levels of vr games before my legs hurt to bad to keep at it
Changed my heart rate minute after before really resting and it was like 110. So decent exercise even if I only managed like 8 minutes or so. I should really use my smart watch though so I can see my heart rate through the whole thing afterwards.
My feet are oddly the part that hurts the worst though. Used to be just my calves would ache bad standing for a bit but now my feet hurt like they are trying to split apart. Maybe if I put my shoes on for some support that'd help.

In my experience with vr exercise, shoes can definitely make it more comfortable
I don’t always bother to put them on now, but I probably should

Meanwhile my calorie tracking may have just switched directions. I just started a new medication for adhd and they list one of the side effects as “decreased appetite” (the same sheet also says it can be prescribed as a treatment for binge eating, so I think that’s just an “effect”, not a side one)
Yesterday was my first day on it and while it didn’t make me food-averse or anything, I did have to remind myself to eat
So I've basically gained back everything I lost and a pound or two extra since I hurt myself.
It's discouraging but not surprising considering my diet basically has been beer and garbage for the last month. I'm having a harder time straightening out though, this go round. I dunno if it's the injury throwing off my rhythm or residual depression from having all my progress slammed to a stop or both.
Just ran a little over 2.5 miles and went even slower than last time unfortunately. Considering it's only the second time I've ran that distance in well over a month I'm not too upset I guess. Did some lunges up a couple of flights of steps on my way back up to the apartment to try and loosen my hips up.
Does that happen to anybody else when they run and does it eventually go away? Any time I try to run longish distances or over consecutive days my hips start to stiffen and get a little achey. It's part of the reason I don't run all that often.

I broke my 40 some day streak of no sugar pop last night.
I have been really struggling this past week or so and feeling miserable and just wanted to cheer up a little bit.
The worst thing isn't that it magically didn't taste good anymore, it tasted amazing still. It's that it didn't make me feel better.
This is extremely corny, but remember this isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. A stumble here or there won't change things.
It took me a long time to realize that I was making habits that I couldn't give up in a week or so but had to carry on long term. I still sometimes forget honestly.
That you went 40 days is fucking fantastic and you know you can do it. You will also hopefully learn that you can stumble, you can sometimes give in to temptation (we're only humans) but that it won't throw you off.

Honestly, 40 days is a pretty good streak; just do your best not to repeat the indulgence for a while and you're fine!
It's actually one of the reasons that some weightlifting diets encourage either a week off every 8-12 weeks, or a regular free-choice meal once/every other week, because it helps to encourage longer-term adherence to a diet if you don't feel like it's some kind of penitent punishment or whatnot

I think that pretty much every sane view on eating habits says it’s perfectly OK to have a treat every now and then, and is in fact encouraged. It’s perfectly fine to enjoy stuff in moderation. One day of indulgence isn’t what causes nutritional plans to fail, and one indulgence certainly doesn’t do it either. It’s the overall magnitude and frequency of indulgence that matters. One Dr. Pepper in forty days is pretty low magnitude and frequency!
On a different note, I ran my best 5k since August 14 last year, in 24:21. Last year I had a 24:12, so I have a few seconds left to shave off there. Man, it’s nice having new shoes.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
My fastest 5k was just above 22:10 and it was the most effort I've put into running so far, including the marathon training. From the first k to the last I was putting my everything in that run and I was completely wasted at the end.
It helped me realize that speed is not something I'm personally interested in chasing, that the thing I enjoy about running is just being out there. I do like seeing my overall pace and ability improve, but that kind of all-out effort isn't something I'll readily do again.
I went out for 5/6k this morning and ended up doing 10! Wasn't quite the plan but I was (mostly) feeling good so just looped around a little extra. First 10k since October.
I am shocked that I am actually able to bike to and from work. I have not biked since ~2012? And done...basically no cardio but walks and hikes since. So I fully expected ~5miles each way to kick my butt despite it being mostly pretty flat bike paths, but it's not too bad! I'm not super fast or anything, but the only real trouble I've had is the parts of my 'nethers that are no longer used to a bike seat. So that's great to add ~1hr total of cardio a day to a previous total of...nothing. Hell maybe I'll make it to 35.

Could you get some bike shorts to wear while riding? Could always take them off at work.
Today is my birthday, and at 38 years old I'm at the best shape I have ever been in my life. It's not just the numbers in the scale either, I'm stronger and faster and more fit than I ever thought I could be. Yesterday I went clothes shopping with a friend (been updating my closet) and tried skinny jeans on for the first time. They're not for me, but they didn't look bad on me or anything, just not my style. It was still a nice experience to try different clothing and feel comfortable in my own body.
So yeah, It's never too late to make whatever changes you think you need to make.
I got a new watch band for my watch because the large one it came with was cutting into my ham wrist.
This one is much more comfortable. It's leather though so it was kinda expensive. But the only one I could easily find online that went up to like 9 inches. (My wrist is like 8.75 right now)
Hopefully eventually I can move back to the smaller band though. For one it is plastic so more appropriate for exercising with anyway.
Decided to take a long lunch and go out on my bike with a nice picnic. I have a new handlebar bag/mount that I made a couple weeks ago that needed testing anyway.
Of course after being lovely sun all morning the moment I put my bike kit on it clouded over. Got out to the resevoir and it wasn't really warm enough but I resolutely ate my picnic anyway. With my waterproof jackets and gloves on. Quickly.
The moment my rubbish hit the bottom of the bin? Yeah, you guessed it. Sun came out.
Still that's another 27 miles onto the tally and the bag & mount worked fine. Saves me buying a bag actually designed for that mounting system when I had enough odds and sods around to cobble something together.

Anyone have any tips on how to keep a home treadmill from sliding backwards while running?
I wish I could stand up longer so I could get my heart rate to go up just a little more and keep it there for a bit.
But almost 15 minutes in vr stuff is an improvement on 11 I did last time.
I'm still gonna be sore and tired this afternoon and tomorrow too again I can tell.
I'm gonna go mix a protein shake. Maybe that'll help my legs recover faster.
I'm also surprised how the ducking that beat saber makes you do doesn't hurt my knees so bad at the moment. I guess I haven't been putting them under much stress lately though so that'll probably change.
The harder game is honestly trying the first level of pistol whip on normal difficulty. Dodging feels like it needs to too be a little more flexible than I currently am. Matrix style. Need to get back to doing yoga.

Yeah this is absolutely on the table, I'm just lazy. And right now I THINK the main pain point is literally just the seat bumping and bruising me, not things rubbing. I just gotta toughen up and learn to float and ride lighter again. I like Sheldon Brown's article on picking a bike seat citing bike shops all seeing a big rush on bike seat sales at the start of every season, because people think that is going to fix their "new" bum pain, but all it really is is some tender booties from not being in the saddle all winter. That combined with being a little less in shape leading to more weight being put on the seat rather than balanced with the arms and legs. If you want to sit, you get a recumbent and you go FAST as a bonus, otherwise riding is just more full body than it seems.

Sheldon's page is a great resource I used a lot when I started commuting. The butt pain will go away eventually, but it's a good idea to get professional fitting if you can to make sure your butt is at the right height.
I only live a mile from work now and I really miss my 12 miles of daily commute by bike. It was such a wonderful way to start the work day and wind down at the end.

Did jump squats again this morning, finishing out the last set it felt like my soul tried to rip itself out of my body. I'm sure my neighbors heard it's attempted escape in my pained counting off.
Haven't been on the bike in weeks, all the gains I've made are gone. I just can't find the motivation to go on the bike. When it's time for me to go on I almost have a panic attack.
Don't know what's wrong.
Doesn't help that my toddler has been sleeping terribly recently and I'm always exhausted.
